I have! I was really surprised by the dress codes and formal nights, but I loved the ship and room service. That was in 2016 though and seems like things have changed! :-)
We will be taking our first this spring. We have done Holland America, Celebrity and Disney. Our favorites was Holland America because it had a more traditional classic ship feel and was a little more refined. I have a feeling we will like Cunard for this reason.
I’ve learned so much from you two about Cunard and other lines - Thank you! For me, we’ve done Crossings (first in 2008 and most recent June 2023) on QM2 and cruises on QE, I’d say that while the dress code has been relaxed through the years, the vibe is still more formal than other lines or land resorts and most passengers purposefully go onboard to dress up. I’d recommend to try to dress a bit above the minimum so you don’t feel a tad out of place. Wearing a blazer wouldn’t hurt. But you’re right, very relaxed and fun environment in general. Tons of live music day and night is impressive and you didn’t even touch on the daily Insight lectures which are top shelf. You’ll never be bored, even without roller coasters etc. And yes, the cocktails are first rate.
I really enjoyed your down to earth review of the QE. I worked 2 contracts on loan from Princess Cruises on the QM2 and it was a very special experience for me. I was the Chief Purser. As a Canadian, it meant a lot to me because Sam Cunard was a British Canadian who lived in Halifax. Being of English heritage I very much loved the tradition, pomp, ceremony, and royalty of a British ship. Coming from and back to an American based cruise line I could very much see the difference. In North America, Cunard doesn't get much play because it only has 4 ships while Princess, Norwegian, Royal, Carnival etc. each have 4 or 5 times that number. The QM2 does a lot of transatlantic service which doesn't appeal to a lot of people because there are no port stops along the way. Cunard remains a hiden gem but not to me. BTW, I have been to Wetherspoons and the Canada Club. Jolly good!
Thank you Cunard for changing your ways. We sailed on QM2 in 2004. We booked a balcony stateroom in Britannia class & upgraded to Queen's Grill. Tuxedos & gowns required every night in the Queen's Grill dining room, along with upscale dress at breakfast & lunch. The staff was amazing but the guests were demanding and rude. But, watching your great video, you have convinced us to definitely cruise again with Cunard. It truly is an amazing line and so happy to see that Cunard has conformed to the times. Thank you for clarifying perception & reality.
Oh we met some people from Queens Grill who were watching the entertainment and they were dressed similar to us smart casual. Not sure about the rules now in Queens Grill couldn't afford that lol! 🤣
Thank you for a very informed video account. Glad to see Cunard is still as good as ever. We have thoroughly enjoyed every moment on Cunard. There is so much to do you don't have enough time to get round to everything even on the longer cruises. We have not sailed since Covid but looking forward to getting back soon. The only criticism I have which I do not understand is why they have to charge for internet connection in this day and age. Their connection charges are expensive. We cannot get our late teenage children to join us in a cruise for this reason. Myself and my wife, however, can live without the internet. We only use it on board when we have to. Thanks once again for the wonderful discussion.
I've taken three Cunard cruises and loved every one. I enjoy the occasional dress-up evenings, it's part of the fun and variety, but most of the time, casual dress is fine. I always think of the drinks prices as London hotel prices which, when you think about it, makes sense since you're essentially staying in a luxury hotel while you're on board. I've never been bored, even for an instant, between the classes and lectures, and musical shows, and films, and dance spots, there's not enough time to fit everything in. There are quiet spots, too, if you need a bit of down time. I can't recommend it enough.
We cruised on Queen Victoria for our second cruise. Met the ship in Venice and it sight to behold. We have done many since but we will always have a soft spot for Cunard. They are not at all snobby
So excited to see you guys on a QM2!! My first Cunard cruise was very ermm, relaxing (I was the latest person up at about 10pm) so it'll be interesting to see how things have changed, sounds like they have! :-)
Such a good video! Thank you for posting it. We've just completed a Cunard cruise on the Queen Elizabeth (pre-Xmas - maybe you were there) and have booked two more on Cunard. We have had many others in the past. Our big thing is ballroom and Latin dancing - it is such a treat to be able to dance every night in a real ballroom. And - you are right - it doesn't matter whether you are accomplished or a beginner - we love to see people dancing, whatever their ability. We also really really enjoy dressing up for the gala nights, but also enjoy dressing quite formally on other nights. Again, for us that is a treat, not a chore. Are we snobby? No. Just a bit old-fashioned and like the elegance and how civilised it all feels. We're taking our grandchildren on a P&O cruise next year - I'm not sure that that Cunard is great for young kids. There are facilities for them but it could get a bit boring for children. Don't know if others would agree. Anyway - thanks again for such a well-presented and relevant video.
We were on in September and the cruise before Christmas so sure we would of been on board the same time! We loved watching all the fabulous dancers so were probably watching you lol! Not sure Cunard would be great for kids though like you say there is kids facilities on board!
I am so glad I came across your vlog. We love everything about Cunard and have a brilliant time on board. We haven't been on the Queen Elizabeth as yet but we are booked on her for the Panama cruise in July 22 and can't wait. I will look forward to watching more of your vlogs all about the Cunard ships.
Cunard really has its own understated style but history of the company & a mix of modern cruising has been installed well . Many happy memories workin on QE2 , QM2 etc
Excellent review as usual I am pleased you have highlighted that Cunard are really great to sail with & there are certain standards not necessarily found on other cruise lines. The entertainment & enrichment programmes are generally of a much higher standard. Fellow passengers are generally great people. We have met so many great & interesting people some of whom we are still in touch with today. Their flag ship QM2 is absolutely stunning & the range of activities & venues on board are amazing but we felt we partied far too much & we need to pace ourselves a bit more next time. We could have done with a holiday to get over it. Price wise it is swings & roundabouts but the standards of comfort are great. The food is of a very high standard. I buy the coffee package for $10 a day & certainly get my monies worth out of that! The staff are phenomenal friendly & nothing is too much trouble. We have four more booked this year plus The Centenary World Cruise in 2023 which should be amazing. Hope to meet you on board one day!
