I was interested in a new one until I seen it. This game looks like somebody took cod iw zombies seriously, and then halfway thru ditched the zombies. Then couple that with cringe, mid gameplay, mid gameplay, MID GAMEPLAY... It's sad man, they keep releasing the same slow paced bs. Remember when fps used to make shooting ppl fun? Now it's just a task, you can almost see the dps and rof charts behind the balancing.
I also want another Gravity Rush. And the online functionality for Gravity Rush 2 back. Instead they spend 200 million on Concord. I wonder how they plan to get the money back.
this drop was due to the matchmaking issues. And with just 200 players, they either shut down servers completely, or add bots into the matchmaking. Because 200 players worldwide divided into regions and time zones, leaves you with just a handful of ppl to play with at any given hour...
The engineers who did a fine job programing the foundation of this game are fine because they got paid doing it, same as everyone else who made not so good contributions. The biggest losers will be Sony who paid what $200M for this game.
It's not even a good game. Slow-moving bullet-sponges are not fun to play. But they weren't focused on the game. They were focused on pushing narratives. Which they then promptly hid from the Steam categories because nobody actually wanted that. More people are hiding games with that tag than shopping for games with it.
@moss7282 They're trying to say that the game failed because it has the gays in it and people on Steam hide anything featuring the rainbow people. When, if you watch the video, there's way more to Concord's abject failure than that. Since despite people having a hateboner for "wokeness" plenty of games do extremely well. The Last of Us 2 and Overwatch are good examples.
Making all the characters fat, ugly, or old was not a great trade off. A hero shooter relies on iconic characters that people remember, cosplay as, buy merch for, and can easily recognize at a glance. These characters are generic garbage that are unappealing and even repulsive to look at.
Easily character design alone is what is putting everyone off of it. I've commented to myself that I'll probably give it a try when it's F2P, but the characters are so badly designed I definitely won't last unless they do a major overhaul in this area.
"But we're representing you!" How about offering some characters I'd actually WANT TO BE instead of trying to represent the biggest, ugliest, most repellent people around. I don't play games so I can pretend I'm Lizzo, defending body-positivity and the rainbow
Big flops like this have me worried that that game industry is in a really bad place. Budgets are so bloated that studios can't afford risks, so they chase tends. But dev times take so long that the trends they're chasing are probably going to be over or too crowded by the time the game is done. It's a catch 22.
How much do you wanna bet that in spite of how terrible this game is and how poorly it'll sell, they'll still keep making live service games like this? Whereas games like Crash 4 and Hi-Fi Rush are seen by their publishers as failures because they didn't sell 900 billion copies in a day.
Thats the saddest part, live service games make them so much money that it’s financially reasonable for a game to flop and pay for a new one until one is a hit and makes the money back. Look at apex they are charging 500 bucks for a skin in a fps. Live service is truly one of the most harmful trends in gaming.
@@sebastianch1553Thats the funny part. Game like Apex or LoL know who are horny enough, rich enough, unsatisfied enough, and lacking life to the point a 500 bucks skin like Ahri's Faker still going to have customers. The dev of this game kinda refuses to acknowledge the demand of marketable, SFM portable, and groovy artistic character yet planning to sell those atrocious pricey things.
@neveragain.4070 Yeah... and isn't that just a damn shame. Corporatization has gone overboard in this medium, to the point it's sucking the life out of it. Thank God for indie games.
at the end of the day they got to make a profit though, even if gamer loves it, if it doesn't sell enough to justify the cost of making it, or if more generic options are safer and make the same profit, they'll prob tend towards the safer option. As it is a multi mil $ gamble. Many mobile and such games can tend to be greedy and chase the high $, at the expense of the player or the game being less fun
It doesn't even look that boring. It's just not innovative enough to warrant switching from your fav games of the same genre. People massively overexaggerate with their feelings about this game
Hey bro give chance to the Nsfw artists bro! Soon theres art of Concord over there, the Retarded girls category yeah!! The green girl with tail, she's in that category alright!

