Almost 52, never played an instrument, and I am having a BLAST with my two week old Kala and your videos. You are to ukulele what Adriene is to yoga (iykyk). Making my daughter (fresh home from Boot Camp) sing-along with me. I am so grateful to you for sharing your awesome talent and phenomenally positive spirit! Thank you for this precious gift 🙏.
What a sweet comment to read, you totally made my day! Adriene is simply the best - she was partial inspiration for me as I started my channel, what a huge compliment! I love that you're playing music with your daughter, that is so wonderful. For me - that's what it's all about, playing music with other humans. Thank you for your good vibes!! ❤️✌
I just came across your channel yesterday for the first time, and I love the fact that you teach the ukulele part but as well as the singing and the rhythm. Not many ukulele teachers do that. You are very unique in this. It is very useful since we need that package to perform. THANK YOU 😊
Hey thank you so much Christine! I really appreciate your comment. It makes my videos longer, but I think it's so worth including that information. If you truly want to learn the song, knowing how to count it is so important. And as a vocal teacher, I love supporting my students in how to always feel confident finding their starting pitch. So happy you found me here - and happy to support your ukulele journey! Cheers. 😊🎵
@UkuleleWineTime it is absolutely worth the extra time to learn some...behind the scenes(?) type of stuff like the counting and changing keys and all that. It really is so helpful knowing some of the why rather than just the how. Thank you so much!
Stand By Me" When the night has come And the land is dark And the moon is the only light we'll see No, I won't be afraid Oh, I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand Stand by me So darlin', darlin' Stand by me, oh, stand by me Oh, stand, stand by me Stand by me If the sky that we look upon Should tumble and fall Or the mountain should crumble to the sea I won't cry, I won't cry No, I won't shed a tear Just as long as you stand Stand by me And darlin', darlin' Stand by me, oh, stand by me Oh, stand now, stand by me Stand by me Darlin', darlin' Stand by me, oh, stand by me Oh, stand now, stand by me Stand by me Whenever you're in trouble Won't you stand by me? Oh, stand by me Won't you stand now? Oh, stand, stand by me
I bought my ukulele two weeks Ago and I really wanted to play this song. U are such a good teacher that I got to play and It was not bad at all! The strumming part is kinda difficult the DDUDU, but choose the Second one and I loved the results. Thanks for the video! I am 40 years old and I have always dreamt of playing a musical instrument! Greetings from Brazil ❤
really great, love the way you offer different options. i am in my seventies and just starting to learn how to play the ukulele. Had basic guitar lessons as a teenager but i couldn't progress. I am not musical but love trying. thank you, you are wonderful.
Kathryn, this is one of the finest videos I’ve seen on ukulele instruction for “Stand By Me. “ I am a beginner, and your explanation was quite clear. I’m still getting used to understanding chord transposition, but you’ve explained it nicely. I’ll probably have to listen to it several times to understand it. Again, thank you so much for this video, and I look forward to seeing future programs.
Hi William, thank you for your kind message! It's so great to hear that you enjoyed this video - Stand By Me is a fantastic first song to learn. The transposition is extra - that will come in time, if you're interested in learning it! I have a Ukulele for Beginners course coming out soon that I am VERY excited about. If you'd like more info you can check it out here - ukulelewinetime.com/waitlist Cheers! -Kathryn
Hi! In the key of G, the first melody note would be a B, on the word "When." You can find this note in your G chord, on the 2nd fret of the A string. Most likely you will have to sing it down an octave from there. "When the" is the notes B to D. You can find the D by playing the 2nd fret of the C string- it's also built into your G chord! Let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
Hi, just came across your channel for the first time, really enjoyed the lesson, very clear and informative, love the way you screw your nose up when singing, wine is an added bonus too. Best wishes from Wales, UK
This video was like a gift for me i just got an old ukulele at an estate sale and got it tuned No wine but i am camping . Totally changed my knowledge of music structure in this one video greatful to your wisdom anyways one of the best songs ever and i will able to say i know song front to back now. . Anyways your voice was great you are great at teaching as well. Keep it going
Hi John, your message was also like a gift! So happy to hear this. (Wine is not necessary at all!!) A bit of music theory knowledge can really open up your whole perspective - I think it's very empowering. I appreciate your message - thanks for sharing! (Also - camping + ukulele is an awesome combo.)
I just stumbled onto your channel an hour ago. I think I may have just found my new ukulele teacher. Keep the lessons comming. I just hit the subscribe button. Transposing to a new key was perfect for me. Thank you!
Kory, that is awesome!! So glad you found me here, and that my style of teaching resonates with you. Thank you so much for subscribing! And yes - being able to transpose to a new key either for ease of playing/chord shapes or to fit your vocal range is a very powerful tool.
I didn't understand at all the keys and the logic to change in others keys. No idea what you are talking about a lesson on that only would be very helpful, starting with the very beginning of what a key is. How do we know in which key our voice is.Thanks a lot!
Ahhh yes, great question. Keys can be a tricky concept to grasp - I would absolutely love to do a video on this soon! I ALWAYS love talking music theory. Keep the questions coming- thank you Christine! And to briefly answer your question - there would be many keys that would suit your voice; a different way to ask it would be- what is my vocal range? Different songs have a different range of notes depending on the specific melody of that song. I will definitely include your question when I make this video - and hopefully it will all make more sense!
One more thing - I often change songs to easier keys to play on the ukulele. For example - the key of C major (or, chords that are in the key of C) are very friendly to play on the ukulele. But a different key, for example the key of Eb major ("E flat") or the key of B major are more challenging on the ukulele. This could be one reason to change the key! Another reason is vocal range - for a song to fit your voice better. Hope this helps!
Oh no! My channel isn't for kids - it's called Ukulele Wine Time! When you set up a UA-cam channel you specify if it's for kids or not. Although I also have kids - so I can totally understand!! Tell him wine is only for grown ups! (I also am not drinking any more these days.....) My newer videos don't have wine in them so those will be safer. :)

Eastern! :)
I find the Key of C, Am, F, G is easier to play..
Jackie- awesome! The key of C is very friendly on the ukulele so it's great that that key works well for you. 😊
Your so sweet ❤
Hey thank you so much! What a kind thing to say 😊