Have a wonderful trance-Atlantic cruise, Paul & Carole. I saw a quick look at you both dress to the 9s. I had QE’s mini in Nov ‘19 and wish to sail on Mary & Victoria in future if they do minis. As I’m originally from Japan and have lived in London half my life, I pack 1 of 10 kimono from my late relatives I shipped (no pun intended) instead of a ballgown I’ve never had, on every cruise only to eat at the buffet. There were a dance hostess and a few hosts in pre-covid time in Queen’s Room and were all welcoming even though I couldn’t move in my not formal but over-covered attire. I pretended I showed our traditional dance I’d never learned and won a notebook with a Cunard’s logo. I also danced my Lucy and enjoyed the afternoon tea there. June
I cruised on the queen Mary 2 3 years ago and I have to say it's the best service and food I have ever had and I have been on 14 cruises with different companies. Thanks for the video guys very informative 👍
Fantastic review. Thank you. We did our first ever cruise last year on Cunard. 32 nights! Loved it. I would add to the many attractions the variety of lectures, activities (hubby and I did watercolour classes), cooking demonstrations, bring your own hobby (many pleasant needleworkers) games, etc. Maybe not best for the waterslide and go-cart crowd, but great for us.
Thanks for the informative Vlog as always guys! We've cruised on Queen Victoria and loved the ship, loved the crew, but have to say that the element that spoiled our cruise and led to us vowing to NEVER cruise Cunard again was an element of the passenger list. I'm old school (tend to hold a door open and generally show courtesy and manners), and some of the looks I got from ungrateful people and the lack of manners (not so much as a thank you) put us off for life. I don't think it was anything we were doing as we LOVED our time on board Ventura the year before with P&O. Keep up the great work guys!
That’s a shame. We found the passenger behaviour on Ventura appalling. I was actually bowled over on there by one passenger with not so much as a sorry! Another passenger started a fight with me when I said a seat at our table was in use, but empty as my husband had gone to get the children some drinks! I was so embarrassed and other passengers didn’t get involved until after she’d gone and then said she was awful.
So sad to hear that you experienced such bad mannered people on board but I have to say, that can't be the fault of the cruise line. Just rude people. Hope you're next cruise is more a pleasant one and just remember, you are the better person being so polite and friendly. Happy cruising x
It's an Amerianism... that holding the door open and waiting for a thank you. You think other countries are rude but I see no need to thank you for not letting a door slam in my face. This very basic "courtesy" is expected by everyone and does not need to be acknowledged... unless you are American and get angry over it snarling, "Where's my thank you!" Puts me off Americans.
We started many years ago with Cunard and did our first 7 or 8 cruises with them and enjoyed them very much. We enjoyed dressing up once or twice a cruise and didn't mind it at all. We only started with other lines because they were undergoing vessel changes and they didn't fit our schedule. The drinks prices you showed were not bad at all, we just got off the Oceania Riviera and I had a drinks package and my wife did not and her drinks were usually between $11 and $14 plus the 20% gratuity so very comparable. We are not averse at all to going with Cunard again although I would probably stick with a suit and tie as opposed to a tux again. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks Lou good to know. Interesting that you could have the drinks package and your wife did not. On all our previous cruises if we wanted to buy the drinks package it had to be bought by both of us in the same cabin.
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel I should clarify that we both started with the basic drinks package which is beer and wine with lunch and dinner. I upgraded mine to the Prestige level which was basically anything any time. They do let you do that individually.
Thanks for your observations, you’re clearly having a wonderful time 👍. That Art Deco style ballroom looks so nostalgic. You’ve convinced us to give them a try, been humming and haring over Cunard for too long. Happy 2022 cruising. 🙏
Thanks guys, your lovely presentation made me smile. We had our first cruise on the Queen Elizabeth and loved every second. We are sailing on the Queen Victoria next week. Who doesn't love a bit of dressing up. xx
Again you gave excellent info about Cunard experience isn’t stuffy, class difference not what you might expect. And so much is open to mostly everyone. Affordable and dress code is not so restrictive as perceived by many people. Thanks again.
I can't wait to raise a glass of Thatcher's Gold to Paul aboard QM2 in August! Never had it but I looked it up and I think I'll love it. My introduction to cider was Strongbow on a fabulous trip to London 15 years ago. At that time, cider was unheard of in the US. I saw on another video that you tried Angry Orchard - I think it's rather sweet but we have so much available now in the US. If you are ever in Virginia or North Carolina, we would love to buy you a Bold Rock cider! Thank you for another great video!
Strongbow is ok but nothing beats thatchers gold for me. Glad you are enjoying our vlogs, would definitely meet you for a cider if we are ever in your neck of the woods.
I'm actually looking forward to dressing up! I never get to do that in "real life" because I pretty well just live my life in nurse scrubs. I am debating the drinks package as well. I've used it on American lines and found it a good value. Not a drunkard, but it's so easy to have 6-7 (or 8 or 9) in the course of a full sea day. Will likely do it.
I have cruised twice with Cunard on Queen Elizabeth and loved it. Like you we had a balcony cabin which was great. The second cruise was to be from Southampton to Australia in 2017 but unfortunately my husband got ill and we had to leave the ship in Guatemala but Cunard were very helpful with this. I hope to cruise with them again, loved the themed nights especially the "roaring twenties" night. Thanks for the vlog.