It has a box price with no single player mode, and the characters are some of the blandest I've ever seen. Even with that, I'm absolutely dumbstruck by how titanic of a failure the game has been. If you told me the steam player statistics were bugged, I'd believe you. Concord is a game that will be studied for generations.
I have a friend that actually liked this game, and she did one of the time attack modes. There are so few people playing that she is number 1 in the world for that specific character. She then refunded the game. Even the people who like this game are refunding it.
@@acex222 for full package video games not a live service online arena shooter with no campaign elements overwatch launched at $60 in 2016 but that game was innovative and excellent with almost zero competitors especially at launch
I'd like to feel bad for the devs but I really don't. They got reality checked very hard during the open beta and classified legitimate feedback as "white noise". This was made by and for a modern audience that doesn't exist, and their own arrogance ended up leading to their downfall. This isn't a "oh if they only did this and that the game would be better!" type of game. If you are going to call your own potential buyers "talentless freaks" after failing then I have the right to laugh on your face. The amount of articles this game has begging for people to give it a "fair chance" is ridiculous. Making games isn't a charity. Be humble and love your audience and the money will come.
The fact that Sony did everything to hinder the growth of helldivers 2 (despite its lack of in-game variety, server issues, etc.) and decided to have this as their golden goose absolutely baffles me
Tragedy is too strong a word. This isn't a car crash. No one died. This isn't like failing physical infrastructure. Its just failing vapid entertainment. IT sucks for the people whore losing their job, but it wasn't a job that "needed" to be done for society by any stretch of the imagination. I'm tired of the "poor" developers narrative. They did their jobs. They delivered. It'll go on their resume. It's fine. Heck, they got paid, and can potentially, learn from their mistakes.
It's a "tragedy" because the money and work spent producing this... whatever it is could have been put toward something worthwhile. Hundreds of millions of dollars literally set ablaze.
the crime was woke, the sentence is broke! we do not train to be merciful here, mercy is for those who deserve it...wokesters are unworthy of mercy! could say more but that's it!
Those people deserve to lose their jobs and never be hired again, especially the one that came with the idea to give a trash can and a blueberry pronouns.
I think if the heroes delivered on a hero fantasy, we might be in a much different situation. There's a few pain points here: 1. The heroes all look like background characters of a space opera movie or even Starfield. There are a few exceptions to this, but over 90% of the characters don't feel like "heroes" so much as an average joe. The Florida men of space, if you will. The characters themselves could stay exactly how they are, but they need better outfits, better personal styling, and much, much more personality than Guardians of the Galaxy quirkiness. And what's with their color palettes? One of the characters has 3 green colors in their outfit: an olive, a pastel, and a cerulean, combined with a royal purple? It sounds like a stupid complaint, but it's genuinely aesthetically unpleasing to look at. 2. At a glance, I can't tell what hero fantasy they are. Again, a couple exceptions here, but in general, I can't tell what kind of gameplay they're going to have. Even when I played some of them expecting a certain hero fantasy, they had some weird jank to their ability kits that didn't live up to the fantasy. That's to say that their kits felt incomplete or disjointed with what I wanted to do. 3. Where is our in-game character banter? Aren't these supposed to be fleshed out characters who know each other? You're telling me you're going to try and sell this Guardians of the Galaxy quipiness without having that whenever a teammate gets a kill, captures an objective, or even just loads into the game or wins? 4. Speaking of hero/class fantasy, because the game doesn't have a big ability like an ultimate or even just one long cooldown ability to use, they're relying on the moment to moment gameplay being inherently exciting and satisfying enough to carry players through. But without that strong hero identity to their design and their kits, it all ultimately feels boring and uninspired. This isn't even a "woke" thing either, despite how people just want to regurgitate some boring rhetoric about diversity ruining games. Overwatch has more gay, old, fat, non binary, diverse characters than this game, but is somehow doing amazingly well for themselves. Apex even has a trans character. If this game truly has any "woke" identity to it, it's buried and out of sight of the common gamer because they're not confident in any part of this game enough to promote something like that. All in all, If they had just nailed the hero designs so that they looked like they stood out in the universe and were actual characters with protagonist energy, I think the game could've succeeded. But here we are...
I mean, nobody cares about diversity per se, what they care about is checklist corporate DEI and associated moralistic lecturing, critical and gender theory nonsense, which this surely is.
You guys always think when ppl say woke it JUST means diversity. It's the pushing of diversity to the point that it negatively affects the product ( this can happen with fanservice too for example) if you don't agree with this point too fine but you're not even arguing against the correct point in the first place.
@@jjojon7072"woke" has been overused to the point where most people just use it to point out non-white or queer characters, you can argue what it "actually" means all day long overwhelming majority of people don't use it and will ignore it when it is used, especially when it's almost exclusively used by grifters
