Hi! about (traditional) intonation in Cajun music: The diatonic one-row Cajunaccordion is not tuned tempered like a pianoaccordion. It is tuned true, because the notes 1,3,5 are on push, the rest 2,4,6,7 is on draw, so no note on push can ever sound together with one of draw. Therefore for example the thirds can be flattened (about 15 cents), as you would play them on the fiddle. As Michael said, many old time fiddlers didn´t care much about intonation, but on new recordings, you will have that bright and brillant sound of true intonation. So finaly you can say, the Cajunaccordion helps the fiddlers to play true, so it is not that bad to play together with a Cajunaccordion ;- )). Thanks for all your wonderfull videos!
Hi Jorg. Interesting perspective! I usually use this topic as an opportunity to insult accordion players. I wasn't aware that the cajun accordion is untempered.
Perfect timing! I had just watched the 1989 film “J’ai ete au bal (I went to the dance)” on the Kanopy streaming service (free, available with public library membership).
I watched Michael Doucet with Beausoleil playing when then visited Salt Lake City, it seems like a lifetime ago. People were dancing in the aisles and the ushers kept having to get them to settle down. I remember Michael singing out something about people wanting to dance. It was very enjoyable.
Fantastic interview, I remember seeing them in Cleveland Ohio when they passed through our area of the country. It really was like a Grateful Dead concert!
Fantastic interview! I have been studying his fiddle style for many years and this interview gave information on things I’ve never heard him discuss. Love it!
Really interesting interview Chris! I was lucky enough to catch Michael playing with Roddie Romero and others in Lafayette last year. It was a wonderful gig. Great to hear his insights.
Hi, Chris just finished watching your interview with Mickael Doucet. Verry nice stories, I'm quite familiar with the history of the Acadians shipped to Louisiana I had lived in Nova Scotia for 38 years and as the Beausoliel there's a number of the Beausoleil on my mother's side. Is there a chance of having a lesson on the Cajun Fiddle? I'm not very good at playing by ear but I'm ok reading notes. I was looking for an advanced version and can't find it anywhere. Is there a way you can help Thanks Don
Really glad to hear the Opry called out as significant to Cajun music; my father used to like hearing Jimmy C. Newman. Aaaah-EEEEEE!
Thanks, so interesting 🎻🙂

Michael does teach on line. I just bought his lessons on Homespun Tapes. They are wonderful and easier to learn with.
Hi Frank. I deliberately gave him the chance to plug his teaching, but he didn't jump at it!
This is a fascinating piece of history! Many thanks for posting it.
Thanks Warren!