We went 14 nights on QE . Loved the themed gala nights. I also took casual jackets that i felt comfortable in. We bought the drinks package . It was dear but cheaper than buying per day. Coffees , softdrinks, mixers, wines, beers, it all adds up. Package was the way to go. We loved it. We went with Imagine Cruises.
We have been on QM2 transatlantic and loved it. We are now booked on the Queen Victoria for Med cruise and looking forward to it. BUT your pricing is optimistic. We have budgetted for 2 predinner drinks and a bottle of comparitively inexpensive wine each night ( £40 per person /night inc 15% service charge) plus compulsary tips and this brings the cost per PERSON per night to just under £200. So your costing is a little out. Do due diligence, be prepared for hidden costs and service/tips and then enjoy.
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel we thought it may be too long...we have done over 30 cunard trips and the November Caribbean is the best by far..NY twice and the Caribbean all in one trip.
I agree with you over prices and atmosphere . I have moved two P&O cruises I had booked to mini cruises and rebooked with Cunard as they are offering better value and itineraries. Having tried Queen Mary 2 I am hooked. The service is second to none. Sailing again in Feb on Queen Mary 2 and can’t wait.
Sadly it’s only a four night cruise but it’s all the leave I had left from work until April. Still really looking forward to it. Trying an inside cabin too for the first time so that will be interesting.
Yes 4 nights to Hamburg. Trying to find out what the gala themes are. I am sure when my daughter’s have sailed they have known which themes the gala nights were in advance . All I can find out is that there are two even on a 4 night cruise and what the possible choices are. I suppose I will take something for each . I have had black and white and 20 ‘s before. Never had the red/ black Cunard theme.
I was once on a spectacular Cunard tour in Europe for about 3 weeks & then returned home on the QE2 in 1981. It was absolutely fantastic & I can’t believe I haven’t returned for another voyage. I did try only once a cruise on Royal Caribbean which is a cruise not a voyage like on the QE2. A cruise on those behemoth ships are nothing like the elegance of the Cunard Queens voyages. IMO.
I was so amused when we travelled in 2015 to see so many vintage dresses being worn in the evening. There were a lot of elderly that were wearing dresses from the 70s. I'm amazed they had kept them from so long ago.
Nice one Rose n Jack 😂 we are due to do a Cunard QE sometime (it’s booked just don’t know when we are sailing on her) and you have made it all a bit easier to do. Tell you what though, there’ll be a couple of bottles brought on to ease the pain of the drinks 😝
I absolutely love Queen Elizabeth and I hope I'll be able to cruise on her again. Some of your commentors may not know that Cunard also does "anytime dining" as well as the two set times. I enjoyed your review very much.
On Cunard, many of those paid evening restaurants have free lunch menus, so you can taste the quality without adding to your cost, at least that was what was happening in 2018. The Corinthian Lounge was our favourite place to sit and have a light, very tasty lunch.
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Oh, that is too bad, it was actually in 2016, so maybe things have changed in 5 plus years. We have cruised Cunard twice (a transatlantic in a very stormy November was our introduction to cruising - absolutely loved it) and did not find them overly expensive either, but we seldom cruise in the peak times, and I am always on the look out for the best fares.
Thank you for your thorough review of the Cunard Line. My husband and I are considering our first cruise with them. I also enjoyed your personalities. I am wondering what has changed in the past couple of years?
Thanks for the great review and hopefully it will help dispel some myths about Cunard. I haven’t been on Cunard since 2010 and I’m kinda sad that perhaps the dress code has changed. Black & White nights used to be formal and it was a delight to join the ladies in evening dress and the men looking smart in a tux or black suit. It’s funny how young adults love their formal nights at school and yet some older adults complain about formal nights on cruises and think it’s snobby or stuffy. Over the years we have cruised with Cunard We have met lots of lovely folks just like yourselves.
On our cruise 90% of passengers still dressed formally, we just wanted to show people that it isn't as strict as some people think. We lived seeing the majority in the Queens Room in their finery, it is still very special!
We've just complete a little 4 nighter on QM2. Loved virtually everything about the ship. It lived up to our expectations and beyond. We stayed in cabin 4014 (an outside). The cabin area was very large because the space where the balcony would be is in effect included in your cabin space, so very chuffed over that. The only down side was the beds in this outside were positioned facing the entrance and the Aircon blew the air at considerable force down the cabin when in bed directly onto your face. There was no way to avoid it unfortunately. We got off the ship and immediately contracted covid, skeptical me is convinced it was due to the virus pumping 24/7 thru the aircon at full blast. (But thats just me being a grumpy old f*rt) 😮 We will definately use Cunard again no question but i think if the Aircon set up is the same in other cabins we'll abandon our plans to go transatlantic on her, it was the coldest draughtiest cabin we've ever had, we either boiled or froze. All around the ship is was very chilly in fact and a lot of people mentioned it. I note Queen Victoria has the aircon outlet set centrally in the ceiling which i much prefer for even ventilation. So that's how we got on, i can't emphasize enough how great the other 99% of the experience was, it was quality from start to finish. Thanks for your reviews which guided us to take the plunge, it was worth every single penny. Thanks guys and keep on cruising. Vik x x
Glad you overall had a great time! Understand your irritations with the air con, we have never experienced that but obviously an issue with that cabin. Thanks for your feedback 😁
Hi great vlog. At the end of the day, a ship is a luxury floating hotel with food included, same if you booked a hotel on land But, with a cruise your guaranteed entertainment, excellent food and service all day, every day, your taken to different destinations, drinks are always separate, unless you want a drinks package.. Whether in hotel or ship. Cruises in my opinion offer the best of everything. Good value.
