Everyone remembers him for Addicted to Love and the suits but the man was an itchy genius; changed bands and styles repeatedly in search of the perfect pop song...
Don't miss him in The Power Station (Some Like it Hot, Get it On (Bang a Gong) remake 1985). He was also Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor Doctor). This song was one of the first songs from MTV (1981).
I'm so used to the recorded version, where he sings it an octave lower, this one really surprised me when he jumped in. The way he adjusted those really high parts was cool too.
Wow! They just absolutely murdered that song! Robert’s haircut was timeless. He had the swag to pull off sleeveless new wave or his later suit and tie ultra suave look. Those pipes were golden, under control but urgent.
I love this song, then and still today. But I must say the tempo is on the serious 'coco' speed! That is tough! Those musicians are tight with his rich rich voice! So nice!
WOW!!! I've listened to all Robert's versions of this I could find on UA-cam but then... I found THIS! He is really on form here, the band is tight, you can tell they're enjoying it, it's the fastest version I've heard of this track too, (and it was already a fast tempo track). This feels so fresh, even in 2015. Oh, and hey: he's NOT wearing a suit!!! Most casual outfit I've seen him wearing actually. neXiumvideos : Thank you so much. This is an amazing find, excellent quality image - and you've even uploaded in HD too. :-) He'd be 31 in this video.
I can't get 'Sailin' Shoes/Julia/Sneakin' through the Alley' (Capitol Theatre 1979) out of my head- I'm addicted to it and I also love this song and particularly this version. He was an underrated musician because his later more attention-grabbing stuff- the women in mini skirts and high heels etc- is what most people remember him for. OK songs but his lesser known material is exceptional. I would never have thought he was a smoking hot R&B artist although he's always had a great voice. Gone way too early x.
You Brits...🤔. I hope you all thanked Robert Palmer for dwelling in your land and claiming Britain as his one time residence!!! That bro HAD IT!!! He set a different standard!
Ca S: Born in Batley, Yorkshire, and raised in Malta (his father was a naval officer); lived in Bermuda with his wife and kids; and spent sixteen years in Switzerland: ua-cam.com/video/F4a9l0CrG8g/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/-sdd4JDraRk/v-deo.html So, sadly, it sounds like he avoided England at all cost despite him being born there and enjoying the music scene with bands, as a teen.
I was a big Little Feat fan and Robert and the Feat worked together. I loved his albums but didn't realize until the UA-cam era that he was a great stage performer.
Sounds like three tracks are missing from the recording. Love it. Palmer's New Wave period was as tight as his Allen Toussaint period, his rock period, his Nat Cole period, and as I'm sure his blues period would have been.
@diver dave I am a drummer and in one band we played Rage against the Machine's Killing in the Name of'...but i started that song a little too fast and after we finished the song the singer had to take a 5 minute brake to catch his breath. I told them that halfway into the song i thought it might be a little to fast. NO DRUGS JUST FUN. LOL
Great, great, absolutely great. Top performance, top musician. This groove and the tight singing voice of Robert, great achievement. And the sung vocal phrasing compared to the original recording. Sung very confidently. The last chord, the following echo (the delay effect right at the end of the song) is even played manually (by hand) by the keyboardist. Pay attention ... Greetings from 🇩🇪
I have loved Robert Palmer since the early 80’s. I’ve recently been (unexpectedly) quite impressed with Harry Styles. I can see a similarity. Call me crazy but I’d like to see Harry do this song.

reminds me of David Byrne and Talking Heads a lot!!
@@BrianMaiden-o9c Except Robert can actually sing.
everytime i watch this ... a tee-shirt loses the sleeves

Damn his voice is really killer in this clip!
Epic.... such a talent
True that. A great performance here 👍
True that. Man he was putting so much into it from way deep down .
I'm so used to the recorded version, where he sings it an octave lower, this one really surprised me when he jumped in. The way he adjusted those really high parts was cool too.
Sounds so good

Ja stimmt, hier hieß das 'Neue Deutsche Welle' und die wars ja dann auch. Fantastisch, Applaus 👏
I scanned his bar code. It said "cool".
Fr ?
That's really appropriate.
Zz, Best comment. 👍✌
sorry, it doesn't :(
Ha ha ha ha !!!
I can't get enough of this. He really was amazing..and a cutie 💓
Wow…I think this might be my favorite version of this song…love Robert’s voice on this. Studio version is great but the energy here is tops
Wow ! That was insane. I never heard that song live very very good.
That Keyboard guy is Amazing WOW
Jack Waldman (1952-86), I think.

Oh, yeah, Mr. Palmer, you are missed...oh, yeah.
Robert ‘s voice was incredible! Well written song! Talented singer!
His lyrics were good, sometimes quite nihilistic!
Awesome clip, awesome song. RIP Robert Palmer, greatly missed.
"Do you have to make a fuss every time we fly?" Love that line.
He wouldn't say that to BA Baracus
@@thomasecallaghan1111 man - that gave me a great laugh.
Jesus, his voice was otherworldly
Very high quality definition for an old clip. Brilliant song.
It was my understanding that this the first ever song to use MIDI to synchronize all the synth work and drum machine...
@@davidevans1420
Not saying it wasn't, but I don't think MIDI was officially launched until about '83
Wow - that was brutal. What a voice! Such a loss!
Obscenely Good was Our Rob. ❤❤

Robert sure had something nobody else had 👍. R.I.P.
Class Act!
If that's genuinely a live performance, it's storming. The band really know what they're doing.
What an absolute work of art.
ALL live, no backing tracks...no sequencing...just humans
Just wanted to mention the same!!!🙃
@@TheDarkDutchman Thanx. Thought so. Just checking.

When artists had to sing for real...no dub.......
wow...his voice is AMAZING! Raw, fulla soul and electrifying!
Looked good too in my humble opinion! xx
+Twosie76 that too 😉
I do like the hard-edged vocal delivery here, but I prefer the tempo of the original LP version. This is too frenetic.
Damn, this is good, what a band, what a singer!
What an amazing artist! R.i.p Robert, you and your wonderful vocals /songwriting are truly missed.
That was always my favorite song by Robert Palmer, and the most forgotten

Mr. Palmer and the rest of the band amazing! This is it... The real life played stuff!!! 🤸🏃🕺💃🕴️
Fantastic singing and tune..Brill
I encourage everyone here to seek out Robert's first band Vinegar Joe. That band had some seriously talented musicians in it.
Including Elkie Brooks, another great singer.
Incredible vocal performance. Incredible.