@@daskollektiv4593 it doesn't matter if they use woke or another word (performative representation for e.g.) the same problem would arise and the overwhelming majority doesn't ignore it as much as before especially when any criticism against media nowadays labels ppl as bigot or any other accusation.
The character design alone makes this game so unmarketable its honestly hilarious. Like wtf are you suppose to use to market the game? The fat characters? The ugly ones? That one generic looking robot?
This deserves to be the fate of EVERY future live service game. See games like Space Marine 2 from the look of it is “live service” done right because it’s combined the live service model and the box model together where the game will get post launch support despite the fact that it’s going to be a feature complete product on release and the additional content is going to be free with the “MTX/DLC” being purely cosmetic. A Live service should be a companion system not the whole point of a game.
Live service games existed for a long LONG time. It's just back then, they were called expansions or DLC. A live service game is fun when done well. Look no further than Counter Strike or even Team Fortress 2. The problem with Concord isn't because it's a live service game. Its issue is that the game has repulsive characters and messages. For fk sake, a ROBOT in this game has pronounce. No one is going to take this game seriously.
SM 2 is not a live service, a Live Service is a game optimised to promote recurrent user spending like a Gacha Game or a Freemium title like warframe. SM2 is just a 3rd person shooter with some planned DLC. It's not conceptualised as a 10 year game like for honour or destiny or WoW.
The most basic thing for a multiplayer game is vibe, would the theme appeal to you. This is Overwatch with diversity freaks as characters, not an original bone in its body, not a single appealing element, visual, or hook of any kind. Who did they imagine would even play this golemslop?
main reason for its failure is LIVE SERVICE, Suicide Squad and Skull and Bones failed, Suicide Squad failed like Avengers and BOTH had the advantage of a major super hero license. Live Service games are a huge time and money suck, and there are not enough people and money to support all of them and there is a GLUT of these types of games making it hard for any new live service to get a footing. Concord just looked BLAND and GENERIC that reeked of being conceived by a marketing firm using focus group research data. Right Trend Chasing, by the time this game was released that Trend has been over saturated.
Concord's downfall is from multiple factors. The hero-shooter genre is overcrowded, it's not free-to-play in a market full of free games, and the characters in-game are truly uninspiring and bland.
If it was a game with cute anime girls killing each other I would've give it a shot, gunplay seem solid but overly ugly character design is a no no for me
@@whitewall2253not really the game is just very average gameplay wise. If you can’t at least make appealing characters why would I play it over. Valorant or Overwatch
You're missing the point. If the game had Nikke character designers making everyone into a sexy anime babe it would still be a mid hero shooter in an oversaturated market. If I want cute anime girls killing each other there is a glut of better products out there for cheaper, why give 40 dollars to Sony. THATS pathetic.
I just don't understand why they thought the cinematics were an actual $40.00 selling point. If this was free to play I wouldn't be as harsh as I've been since it was announced.
I bet bungie is in a full blown panic right now because they're making a 5v5 hero shooter... they have to be looking at this and questioning their decision
The smart thing to do would have been for the studio to take note when the team shooter market was becoming incredibly oversaturated, and pivoted hard to a creative new niche, or implemented a new mechanic that their competitors didn’t have.
> A hero shooter with ugly heroes > $40 when every competitor is free to play > Zero fresh ideas, corporate design with no personality whatsoever > Made by they/them clowns who openly hate gamers > Advertises its story as its unique feature while having cringe writing and art design What could go wrong, right?
I've been really fascinated with Concord since it's announcement and trying to find criticism of why it doesn't work that isn't just "there's a fat character" (as if Roadhog doesn't have a dedicated playerbase or everyone seems to love Deadlock's Dynamo) has been next to impossible, so cheers for doing that. It's a game with some interesting ideas but also a lot of core issues that I don't think can be resolved. One thing that might be worth bringing up as well with regards to live service entrenchment is how microtransactions probably reinforce it. If you've spent hundreds of dollars over many years on cosmetics for your favorite character in a hero shooter, you're probably not going to make the jump to another title unless you're well and truly done.
It's a lot easier to slap some assets into UE5 than designing an ultra polished custom engine for large scale MP like Concord. But Concord clearly also suffered from development hell at some point, it shouldn't have cost this much regardless.
