I just recently found out my ancestor who was a survivor of the trail of tears her name was Lucy Bearpaw Proctor she was a descendant of John Proctors's uncle also named John Proctor my ancestor john was a famous mayflower voyager while his nephew was the victim depicted in this video who's house you see in the video as well
Man thank you for the video! I watched it the night before we went to Salem. After getting off the train everyone went one way to the cemetery and trials memorial, we went the other way searching for Proctor’s ledge. No one but us were there. After viewing the ledge memorial we walked around up into the trees. What an experience. Sacred with no other tourists around. Thanks again!
Geez, I can't believe how rude some are on this! Some just don't know what they talking about lol. I am a huge fan of the history of Salem and we live on this state. Thank you for this video 😊
Thank you very much! Some people will say whatever behind a screen lol. But it’s all good. I’m glad you enjoyed! Such a beautiful state Massachusetts is 😎✌️
I live next town over and have driven by the site many times but was unaware you could walk up to the ledge. Thanks for this. It is a sad intersection by that Walgreens and I think of those people whenever I drive through it. Superstition kills.
As always, your homework, and hard work paid off.👏 Also, that film clip was well worth it. I can imagine the feelings you had, as you said the energy you felt, at some of those tragic, death' sites. I have been to the usual, well visited, Salem *houses, but never the actual death' sites. Thank you so much, Nick for the respectful way you presented this sad part of our history, that accused innocent people, and...💔 well done👏👏
Hey buddy super neat video and excellent presentation you are awesome 👌 guy thanks for the video buddy I got to get caught up on your videos its been a while
That’s amazing thanks for sharing that! I’m going back to Salem this October and making a new version of this video adding more locations! Thanks again
This was so well done! Thank you for this video. Lots of information the background music is spot on just a great tour guide video all around. Someday I’ll go here to visit.
Thanks so much!! These are great spots to visit in Salem and not many people know about them. I hope more can go visit these locations. Thanks again 😎✌️
It just breaks my heart that one family could cause such a huge massacre over gossip & heresy. Sarah Towne even brought that up & she was ignored but miraculously let go. I hope those girls & their evil priest father and that judge all burn in hell.
@@TravelswithNick out of curiosity, is it a very far walk from the memorial, and are there signs to indicate where the actual site is? I think we’re going to go that way in a little while.
Thanks for watching and for commenting! Thats so cool you’re a descendant! I will have a brand new version of this with even more locations coming out this October 😎✌️
Good luck, my friend. I’m here right now, and traffic/parking is insane. We planned to come in October instead, but we were told that it’s nearly impossible to get around here during Halloween because of how many people flood here. I salute you!!
Compensated my hinny, is a memorial wall dedicated in 2017? Part of said compensation, if you mean money ok but for being murdered by your peers due to hysteria, oh and what about the loss of ancestors in their line? What stupid awful occurrence to have occurred and my best hope is that people everywhere can see its a lesson to remember ❤️👍❤️
Well, I'm glad we've moved passed this dark part of history and no longer need to be worried about our neighbors falsely accusing us of "bad" behavior to a mob of angry people......😐
I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down 😉 ! I felt the exact same way when you wrote this five months ago. But the way things are going now (8/7/24), maybe we're heading into brighter days! 🤞💙
The street below was actually water in 1692. Relatives would come at night by boat to retrieve the bodies and then take them to be buried in unmarked graves. It is said Rebecca Nurses’ family did just that and buried her on the family property in present day Danvers.
Thanks for the info! I actually have a video coming out this fall of when we went to visit the Rebecca Nurse family farm and the area where she was buried
I didn’t know about The Proctor house or the Corey headstones. I’ve been to that area so many times and I’m still learning something new. I actually talked with Tom Brophy when I was in Salem October 2023. He is a very knowledgeable man when it came to the history of that area. Lifelong resident of Salem. He’s the one whose property and house you can see from the ledge.
When your at the memorial, basically go left or right and walk in a big circle following the sidewalk. The entrance to the woods is on Proctor street. If you Google proctor street you’ll have a good idea what I mean. Thanks!
I never drive through that intersection where the Walgreens is without thinking of them. Their families had to come at night, I've read, and recover the bodies, and would walk right past where I'll be stopped at the light.
Correct the families would come at night to retrieve their loved ones. I have a whole new video coming out this fall with even more locations. Thanks for watching
Sadly, condemned witches were refused burial in consecrated ground, so these innocent victims were denied a Christian burial in the regular cemeteries. Giles Corry was my 9th Great-GRANDFATHER but his first wife, Mary Corry was my 9th Great-GRANDMOTHER (who died before the Salem witch trials) was buried in the old cemetery by the original victims memorial.
I live near Salem and used to live there. Best things to see in Salem are: Peabody Essex Museum Salem Witch Museum Historic Cemetery (forget the name, but it’s in the middle of everything) House of Seven Gables Historic homes of Essex Street Pedestrian only downtown shopping street New Pirate Museum.. not the old one with the wax figures
That is not John Proctor's house. John Proctor never lived in that house. It was not built in 1638, more like 1700, after he died. And that is not Giles Corey's grave. You showed the plaque that explains he was not buried there.
@TravelswithNick This is not John Proctor's house. It was purchased/ built by one of John Procters sons. It was the son who was born in prison, while John's wife, Elizabeth, was being held in the witch dungeon for the trials. It was purchased with money that came to the family through reparations for the wrongful death of John Procter. It is called the John Procter house because it was purchased with the sum paid to the family for his death. But John never liked there.
John Proctor was my 8th Great Grandfather. That house is on his property, but it was likely built by his son Thorndike. The wood in the house dates it to the early 1700s. One more note, Please remember that “The Crucible” is greatly fictionalized! John was fifty-nine when this took place and the girl was younger than the story portrays her.
I would like to know where all the bodies were buried. I know some families dug up their loved ones and reburied them on their property. Others were just buried in the woods in unhallowed grounds, and no one knows where that is.
Yea it’s impossible to find any of their exact locations today. Like you said I know some of the families retrieved the bodies and brought them back to bury them on their own land in unmarked graves. I know John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse were taken back by family. Thanks for watching! I have more Salem witch trial videos coming out in 2024 stay tuned 😎✌️
My 9th great grandmother was Mary Parker who was falsely accused and hanged to death. She wasn’t a witch, she was the mother of 10 children who didn’t deserve what happened to her.
Good call! Thanks for adding that. Im going back to Salem this October and making another witch trials video with more locations. I’ll have to add that in. Thanks !
@@TravelswithNick 😋 I was watching your beautiful video, and I noticed when you were showing the diagram of Corey’s life, and saw that his wife was killed too, but you didn't mention her 😂😂 Sorry, 😁 love your work 👍🏻
why do I have to listen to non-stop music through the whole video? actually it's not even music. it's computer noises masquerading as music because you probably have no clue what real music is.

A good old movie from the 90s that was "based on" the witch trials is The Crucible starring Daniel Day Lewis.
