- Gorekore is a very old traditional Zimbabwean Mbira song.
In this song we are saying, "listen muKorekore, go and ask your father and mother about your tribe, to learn how it all started. Ask your father's totem, and his tribe. Ask your mother's totem and her tribe. Its important for you to know these things, and you will pass the knowledge to your children and they will pass it to further generations.
In the song it says, "the mother has given birth to a special child, and the child is a Gorekore. The parable is that even if the parents are not interested in their culture and tribe, it is important that they can share knowledge with their child.
Even if it doesnt seem important to you, one of your children or grandchildren will want to know about their culture and use it in their life, They may want to follow culture through prayers, dancing, music or healing and other activities. So its important for you to learn whilst parents and elders are alive, so you can help others who are interested.