First off, THANK YOU for not using this as an excuse to go on some culture war rant. I've had so much trouble finding someone who talks about the games without trying to sell me on some ideology or another. I can honestly say that I despise the extremism on both sides that has infested games discussion since 2015, and as a result, I very rarely consume games media anymore. Instead, you offer sober, rational discussion about the game's many flaws and the realities of the market. Also, I totally agree with you that it's not really the fault of the grunts coding in the trenches. This was all about the orders from on-high at Sony. I think the fact that this took eight years is a large part of the problem. Not only do existing games improve, but the very nature of live service games precludes casual introduction. This probably would have been a perfectly fine, successful game four or five years ago, but not now, when there are multiple of these games with their own established fanbases in a pretty set genre. Honestly, I think this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Game development is getting more complicated and expensive as time goes on and the big-budget studios continue to demand the latest and greatest graphical tech. Sacrifices are going to have to get made in order for big-budget gaming to escape the death spiral of unsustainability they're in now. Then there's the very nature of live service games. There's a few games absolutely dominating the space, and everyone else is either fighting for scraps of closes down in a year. Quite frankly, no one has any real business making live service games anymore unless they're willing to take the sort of risks that are going to be absolutely necessary to beat games like Fortnite, COD, Valorant and Overwatch. "Tried and true" isn't going to work when you have a small pool compared to the broader gaming market.
I get that this game was apparently in development for 8 years, but it's still wild to me that in all that time they never pivoted the game in response to industry trends. Like if this game was really made in response to Overwatch, why were they unable to make it free to play like Overwatch 2? It's like they designed the game in 2016 and never looked at that design again until now
I was ready to pay for the game until I saw that the trashcan has pronouns, then I realized there is no Canadian immigrant from south China with type 2 diabetes left side amputee, suffering of hyperdontia. So yeah, this game isn’t inclusive for all of us, pretty selective and not a single albino character either? What year is it? 1600?
Fr, I just cant see it any other way. This game woulve performed tremendously better than what its currently doing IF the characters were easy on the eyes
You can bet your a$s it's more post-modernist neo-Commie TRASH when they think UGLY is fashionable. The Cult has a name for it, they call it "Queered". & it means the opposite of whatever you do nanny nanny boo boo
$40 for a solid enough PvP game trying at least some things differently? - Hell no. $80 to get access to the beta of Black ops 6, when the last Zombies was utter garbage and the multiplayer hasn't innovated substantially since Black Ops 2? Hell yeah brother take my money. This is why 99/100 devs these days don't take risks and keep churning out the same garbage they know their playerbase will buy anyway
That gameplay looks like Quake. But somehow sluggish. As a hero shooter in the vein of TF2, OW, Valorant, and the like, there are no corridors, no choke points, just open flow maps with automatic weapons leading to a lot of running around and shooting at random.
5:05 that blue/green girl emote when selected for some reasons managed to make me angry. ... It's like a condensed of every single worst trait of the "genki excited girl that love fighting way too much" condensed into one.
The games character design is what killed it future from its reveal. If majority of the heroes looked cool or were attractive to normal people it would have done better sales wise.
I believe, what people mean it's not "it's good cause they deserve failing" but "this will help industry leaders understand that just throwing money at bad copies is ineffective." A good artist knows how to develop a good game. Marketing people don't.
So, very simple question, what keeps making money in a "live-service"? Skins, WHO WANTS A SKIN FOR DAW?! In fact for ANY of them. Now, okay but skins don't bring new players right? But there's the exact same problem, who looks at concord and want to play those "heroes", even if someone sees the gameplay and thinks it looks solid, they'll look at the "heroes" and think "well who the hell do I pick? They all look like Guardians of the Galaxy rejects" Style sells, you look at OverWatch, now yes it isn't in the best position right now, but still, you look at Reaper and Genji and Rhinehart and all the other characters and think "oh that character looks cool, let's try them out" Let's say there's a game, it has the best FPS gameplay ever, the coolest and funnest abilities, but every "Hero" looks like some twisted version of Gollum, how many people will play that game? How may people will even TRY that game if it was free? "But who cares about those skins?" How do you think a free to play hero shooter exists, do you think it's a charity? If no one cared about skins there would be no free to play hero shooter, or any "live-service" for that matter. Hell, look at "Gacha" games, why do you think people spend so much on them? They want the characters, why do they want the characters? Because they are "meta" OP units? Maybe for some, but most people just like the character, it's design. Do you think if Concord was a Gacha game ANYONE would want ANY of those characters? Style and design is everything in games, and I'm the type that focuses on the gameplay of games, I prefer Elden Ring over God of War or Spider-Man, because Its gameplay feels better, but even those two games, look at the character designs, look at DMC 3/4/5 and compare those to "DMC:Devil May Cry", even though the game's combat is pretty solid and some bosses are decent, but it's trash overall because it pales in design. TLDR Don't make full roster of ugly characters.
@@someguy6152 this. I considered playing Paladins because of dragondude. I consider playing marvel rivals because of venom. I will buy fighting games if there a cool characters in it even if its not the best game. Roster focused games NEED to have a character for everyone.