Went San Francisco - Sydney on the Queen Elizabeth in '18 because Cunard had the best itinerary. Lucky us! We thoroughly enjoyed Cunard and praised it during the trip. Not stuffy at all, but posh. Loved the food and enrichment.
Great vlog guys really useful, we have been on Queen Victoria a few years ago and they seem to have made it a bit more relaxed than before, we will have to give it another go.
Hi Carole & Paul, Excellent review of your cruise on Queen Elizabeth, looking forward to next video, keeping us going through the winter dreaming of when we are back cruising, 😀
Thank you Paul and Carole. We’re going on the QE soon and were concerned about the formal dress for the Gala nights. Hubby did not want to take his kilt and all the attire etc with him either. Glad a fancy tie for him will be sufficient. I’m presuming they tell you in advance what the Gala Night themes are before you go.
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel It’s 14 days Southampton to Southampton going to the Canaries. We chose it because we’re not ready to fly yet. Did you find any restrictions due to Covid? I believe Spa and gym have been closed.
Everything was open on our cruise, hopefully just temporary measures. On a 14 night cruise they sometimes also have Roaring 20's were some wore feather boas snd flapper type dresses and suits and also Masquarade where some just hold the mask to their face at times. We found a little black dress with coloured accessories, and Paul in a suit with different coloured ties was fine. Just think, black, white, red and gold clothes and accessories and all is covered!
The dress codes have changed a bit I went on the QM2 a few years ago and it was much more strict jeans were ok up till eight o’clock and then they were not allowed and if you were not in formal dress you were only allowed in the buffet and one of the bars . Glad to see they have relaxed the dress codes a lot I was traveling with my four year boy on my own at the time so didn’t like having to dress up because we were in our cabin for the night at around 7.30 to 8.00.
Very informative video, our perceptions were exactly like yours about Cunard. Have seen many deals on Cunard and always thought too posh, perhaps time to think again and give it a go 🙂
Thank you very much for this. There aren't many up to date videos on the QE. I am going on this mid-Jan to go to Portugal and Spain and have been thinking about the drinks packages. So your info is invaluable. It will be our first cruise with Cunard. We are actually looking forward to the dressing up.
Thankyou for a very informative vlog, Cunard does look elegant and proper old style cruising, I did just have a sneaky look at some prices to compare with some prices we have paid on various lines, And you know what? Cunard came in cheaper than a Fred Olsen cruise we did to Norway once.! True we were in a top suite, But on Fred you eat the same as anyone else , No separate dining rooms etc, So, Its true Cunard are accessible to a lot more people than we thought.😃
I have done two cruises as a solo traveller. I do urge you to give it a try. The only problem for me is the price (one for the price of two) but apart from that people are very friendly, if you encourage it, but would leave you alone if you prefer. There are times when I wish I could be sharing the experience with another person, but if it is a choice of staying home or going solo, I know which I prefer!
Understand it can be frustrating price wise. For now we will continue to travel together, now sure Paul would be happy if I said by the way I am cruising next week, see you when I get back! 🤣
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Oh if I had a cruise mad friend like me I would jump at the chance, but I dont have one. My sons are too old to go on holiday with their mother! Wish I had a daughter!
A big thank you. A no frills, concise opinion on your trip. My husband and I are NYC to Londoning in May 2023. The black tie for my husband has been an issue, but now I think we are clear on what to pack. Cheers.
Thank you for sharing information about Cunard. I have booked a cruise trip to Alaska in this Summer with Cunard. This will be my first time on Cunard. I just learned from you that there is Red and Gold night on board. I have a question regarding to Red and Gold night because I do not have cloths with these two colors. Did you see any one wore different color was allowed to enter in that evening?
You can wear any colour you like and there was a variety of colours, some just in their black and white as the other Gala Night. They just recommend Red and Gold but it is not compulsory. Alaska that is exciting! 😀
Thank you for sharing as we are going from NYC to Southampton: I wondered about balcony or inside cabin. Did you use your balcony much on your transatlantic cruise?
We have not been on the transatlantic cruise yet it is next August. We have booked an inside cabin for that as wasn't sure if we would use the balcony much and there was such a price difference. Will be interesting to see if we made the right choice!
Thinking of doing the QM2 with my elderly mum in law but only been with Saga before, the getting to Southampton with all our cases is worrying me & also can you fit the cases under the beds ? 😬
I did a QM2 transatlantic in 2019, we "HAD TO" wear a dinner jacket EVERY evening. I was even told to put my jacket back on, when I took it off at one of the bars after dinner. Hearing yr story, seems things have changed.
Oh really that wasn't our experience on Queen Elizabeth, even on the programme it said jacket and tie optional for smart attire night. Will be interesting to see what our experience is like as we are in the QM2 in a couple of weeks!
Hi Guys, thank you for sharing, let me tell you that all the reason to research your chosen Ship, are covered by your vlog, there is 1 concern l like to strike off and is to do with our room location, we are booked on the room opposite to your featured one, yes opposite side! With this been under the lido i have grown worried about noise coming from up above. What would you say? We are spending 43 nights on board, love to ear , thanks Roberto and Laura
Oh wow 43 nights we would love that! When we were on our balcony we could hear music from the Lido which didn't bother us in fact it was nice. We didn't hear any sun loungers be moved etc as these were placed more centrally on the deck. We wouldn't have any concerns staying in here again or for longer periods so would presume that would be the same on the other side.
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel , thanks, that makes me more at ease, we are off to Vancouver via P Canal and Alaska, with all ports of call in between. We have started piling Excursions on the wish list, I guess some that are sold out we can try with locals via Tripadvisor. thanks again
I just stumbled upon your lovely vlogs here and i must say I LOVE YOU GUYS! It'd be so fun to bump into you sometime on a cruise! Such a fun and down to earth couple. Thank you kindly for all the great tips as I'd never considered cunard AT ALL and now i'm really keen to check them out!
