  • Let's Play Factorio for the first time at the end of 2022! I've played a bunch of Satisfactory on the channel and many viewers told me to check this out as kind of a "2D Satisfactory" but Factorio seems to have both predated Satisfactory and also be different and fun in its own ways. There are lots of overlaps but I am loving learning what sets this game apart and enjoy automating my factory from a top-down perspective, as things seem a little easier to see and organize.
    Come see me learn Factorio!

    It is very refreshing seeing you figure all the things out, it gives such a nostalgic vibe. i also have like 1000+ in this game but i remember so much things i did exactly like you before i got it all right. Very nice approach to a game, it is appreciated. As im like 3 months too late, it doesnt really make sense to give you tipps, but also factorio is one of the games where the figuring out part is one of the best things of it.

    The key in this game to to automate everything! 😁 You haven't tried the assembler yet, but I'm sure you'll need it for the next level. With it, you'll be able to automate ammo and anything else that you're going to need a lot of. Good luck!

    1-You can melee if you are out of ammo, by just pressing spacebar.
    2- the reason it says out of reach when you were placing the electric poles is because your character needs to be near where you are working(placing stuff down).
    3-idk if it can be done in the tutorial but once you are playing the actual game, you can turn off enemies if you want(imo they are more of a nuisance than anything else)
    4- here's another way to place coal into furnaces: grab a stack of coal, hold the key "z" and just hover over the furnace.(this will only put 1 coal every time you hover ur mouse over a furnace. This is useful because if you have many furnaces adjacent to each other you can just hold z and hover over all of them rapidly)
    5-youll get to mass deconstruct things after you get bots by just click and drag w.e. you want to deconstruct.
    6-you can pause the game with shift+spacebar
    7- if you hover your mouse over say, a mechanical arm or drill and press Q it will copy to your cursor that way you won't need to open you inventory or hotbar to select w.e. you want to place down.
    8-for 1 boiler you can have 2 steam engines

    If you want a bigger UI, there is a "scale UI" option in the settings menu.
    You can also drag the mouse cursor over multiple buildings to transfer items to/from then, as long you're holding the button. No need to click on each one.

    Read the tips would have saved you a lot of time.
    You can chain two steam engines off of each steam boiler, and chain 20 steam boilers off of each off-shore pump (actually it will let you chain even more, but the engines won't work at max power if you exceed these limits). Your electricity doesn't come from the boilers it comes from the engines. Pumping more steam into an engine, like you've done with 2 boilers, won't increase power. You must build more engines to get more power.

    You don't have to be holding an inserter to rotate it. You can mouse over a placed inserter, with an empty hand, and press R to rotate. Also, Shift - R rotates anticlockwise.
    You can also place similar items over other items, like belts and inserters. If you need to change the direction of your transport belts, for instance, you can just rotate the belt in your hand and then place them over top of placed belts. This can also be done when upgrading to better belts.
    It's also interesting how you manually load fuel and ores into things instead of automating the process in a game designed around the idea of automation. ;) But no worries, I think most of us have done that from time to time. It can be a little tricky to get automation setup.

      You're welcome.
      Yeah, it does take a bit of thinking and planning. Plus, I imagine it's compounded by the idea that you're making the video for an audience and it's hard to say what the audience wants or doesn't want. But I think when you're having fun the audience will, too. It is interesting to see how people play games.

      @@Soulsphere001 Different than Factorio, but Mindustry has a similar approach. You learn by failing. You improve from your past failures to find out what does and doesn't work. The main difference between Factorio and Mindustry is that Mindustry has waves you have to defend against, they are timed, and the higher the waves are the more difficult the enemies become. Also, you have to manage multiple sectors. Where as in Factorio the biters don't like pollution and they evolve over time as well as by killing them and destroying their nests. Both games are great.

    15:00 - R to rotate. Most games I've played use Q and E to rotate, so R is kind of an outlier. I guess you could remap it; you just have to find it among the two or three hundred other keyboard commands :) 22:30 - Can't reach. I guess you're used to games where you don't actually exist in the game and you don't have to worry about where you are before you can do anything; this is how most RTS games I've played work. And yeah, "Can't reach" is just a little vague. 27:10 - Restart. Yeah, for a tutorial this has a pretty steep learning curve. You kind of have to ignore everything they say at first and make ammo your top priority, then a machine gun. Part of the problem is as soon as you start up the generator it causes pollution and that attracts the biters, better to keep your industry at a bare minimum until you can defend yourself. At least that's what I figured out after failing this stage multiple times. 35:30 - This is where I got stuck, for hours, and I ended up posting on the Steam discussion board to find out what to do. Tab to change weapons, but I thought ammo was ammo and didn't realize each slot has its own supply. Anyway, good LP so far, especially since it's really hard to do a good LP of an RTS. Some games you're just going to spend a lot of time figuring out controls and mechanics by trial and error. It might be worth mentioning that this game has wiki on the factorio.com domain; it's not some Fandom wiki where you have to fight your way past acres of spam to find anything useful. I don't know if that's actually a good sign; if the game is that intricate then that may be an issue in itself. The last game I played with a wiki on it's own domain was Wurm Online, and too much complexity was definitely an issue there. But it's refreshing to get a question answered without also being told how to meet single Ukrainian women.

    Biters are a bit aggressive for a tutorial, I agree. They will be more aggressive and harder to deal with in freeplay so it might be wise to set them to passive when starting a freeplay game, when you're presented with the option of adjusting game parameters at creation.

    • @DrIncompetent
      @DrIncompetent  2 роки тому

      Oh, neat! Great point! I think as I go faster I will be okay, but I was kind of just exploring and taking too long. If I have turrets they aren't as bad... Still good to know I can do that, though!

    I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the ratio of boilers to steam engines is 1/2 (1 boiler can support 2 engines). You can figure this out by checking the inputs/outputs of each of these buildings. So, when you added that additional boiler, your power output did not change at all. You needed an additional steam engine instead.
    You were low on power for most of the game so your factory was running slower. If you hover over an electric entity, you'll see an "electricity" bar at the bottom of the description. It should be green. If it's yellow or red, it's not getting enough juice and is slowed down.
    Click on a power pole to get a better idea of how your power grid is doing.

    • @DrIncompetent
      @DrIncompetent  2 роки тому

      Haha, whoops! I totally had that wrong! Thank you for explaining it! I was figuring I'd just power off, like in satisfactory if I had a power shortage but this throttles you instead, interesting! I'm going to have to play with that and look at the poles to get it ;D