Thanks for an adult take on the matter in a media platform seemingly filled with screaming babies all copying eachother for max views. This game exposed a lot of them as shallow.
The game Failed because its Characters are LAUGHABLY Terribly Designed. period. it would have done ok if not for that. maybe. nobody is really into hero shooters anymore, either. but some people still are. but if you make a game for the "Modern Audience" expect that Audience to buy it and nobody else. and they did! all 600 of em!
Those 600 were the devs and their friends. We still have to find the Modern Audience, I'm afraid. But I am determined, I will find him or her (or them, or cir, or co, or cyr, or em, or hem, or nem, or quem, or hir, or tem, or xem, or yo, or zir, or vis), even if it has to be my life's work.
The main reason this failed is that this is somehow a passion project from people who have an unending well of passion for ripping off other IP's and nothing else. This game was not made because anyone on the team had a story to tell, characters in their head they loved they wanted the world to see, a new type of game they thought the world needed. This game was made because a bunch of veterans from other shooter companies got together and said "We want to do the jobs we were doing over there, but over here now". They saw Overwatch and went "Man, I really also want to make Overwatch". They had no great wellspring of creative character work in their head because all they did was just rip off Guardians of the Galaxy, and then archetypes from other games. Where there was nothing really to rip off, you get people who look like they clean up crime scenes in Haz Mat suits and Dock Workers in their PPE. It's supreme arrogance, or maybe legitimate idiocy, to come at a project from this perspective, with the main goal of ripping off other things, then showcasing these characters in their own little movie vignettes as if none of us can tell what they're ripping off. There are very many people in Firewalk studios who truly think nobody will see these shorts and go "Oh, Guardians of the Galaxy". These characters don't have any personality or clever lines or defining animation because the people making them don't have any personality, have never said anything clever, and have never done anything defining themselves. They've only worked on multiplayer shootbangs whose gameplay does not need or want to make any sort of lore sense, so they don't recognize derivative story and they don't understand why lore doesn't matter when all your game exists to be is mindless gunfights against other character templates. The technical work in this game is really good, but the studio needs to be broken up and its employees shipped back to the companies they came from. If you gave this studio another chance and told them to make another game in another genre, you would get the same result: a game in that genre that does what every other game from 5 years ago did, featuring characters other people created, just done worse. And that's the best case scenario. A few of the team leads here (lead character designer/lead game designer) legit might need to find another career. There's having a misstep, and then there's being directly responsible for the worst flop of all time.
Well, that's the thing, many of them were kicked out of those companies for any reason and Concord would have been something created out of vengance rather than real passion
People were actually hyped for this game until they heard it was a 5v5 hero shooter. I'm sure there is some sort of game where these characters and this setting would be a good fit, but a pvp hero shooter is NOT IT.
@@kranichkrone I think it's time to admit devs who make this type of game might do it because they want that sweet microtransaction money or whatever, but part of it is probably that they literally don't know how to make a single player experience. All they've ever known is action figures hopping around a factory map shooting each other for no reason, free of context, and the second it becomes more thoughtful and complex than they they fall apart at the seams. Blizzard tried TWICE to do something story based with the Overwatch characters and failed both times.
Great video, the usual "Haha, hope this feels" vibe was getting tired. Love seeing the recognition that it's not a bad game, just in a crowded market. It doesn't deserve the hate and I'm sure it'll find it's crowd when everyone moves on to the next thing the internet hates for the week.
To be fair, I’ve never heard anyone talk bad about the gameplay. The reality is all the BS their trying to push, I could see you tried avoiding the topic, but that’s the reason no one’s playing that. A re-Skin and change of story would help salvage the game but it’s pretty late for anything
Personally I was so excited for this game until I realized there’s no Lebanese lady suffering from hemorrhoids, diabetes type 3, diphallia and paralysis from the knees upwards, I just don’t feel represented enough and it really hurts. When I play videogames I wanna feel disgusted and reminded about how ugly the real world is instead of emerging into a beautiful imaginary world that writers and designers are paid to create.