Thank you for this video. I have put forth similar comments having sailed on all three "Queen's" multiple times. I hope you have the opportunity of doing a crossing on Queen Mary 2.
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel April 14. 10 days; Fort Lauderdale-NYC-Southampton. With 5 days in Bath before flying home. 20 year wedding anniversary, and first ever trip to the UK.
You are charged per day, some passengers do go to reception and ask them to be removed, then give cash tips to those that they have personal service from.
Thank you for this informative video. 👍🏼 I’d love to sail with Cunard after watching the special on Queen Elizabeth. She’s such a regal ship. Someday, maybe. ⚓️🌴
Hi Carole and Paul. I have just discovered your vlog and am enjoying your cruising adventures. The print in your cabin, of the four ladies in 1930s attire, (complete with race hats), caught my eye. I would love to buy a copy if possible, but the prints may have been commissioned exclusively by Cunard. By any chance do you recall the name of the artist? I would be most grateful if you could advise me. Many thanks in advance. Take care: Tony - Sydney, Australia.
Hi Tony, Thanks for finding us. Not sure about the artist and have even tried to zoom in and see but can't see any writing. Maybe see if you could contact Cunard directly?
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Hey there guys. Thanks so much for trying. We hope to cruise with Cunard in the near future and may just inquire. Happy cruising.
Ahhh so glad we found this, thanks for posting. We're looking at booking and the formality is our worry, dressing up isn't our favourite part of cruising and we've only done the more casual Marella / Royal carribean/ MSC. Are jeans and fairly casual clothing fine during the day please?
I'd read there wasn't a limit on bottles taken on board. Do you know whether that is wrong please? And do you know whether you could do a spirits bottle rather than wine/champagne please? Sorry for the questions!
Just watched your vlog and found it very reassuring,I am booked on queen Elizabeth for February to go to New Zealand and Australia ,and have been worried sick about dress code so it’s good to know we don’t have to dress up every evening. One thing I would like ask is about gratuities are they expensive?
You used to be able to check your booking, however on our last cruise it wasn't there. Not sure if that was a blip or not! We always take a collection of coloured bow ties and I always go for black/white, red or gold theme dresses so majority covered. The roaring 20's is the difficult one though then we have a couple of little masks and tend to stick to black and white!
Hi just found your channel and it's fantastic. I've booked for 25th November, just a mini cruise. Do you think those Christmas trees will be in the ballroom? They look amazing. Also, I don't drink alcohol, are tea coffee and soft drinks free throughout the day or would I buy a drinks package? Thanks so much xx
Thanks for finding us! Hopefully by then they should have the decorations up by then. You can always get soft drinks and teas and coffees from the buffet restaurant so you shouldn't need the drinks package. You can always suss it out and buy it on board if you wanted.
If you want a more formal type cruise would pick Cunard. Drinks are more expensive on Cunard so depends if you like a drink or not. Iona is a beautiful ship lots of outside space, cheaper drinks. If you want new glitzy ship then Iona if you prefer older classic then Cunard. Either are a good choice. Are they a similar price?
Hi Tim, We haven't cruised with Celebrity for a long time, hope to again this year though. However we have lots of information about Anthem of the Seas on our Royal Caribbean page here which will be helpful paulandcarolelovetotravel.com/tag/royal-caribbean-cruises/
I was tempted to put dislike as I don't want to encourage people to find this fabulous cruise line 🤣 I love Cunard and as you say, when comparing prices it is very competitive. I actually love the gala nights as it is a good excuse to dress up, but again not compulsory as there is the Lido or the oub if you don't want to change out of your day wear. I love the Lido as it's a great way to meet all sorts of new and interesting people. Loved you two, you bounce off each other so well. I shall look out for you on my next Cunard cruise x
Lol thanks Anne glad you didn't! 🤣 It is fabulous seeing everyone dressed up but good to know there are other options too. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks so much for watching! 😍
hi paul & carol. i have a repositioning on the qm2 in dec 24, do they send you the theme dress info before the trip so you can know what to pack? & do they have dress shops you buy pieces of your outfit at? thanks.
Yes you will find the theme nights on your calendar when you log in to your Cunard account, and they do sell a small selection of accessories in the shop and have a masquerade mask sale too. 😀
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel tbh it wasn’t as good as the Southampton NYC crossings…. mainly due to the world cruise clique who change the ambience of the ship making it less upbeat. However all the stop offs were fabulous. On arrival in Sydney catch the train to Perth as an option but book well ahead.
Does Cunard send out an email or any other type of correspondence as to your upcoming cruise and what themes the gala nights will be in order that passengers will be prepared?
I went on queen Elizabeth, loved the ship and was really enjoying it till people complained when my son had a t-shirt on walking to the cafe bit at the back off the ship (can't remember what it was called). Apart from that loved the cruise
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel I just think the people might off been having a bad day. As I said apart from that we loved it, especially dressing up for the 1950's theme
I did a 17 night on Queen Elizabeth. It wasn’t for me. Dinner at the same time every night with people who were not on the same wave length. The culture of them and us ie Queens Grill passengers against this who weren’t Queens Grill. I am going once again on Viking in July and totally different culture.
Going on Queen mary 2 in June to Norway first cruise on cunard so can't wait how do you get dollars do you get them on board as well as how do you pay for WiFi is it per cabin or per item thanks for reply
Everything is charged in dollars to your account so no need to take any unless you were visiting USA and getting off the ship. We have a video all about the WiFi coming out next week.
Have you cruised with Cunard? What did you think?
