    Buying your soil mixture has turned out to be a good investment. I'm noticing that my traps are looking much healthier and standing much taller in the pots. Now I'm looking toward dormancy and winter here in Minnesota trying to plan a good way to keep from letting the cold kill off my wonderful collection. I've learned a lot from your series of videos!

    I agree that it’s not a great idea to use “play sand.” Not only is it typically not 100% silica, but it can clump up, and the “play sand” I’ve bought had a lot of dirt (e.g., silt, clay, organic matter, dust, and general filth) in with the sand. You can wash most of the dirt out of it if you have a LOT of time, but if you can get a cleaner sand (or comparable substance, like your pulverized glass), you’ll make your life easier.

    When I need dirt for my Saracenna and Venus fly traps I’ll but it from you cause I’ve followed you for a long time on a different device and the dirt is cheap!

    It looks great. I especially like that you rinse the gunk out of the substrate before you package it.
    But doesn’t it take approximately forever to run that much water through a Zero water filter pitcher?

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому

      Approximately, yes. It does. Lol. Not a fast process, but I like selling a quality product that's ready to use!!

    Great videos! I have a question, I just planted my VFT seeds last month. I just started seeing 2 growth. However my soil level is sinking. I guess I didn’t do a good job covering the holes on the bottom of the pot. How can I save the seedlings from further eroding soil? Just wait as long as possible before repotting?

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  Місяць тому

      I wouldn't worry about a little settling of the soil. It will sink a bit, but not a ton over time.

    Would Garnet be as effective as crushed glass ? 2 reasons I ask :
    1) at the abrasives supplier the garnet was nearly half the price
    2) here in Aus our crushed glass is mostly brown and dark green and not as pretty as what you are using

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  Місяць тому

      Yes, I think that would probably be fine! I explored garnet as an option actually. We have natural garnet where I love. I just didn't have a way tonextract it naturally in enough bulk that I needed. Garnet is inert, so if you could find the right grain size, should work fine. Just make sure it's not too fine.

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому +1

      You have to order these by the 100. Ypu can find them on agriculture websites. I'm actually going to start selling them in smaller quantities. Hopefully in the next few days!

    I am facing a problem.Some new leaves of my little Venus flytrap are growing but the traps on top of the leaves are not opening (creating) and after some days they turn into yellow and then black.What should I do😢?

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому +1

      Could be a number of things. Pests, over watering, under watering. Bad substrate, water with minerals. It would be hard to pinpoint what is specifically causing harm to the traps.

    Are you going to make soil substrates like for Nepenthes?

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому

      I'm not sure yet. Nepenthes do really well in straight long fiber sphagnum moss. So, I don't know if that's really necessary. I might make a slightly modification to it for my pings though.

  • @MikeAK44

    Do you grow pitchers? What substrate do you use?

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому +1

      I've actually used this mix in a pinch, it works! However, I try to use long fiber sphagnum moss for my nepenthes plants. I'm assuming that's what you are referring to when you say pitcher plant.

    • @MikeAK44
      @MikeAK44 2 місяці тому +1

      @@CarnivorousPlantsHub Yes! Do you now why they say to use long fibre for nepenthes? I havent really been able to find an explanation for the reason for the difference compared to other carnivorous plants. I ask because long fibre is much uglier and I find it develops a gooey substance after a few months.

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому

      The roots don't like sitting in moist substrate all the time. Which is why you don't tray water them, just top water. The long fiber sphagnum moss dries out much quicker than peat. If the peat is well drained ( my mix is) and you don't over water, it would do fine. But the long fiber moss is just more suited to nepenthes needs. It's option 1 while pest mix (that's well draining) would be like 1b.

    Can Venus fly trap eat dry meal worm?

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому

      I probably wouldn't do a dried mealworm. You can try though, if you feed it an already dead bug, watch this first. ua-cam.com/video/erVFS4FSHnU/v-deo.htmlsi=uH4bYQ0L9fisr5Rf

    I don’t think you need the glass. Never used it, no problems

    • @CarnivorousPlantsHub
      @CarnivorousPlantsHub  2 місяці тому +2

      It serves the same purpose as coarse sand. Makes for a much higher quality substrate. You can go just peat and perlite, bit it tends to clump up and get hard faster. The sand or glass in my case helps keep the substrate light and easy for roots to travel. Plus, the glass looks amazing!