You can't ask for better market research. The specific recipe that is Concord managed to fail close to 99% of a typical range that a videogame can expect to have as an install base. It's like getting a puzzle completely wrong: you essentially know there's nothing salvageable and can try something different.
So you say it's not just why bad game is bad And then proceeded to list bad shit for bad game I get it we summarize it as bad game = skip, this is because most people who buy video games at least can look at it online and see it's creatively bankrupt Remember, we don't play games just for function and features, to recall a past event similar to this, Captain Marvel can't replace Magneto just because she has a 8 way dash,
Precisely, i legitimatedly feel the whole deal of "functions" fiasco was completly a bad idea, because it undermines the legacy the marvel characters have. Magneto isnt a function, he is the master of magnet, a powerful mutant and complex character
Making a hero shooter with bland/ugly "heroes" is so baffling it surprises me it made it past stage one of the design and marketing teams. They're literally the selling point of the game...or rather, the lack of a selling point in Concord's case.
These studios take in outside DEI money and hope that the bonus injection of cash + the base sales of the game will make it profitable. In this case there was no base sale of the game to rely on and so it alienated everyone in exchange for only a tiny upfront bonus.
All this game needed to have a chance in the market was be free to play and to not intentionally make ugly characters. That's it. Coomers can prop up ANY game.
There is no need to get this sentimental about the notion of concord. It is a pile of shit mistakes and sometimes in life it is just way better to say something fucking sucks ass.
Hearing the final words of the video around the 19:21 mark and then looking at the comments is just kind of sad. This seemed like a fairly thoughtful video, but I don’t really see it cutting through any of the noise. Maybe it’s not too shocking. No one was ever really invested to begin with.
Slide squad also had a very woke agenda to promote, which is why it failed. The gameplay is fun but making Mr..Freeze an Indian woman was NOT a good marketing strategy, woke games need to chill, we play games to escape reality not to fight politics.
I struggle to agree with what was said about the gameplay, cos it's not that people abandoned the game, they didn't even bother to try it, so they were uninterested at best and repulsed by it at worst. The price isn't even an issue imo, we've seen people happily pay the fee for even an early access or beta if the game looks interesting enough. It visually doesn't appeal and doesn't look interesting
Lawbreakers was ahead of its time. Concord is late. The scenarios are actually opposite. If Lawbreakers was released this year, it would actually be notable competitor in the live service space.
You make a lot of good points in this video. The problem with this video is that people didn't buy/consider buying because of the politics, so the point of "people didn't buy these gameplay reasons" is moot because I'm sure a lot of people don't even know what the game is about/how it plays (myself included) and just didn't buy this on principle. If this game had sales but playercount dropped, then I'd say you have a point about mentioning gameplay. However hardly anyone even bought this game. So its fair to say people judged this game by its cover and chose not to purchase.
11:30 I've played league since its first alpha, overwatch since its beta, i tried concord for several hours in beta. i didn't need someone to make my experience for me or bring me into the games. Character is cool, it fits my play style, i like it, if it has extra lore? awesome. league used to drop extensive lore for characters. prior to being a microtransaction farming machine. OW had pretty characters and fun combat, it also came with cool shorts during its launch phase for those of us that paid $60 and didn't need to wait several years for it to be free to give it a chance. Concord's intro video highlights several characters that give a GoTG vibe, would've been cool if they explored more of that, but price point for something that's got decent gun play but not enough maps IMO, even before the hate people gave it, make it a hard sale. At least they tried to make something "unique" yet the same in the hero shooter category (which i'm personally tired of) but i'd honestly play it over OW2 tank/heal champion snorefest game. Edit: forgot to add, i hate character quips,, i'm not here to hear some dumbshit being said inbetween fights.
Same exact game...... with a more realistic miltary aesthetic......aggressive character design.........for $20 : it had a chance. It's repulsive. Flat out. For free its repulsive. For $40 ? Gtfo. You pay ME $40 to play this.
while i think it being woke has made it a huge failure, i think even removing the woke it would not have done great. it just made is something no one would touch.
If a friend asked me to try out a game, and the character roster looked like concords, i would opt out of trying it. regardless of the game behind it. A "people of walmart" fighter could he kinda funny tho
I don't think it matter if the game is $0 or $40. You spend $40 on soda and corn on the cob at the fair without thinking about it. Remember that the average age of online players are 30 years old. not 10 year old's with no money...
That's simply not true. You have a lot more incentives in checking out or buying a game if it's relatively cheap or free. I wouldn't have bought Helldivers 2 (and later regretted it, over time, considering Arrowhead incompetence) if it costed 70€. I wouldn't have bought that broken game F1 Manager 2024 if it costed 60€.
@@8Tarkus8 Sure when a game is 70 euro or more than you might not buy it on a whim but 40 dollars first of all is 35 euro and that is relatively cheap. I didn't preorder Star Wars Outlaw because of the price tag for an example.
People are laughing at the game because because its dead on arrival. And everyone (that knew of the game) saw it coming Its just mid in the fiercest landscape of competition
Exactly, great words! People did their best to make this game, it didn't work out, and we should admit that they might be going through huge stress, or sadness. Let's hope they will end up in projects that will succeed.
The people who hate on the game solely because of it being "woke" are mostly UA-cam commenters Those who actually know something about the game other than its flop hate it because it's just too bland for its price
@@unfunniestman that's fair enough. When wokeness became pro-Hamas, and free market became Elon Musk worshipping, I suppose we need to judge things more deeply than with flat political biases.
Even if the game was free, its not an exciting game you want to play. And that comes from someone who was waiting for this launch, because I enjoy hero shooters. The nail in the coffin to me is, it does not run on Linux. There are so many other good games I can play instead.
My reason for not buying it was killing opponents takes a little bit more time. So it's impossible for a solo player to take on 2-3 opponents at the same time.
Gamers are smart enough to know when you push something to them, and they value their time a lot. It's the real reason the game failed and probably so slow in development (Apex took 3 years). It's a sensitive subject because the suspects are sensitive people, but these people are just deep in their delusion they lack actual real-life experience to make something that has meaning. Welcome to the real world.
This game really creates a strong emotion of pity towards the developers. I can see the effort in their game but I just really don't think it should have come out in the way it did. Its kinda a big shame honestly, I wish the best for the developers and I hope the ones that strove to make a really good game find success in the future.
It's also fascinating to simultaneously see the complete opposite reaction to Astro Bot, which was revealed the same day as Concord. All that funding, marketing and Netflix deal toward making Concord the next big thing, with 8 years of development and 150+ devs, but is hated from the start and flops on release. Compared to Astro Bot, with minimal marketing and no media push, 3 years of development and 60 devs, loved immensely from the start and seems lined up to be a huge smash hit resonating with kids and adults around the world. Interesting contrast between 2 major first party releases.
Reason it flopped is because It's a 40 dollar game with mid to decent character design and nothing really going for it gameplay wise that puts it as better than other live service offerings. You gotta drop 40 to test this when other shooters are free, it had no chance
The game flopped because they enter a market dominated by straight white male while the game doesn’t have any straight white men or women those straight white men would find appealing enough to want to play the game for. What went good with Overwatch was the rule34 content, let’s agree to agree. Sounds bad but it is what it is, people pay for whatever makes their lighthouse rise. I wouldn’t join this circus of a roster if the game was for free.
@YHWH-XY While you wouldn't but others would try the game if it was free, hence the better numbers during the beta. Game would still flop if it was free but it definitely doesn't have enough appeal in gameplay, writing, or character design to justify that 40 dollar price tag