I have! I was really surprised by the dress codes and formal nights, but I loved the ship and room service. That was in 2016 though and seems like things have changed! :-)
@@EmmaCruises Cunard is a class act and a unique British experience that we loved. It is still formal but not every night like we thought it would be!
We will be taking our first this spring. We have done Holland America, Celebrity and Disney. Our favorites was Holland America because it had a more traditional classic ship feel and was a little more refined. I have a feeling we will like Cunard for this reason.
I am on the point to book my first cruise with Cunard.
We loved our time on board, try it! 😍
That's great to hear! Agree we love to dress up.on Cunard and most people like to too! 😀
Jolly good!
Oh really! Great to have had that experience. We love a Cunard cruise!
Exactly our experience on Queen Victoria in 2019 Kathy!
Oh we met some people from Queens Grill who were watching the entertainment and they were dressed similar to us smart casual. Not sure about the rules now in Queens Grill couldn't afford that lol! 🤣
Not every night now only on Gala nights.
Thanks for your lovely comment! Totally agree about the WiFi infact we have a video coming out on Wednesday all about it!
You have explained it perfectly, it is luxury hotel prices which is exactly as it is! We can't wait to get back on board!
We cruised on Queen Victoria for our second cruise. Met the ship in Venice and it sight to behold. We have done many since but we will always have a soft spot for Cunard. They are not at all snobby
We are hoping to get a cruise on Queen Victoria this year. Think they are becoming one of our favourites too!
So excited to see you guys on a QM2!! My first Cunard cruise was very ermm, relaxing (I was the latest person up at about 10pm) so it'll be interesting to see how things have changed, sounds like they have! :-)
Unless Queen Elizabeth is the Cunard party ship and QM2 and QV are very different LOL! We will soon see. Look forward to catching up! 😍
Thanks so much! Sure you will have a fabulous time in July. Our Cunard vlogs series starts this Sunday!
Cunard really has its own understated style but history of the company & a mix of modern cruising has been installed well . Many happy memories workin on QE2 , QM2 etc
It certainly does! Sure that was a fabulous experience.
Agree Cunard are something else! Oh wow the World Cruise that will be amazing! Hope our paths cross one day!
June
Oh that's lovely! 😍
I cruised on the queen Mary 2 3 years ago and I have to say it's the best service and food I have ever had and I have been on 14 cruises with different companies. Thanks for the video guys very informative 👍
We had some of the best food and service too. Cunard are class and we can't wait to cruise with then again! 😍
Thanks so much! Oh yes all the insight talks and crafts, so many to mention!
Oh that is a shame, we didn't experience that any more than we have on any other line. Thanks for watching!
Oh dear....how embarrassing!
Oh thanks Lou!
Thanks for your observations, you’re clearly having a wonderful time 👍. That Art Deco style ballroom looks so nostalgic. You’ve convinced us to give them a try, been humming and haring over Cunard for too long. Happy 2022 cruising. 🙏
Thanks! Do try then we are so glad we did! 😍
Thanks guys, your lovely presentation made me smile. We had our first cruise on the Queen Elizabeth and loved every second. We are sailing on the Queen Victoria next week. Who doesn't love a bit of dressing up. xx
Your welcome! Have a great cruise!
Again you gave excellent info about Cunard experience isn’t stuffy, class difference not what you might expect. And so much is open to mostly everyone. Affordable and dress code is not so restrictive as perceived by many people. Thanks again.
Cunard is a great experience and like you say not as stuffy as people think it is!
Oh the Christmas decorations look beautiful and that ball room! 😍
It is a beautiful ship and with the decorations very special!
Also we did do a 4night years ago on QM2, great time ,and as you say Big Band sound fantastic 👍
That is just magical and not like anything we had experienced on any other line!
I love the opportunity to dress up. We don't get to do it often anymore. When I was young we always dressed for dinner.
It is rare these days to do it so definitely a treat!
I love your easy going “light touch” delivery. My favourite cruising channel by far …. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much, we really appreciate that! Glad, you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
We enjoy it too on Cunard as mist people make the effort. The Queens Room with everyone dancing in their formal wear is pretty special!
Oh sorry to hear that bit good to see Cunard took great care of you!
Love Cunard, in fact can't see me cruising with any other line. The formality is precisely why I love it 👍
Cunard definitely do formality very well!
The Gala nights are fab,no other cruise line does them like Cunard! The drinks package does work for some. We love the QE great ship!
This video is two and a half years old so the pricing was correct at the time but we appreciate your comments.
Thanks for the video, we are doing the Caribbean trip in November.
We did it once before and was the best cruise ever.
Oh we definitely need to get it booked!
Sailing again in Feb on Queen
Mary 2 and can’t wait.
Oh wow can see why. We are on QM2 in February too and so looking forward to it!
Sadly it’s only a four night cruise but it’s all the leave I had left from work until April. Still really looking forward to it. Trying an inside cabin too for the first time so that will be interesting.
Think we must be on the same one as you as ours is only for 4 nights too 11th Feb?
Yes 4 nights to Hamburg. Trying to find out what the gala themes are. I am sure when my daughter’s have sailed they have known which themes the gala nights were in advance . All I can find out is that there are two even on a 4 night cruise and what the possible choices are. I suppose I will take something for each . I have had black and white and 20 ‘s before. Never had the red/ black Cunard theme.
You should get the information re Gala nights before. We only had one on our 4 night QE cruise which was the black and white night.
IMO.
Cunard are unique! 😃
I was so amused when we travelled in 2015 to see so many vintage dresses being worn in the evening. There were a lot of elderly that were wearing dresses from the 70s. I'm amazed they had kept them from so long ago.
Lol yes, we loved seeing what everyone was wearing!