But dev times take so long that the trends they're chasing are probably going to be over or too crowded by the time the game is done. It's a catch 22.
The big studios are toast. If you want to play decent games, you'll be playing indie games released on PC.

Thats the saddest part, live service games make them so much money that it’s financially reasonable for a game to flop and pay for a new one until one is a hit and makes the money back. I'd like to feel bad for the devs but I really don't. They got reality checked very hard during the open beta and classified legitimate feedback as "white noise". This was made by and for a modern audience that doesn't exist, and their own arrogance ended up leading to their downfall. If you make a hero shooter you actually have to make heros that people will like.
I think if the heroes delivered on a hero fantasy, we might be in a much different situation. There's a few pain points here:

Lol, GolemSlop.. im using that😂
main reason for its failure is LIVE SERVICE, Suicide Squad and Skull and Bones failed, Suicide Squad failed like Avengers and BOTH had the advantage of a major super hero license.

> A hero shooter with ugly heroes
> $40 when every competitor is free to play

What could go wrong, right?

Just pre ordered space marine 2 gold edition on ps5 🎉 now that's worth my money 💰
I get that this game was apparently in development for 8 years, but it's still wild to me that in all that time they never pivoted the game in response to industry trends. Like if this game was really made in response to Overwatch, why were they unable to make it free to play like Overwatch 2? It's like they designed the game in 2016 and never looked at that design again until now
I think saying that $40 is the downfall of Concord is not true at all. It’s the hideous characters that made it fail.

They all look like Guardians of the Galaxy rejects"
Style sells, you look at OverWatch, now yes it isn't in the best position right now, but still, you look at Reaper and Genji and Rhinehart and all the other characters and think "oh that character looks cool, let's try them out"
Let's say there's a game, it has the best FPS gameplay ever, the coolest and funnest abilities, but every "Hero" looks like some twisted version of Gollum, how many people will play that game?
How may people will even TRY that game if it was free?
"But who cares about those skins?"
How do you think a free to play hero shooter exists, do you think it's a charity?
TLDR
Don't make full roster of ugly characters.
@@someguy6152 this. I considered playing Paladins because of dragondude. I consider playing marvel rivals because of venom. I will buy fighting games if there a cool characters in it even if its not the best game. Roster focused games NEED to have a character for everyone.

The peak of games for the ominous modern audience. At least we got a number of players now
Some of those players have a vested interest in the games's success. Subtract at least 10% of those players.
@@alpha34098 Well they sure showed them, huh!