Lol definitely pack some! See the other comment here you may be able to get away with more than a couple! 😀
I absolutely love Queen Elizabeth and I hope I'll be able to cruise on her again. Some of your commentors may not know that Cunard also does "anytime dining" as well as the two set times. I enjoyed your review very much.
That's great to hear you enjoyed it!
On Cunard, many of those paid evening restaurants have free lunch menus, so you can taste the quality without adding to your cost, at least that was what was happening in 2018. The Corinthian Lounge was our favourite place to sit and have a light, very tasty lunch.
Oh really. We only seen the Verandha lunch menu and they were charging I think about $25 for that.
We hope to do a transatlantic this year. There are some great Cunard deals to be had!
Thank you for your thorough review of the Cunard Line. My husband and I are considering our first cruise with them. I also enjoyed your personalities. I am wondering what has changed in the past couple of years?
Thanks! Not a lot we are just about to go on our 8th Cunard Cruise on their new ship Queen Anne!
(But thats just me being a grumpy old f*rt) 😮
We will definately use Cunard again no question but i think if the Aircon set up is the same in other cabins we'll abandon our plans to go transatlantic on her, it was the coldest draughtiest cabin we've ever had, we either boiled or froze.
Good value.
Exactly thats why we love cruising too!
Went San Francisco - Sydney on the Queen Elizabeth in '18 because Cunard had the best itinerary. Lucky us! We thoroughly enjoyed Cunard and praised it during the trip. Not stuffy at all, but posh. Loved the food and enrichment.
That is a fabulous itinerary! Cunard are fabulous, can't wait to get back on board!
Great vlog guys really useful, we have been on Queen Victoria a few years ago and they seem to have made it a bit more relaxed than before, we will have to give it another go.
Certainly the case on Queen Elizabeth. We have just booked a short cruise on QM2 so will be interesting to see the differences!
my 1st cunard cruises in november 2024.thanks for the videos.some great pointers and ideas.
You are welcome!
Hi Carole & Paul,
Excellent review of your cruise on Queen Elizabeth, looking forward to next video, keeping us going through the winter dreaming of when we are back cruising, 😀
Thanks Jane glad you enjoyed it. Lots more Cunard videos coming next week! 😀
Hi Diane, Yes they will let you know. Glad we have helped. How long is your cruise?
Oh wow that wasn't the case on Queen Elizabeth. We have booked QM2 for next month so will be interesting to see if there are any differences!
I love Cunard ,all ages , nice people mixing and dancing 💃 everything fab ❤
Agree it is fab! 😍
You all are the BEST!! LOVE how you canter back and forth!! Thank you!! Would LOVE to run into the two of you on Cunard!!
Thank you Belinda! Great to hear you liked it. We have a few Cunard Cruises planned so looking forward to those!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel I will be on one from NYC to Southampton the first week of May. So excited!!
Oh not long that is exciting!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel yes!!!
Very informative video, our perceptions were exactly like yours about Cunard. Have seen many deals on Cunard and always thought too posh, perhaps time to think again and give it a go 🙂
Exactly why we did this video as it was so much more fun than we thought it was going to be!
Thank you very much for this. There aren't many up to date videos on the QE. I am going on this mid-Jan to go to Portugal and Spain and have been thinking about the drinks packages. So your info is invaluable. It will be our first cruise with Cunard. We are actually looking forward to the dressing up.
Thanks for your comment and really glad you have found it helpful. We have a QE WiFi video and vlog coming out this week too!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel That's great. I need to know about the WIFI, as well. Looking forward to it.
Thankyou for a very informative vlog, Cunard does look elegant and proper old style cruising, I did just have a sneaky look at some prices to compare with some prices we have paid on various lines,
And you know what? Cunard came in cheaper than a Fred Olsen cruise we did to Norway once.! True we were in a top suite, But on Fred you eat the same as anyone else , No separate dining rooms
etc, So, Its true Cunard are accessible to a lot more people than we thought.😃
Thanks Janice. Exactly that, we were so surprised when we first checked!
I love these vlogs. You are lovely people. Thank you both. I am put off cruising as I am a solo traveller.
Thank you! 😀
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Would not like to see that you are a wonderful double act.
A big thank you. A no frills, concise opinion on your trip. My husband and I are NYC to Londoning in May 2023. The black tie for my husband has been an issue, but now I think we are clear on what to pack. Cheers.
Glad to hear it was helpful!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Thank you.
You can fit the cases under the bed, we can’t really comment on the getting to Southampton, maybe hire a private car?
Good to know, thx. Yes I always have thought of them as stuffy. Thx for the laughs.
Your welcome! 😀
I did a QM2 transatlantic in 2019, we
"HAD TO" wear a dinner jacket EVERY evening.
Oh sounds a fantastic itinerary enjoy!
Thanks so much for finding us! So glad you have enjoyed our videos! 😍
Thank you for this video. I have put forth similar comments having sailed on all three "Queen's" multiple times. I hope you have the opportunity of doing a crossing on Queen Mary 2.
Thanks Robert. We are booked for next August! Looking forward to seeing the Queen Anne itineraries too! 😀
This was very helpful for our first Cunard cruise on the QM2. Thank you.
Your very welcome. We have just booked a short cruise on QM2 next month. When is your cruise?
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel April 14. 10 days; Fort Lauderdale-NYC-Southampton. With 5 days in Bath before flying home. 20 year wedding anniversary, and first ever trip to the UK.
Great information. We will look again at Cunard. Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching! 😀
Very helpful vid, how does tipping work on the QE? Looking to book a cruise soon
You are charged per day, some passengers do go to reception and ask them to be removed, then give cash tips to those that they have personal service from.
Hi - can you purchase the drinks package per day or do you have to purchase for the whole duration is the cruise?
You have until the second day to decide!