A pve mode + redoing the Characters could save the game.
So you say it's not just why bad game is bad
And then proceeded to list bad shit for bad game
I get it we summarize it as bad game = skip, this is because most people who buy video games at least can look at it online and see it's creatively bankrupt
Remember, we don't play games just for function and features, to recall a past event similar to this, Captain Marvel can't replace Magneto just because she has a 8 way dash,
Precisely, i legitimatedly feel the whole deal of "functions" fiasco was completly a bad idea, because it undermines the legacy the marvel characters have.
Magneto isnt a function, he is the master of magnet, a powerful mutant and complex character
@@lsebastian9086 and now we see a perfectly functional hero shooter without any real character to back up it's mechanics
Making a hero shooter with bland/ugly "heroes" is so baffling it surprises me it made it past stage one of the design and marketing teams. They're literally the selling point of the game...or rather, the lack of a selling point in Concord's case.
This is actually the tamest comment section regarding this game. Most others are a 50/50 mix of a MAGA rally and a villainous monologue competition.
Not just MAGA that are sick of the Commie trash..
These studios take in outside DEI money and hope that the bonus injection of cash + the base sales of the game will make it profitable. In this case there was no base sale of the game to rely on and so it alienated everyone in exchange for only a tiny upfront bonus.
Just say you’re racist bro
DEI has nothing to do with this, it was another live service concieved by a marketing group using focus group data.

All this game needed to have a chance in the market was be free to play and to not intentionally make ugly characters. That's it. Coomers can prop up ANY game.
They promote ugliness. But they never admit it. Because beauty standards are "subjective" according to them. For normal people, it is objective.
Only one frase needed... The game looks like AI made the game.
Nah, AI could do better.
Thank you for having a level-headed and cool response to this game in a sea of people having knee jerk reactions.
2:15 slip n' slide squad seems more appropriate, anyway.
Great video, thank you for giving an actual breakdown of *why* Concord isn't doing well.
This video already has more viewers than Concord's total player count.
Amazing you gave a year for game to be shut down, and in is closing tomorrow (09/06/2024) at only two weeks of its launch.
Them making it like Overwatch was a *BIG* mistake they won't be able to recover from.
It's not even like overwatch. Concord is shit but most of you screeching gamers haven't even looked up a gameplay vieeo
Doesn’t look like OverWatch to me tbh
How did they not learn from LAWBREAKERS, and why is no one else mentioning it?
Lawbreakers was ahead of its time. Concord is late. The scenarios are actually opposite. If Lawbreakers was released this year, it would actually be notable competitor in the live service space.
@@hatchibyebye Wasn't one of the reasons Lawbreakers failed the gritty realistic art style?
@@kranichkrone in hindsight the art style don’t look too different to Apex
You make a lot of good points in this video.
The problem with this video is that people didn't buy/consider buying because of the politics, so the point of "people didn't buy these gameplay reasons" is moot because I'm sure a lot of people don't even know what the game is about/how it plays (myself included) and just didn't buy this on principle.
If this game had sales but playercount dropped, then I'd say you have a point about mentioning gameplay.
However hardly anyone even bought this game.
So its fair to say people judged this game by its cover and chose not to purchase.
Sir Mugthief posts again!

Now they HAVE to port bloodbourne to make up for the loss.
Flopping harder than Suicide Squad in the same year is an accomplishment in and of itself.
Same exact game...... with a more realistic miltary aesthetic......aggressive character design.........for $20 : it had a chance.
It's repulsive. Flat out. For free its repulsive. For $40 ? Gtfo. You pay ME $40 to play this.
Finally a good video about this game
I really liked your reasonable well thought out and kind approach to this. Great video!
I'll simplify this game....
It's WOKE
while i think it being woke has made it a huge failure, i think even removing the woke it would not have done great. it just made is something no one would touch.

And everyone (that knew of the game) saw it coming
Its just mid in the fiercest landscape of competition
Really enjoyed listening to your point of view on this matter.
I have never played a live service game and never will. I don't get the appeal of them even when they're free, much less at $40.
The characters i play have to be beautiful. I simply don't want to identify with ugly, that's too much like real life i ain't about that 😂
Exactly, great words! People did their best to make this game, it didn't work out, and we should admit that they might be going through huge stress, or sadness. Let's hope they will end up in projects that will succeed.
Came here for some toxic and anti-woke to pass the time at work. Stayed for the really decent and professional human being talking.
The people who hate on the game solely because of it being "woke" are mostly UA-cam commenters
Those who actually know something about the game other than its flop hate it because it's just too bland for its price
Greetings from Hong Kong
The character design is atrocious. It's not "mid to decent" in any universe.