What about during the day? We are looking to be on a cruise for 22 days to Caribbean/Usa
Check our our vlogs for what you can do during the day 😀
@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel can you point me to a link blog of yours on what to do during the daytime on the Cunard Queen Elizabeth please? Thanks
Yes of course ua-cam.com/video/HhJ2Ros9BfY/v-deo.htmlsi=QwC-_YomCDGxKLur
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel thanks.
Thank you for this informative video. 👍🏼 I’d love to sail with Cunard after watching the special on Queen Elizabeth. She’s such a regal ship. Someday, maybe. ⚓️🌴
Thanks! She is a stunning ship!
No problem if we do find out anything we will let you know!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Many thanks.
Charming and brilliant! Going on my first Cunard Transatlantic in 2 weeks!🚢🌹🚢
Thank you! Oh fabulous enjoy!
How was your trip? 😊
Another great and informative vlog from you guys . Looks a beautiful ship even from the snippets you have shown.
Thank you. It is a stunning ship. Hoping to get a ship tour and Christmas blog post out in the future too!
Great video very interesting and informative thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching! 😀
Thanks for finding us! Yes in the day anything goes!
I ❤ the posh style!
We do to!!
Just watched your vlog and found it very reassuring,I am booked on queen Elizabeth for February to go to New Zealand and Australia ,and have been worried sick about dress code so it’s good to know we don’t have to dress up every evening. One thing I would like ask is about gratuities are they expensive?
Glad you have found them useful! They were $11.50 per person per day if you are in a Britannia Cabin. $13.50 if you are suite guests.
Couldn’t find a full review of the ship ,where will I find it please ? Thanks for info on gratuities
You can find it here paulandcarolelovetotravel.com/cunard-queen-elizabeth-review/
Can you find out ahead of time what the theme of the gala nights are going to be on your cruise so you can be prepared with the right clothing?
You used to be able to check your booking, however on our last cruise it wasn't there. Not sure if that was a blip or not! We always take a collection of coloured bow ties and I always go for black/white, red or gold theme dresses so majority covered. The roaring 20's is the difficult one though then we have a couple of little masks and tend to stick to black and white!
What l didn’t say is that l like to know what is like to be in or around room 8161 on deck 8👍
We were very happy with the location and very easy to get out to the aft!
I enjoyed your review. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for watching! 😃
Some great information there. Thanks
Your welcome. Thanks for watching!
Hey guys, I need to book my next cruise. Who would you choose? iona or Cunard. I am going for my 50th
Oh difficult, what itinerary are they, which Cunard Ship and what are the most important things for you when you cruise?
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel The Med on Iona, or the med on Cunard
If you want a more formal type cruise would pick Cunard. Drinks are more expensive on Cunard so depends if you like a drink or not. Iona is a beautiful ship lots of outside space, cheaper drinks. If you want new glitzy ship then Iona if you prefer older classic then Cunard. Either are a good choice. Are they a similar price?
hi guys we are going on celebrity beyond in may and anthem of the seas in October what can we expect
Hi Tim, We haven't cruised with Celebrity for a long time, hope to again this year though. However we have lots of information about Anthem of the Seas on our Royal Caribbean page here which will be helpful paulandcarolelovetotravel.com/tag/royal-caribbean-cruises/
The two of you should host a Cruise!!
Thanks.....May do one day! 😃
Loved all this information…… just learning about cruises thanks for being so honest it really helps.
No problem, thanks so much for watching!
hi paul & carol. i have a repositioning on the qm2 in dec 24, do they send you the theme dress info before the trip so you can know what to pack? & do they have dress shops you buy pieces of your outfit at? thanks.
Yes you will find the theme nights on your calendar when you log in to your Cunard account, and they do sell a small selection of accessories in the shop and have a masquerade mask sale too. 😀
We loved QM2 to NY and back also from Singapore to Sydney …. fabulous!
Oh fabulous! Would love to do the Singapore Sydney leg too!
Yes they do! 😃
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Thank you.
I just asked that question - glad I'm not the only one who was curious! And I'm glad that they do let you know ahead of time.
I went on queen Elizabeth, loved the ship and was really enjoying it till people complained when my son had a t-shirt on walking to the cafe bit at the back off the ship (can't remember what it was called). Apart from that loved the cruise
Oh really that's a shame, that's the Lido where wearing a t shirt should be no problem!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel I just think the people might off been having a bad day. As I said apart from that we loved it, especially dressing up for the 1950's theme
Love your posts, as well as being very informative, they make me smile!
Oh thanks so much! 😀
Awww you two made us smile. You've definitely changed our minds on this
That's great to hear!
Luv the review great stuff . Knew you would enjoy Cunard
Thanks Noel, we really did and will be hopefully back on board by the end of 2022!
Hi,just came across your video a year later 😊
Have you travelled on the Queen Victoria, do you know if it's the same as QE.
Lol glad you found it! They are very similar, just a couple of lounges have different layout and names. We would happily cruise on both! 😍
HOW IS CUNARD FOR SOLO TRAVELERS?
Good we know quite a few who enjoy cruising solo with Cunard!
I did a 17 night on Queen Elizabeth. It wasn’t for me. Dinner at the same time every night with people who were not on the same wave length. The culture of them and us ie Queens Grill passengers against this who weren’t Queens Grill. I am going once again on Viking in July and totally different culture.
Understand that. We always like to dine alone so didn't experience that and must admit everyone we met outside of the dining room was OK.
Liked and subscribed!
😊
Thanks so much!
@@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel thanks for that
Your welcome, any other questions then please do ask!
Really helpful, thank you.
Your very welcome!
So helpful! You two are a hoot! 🤪🥰🎉
Aww thank you! 😊
How about T shirt with a tuxedo picture printed
Lol...no! 🤣🤣
