I am first generation Calabrian. With that being said, I was raised by my immigrant grandparents who did not speak English, here in Seattle. I may have well been raised in some small southern Italian town... My wife and I have traveled there, mostly the south, its far flung backcountry villages, and Sicily, three times between 2015 and 2018. Sicily is so quiet, even the spirits there can not remain anonymous. It is like the trees have eyes, and I would feel something watching me all the time. Longing to return, but holding out until the world settles down. I rewatched your video several times. I love everything old and beautiful like you see in Sicily. My wife and I have tried to recreate that beauty here. Our 5,000 square foot West Seattle yard is full of grape arbors, wild roses, a long table built from barn beams, Italian stone bench and fountain, willow trees, cafe lights and umbrellas, fig trees, even a Bougainvillea, and ten olive trees. Hope to see more Italy videos - Happy All Saints Day!

Great to see your Sicilian experiences . We lived on a farm called Giardinello in
Campo Fiorito, Sicily for 8 years. An unforgettable adventure. They grew every
kind of fruit..made wonderful cheeses...Cachocavallo..ricotta salata etc. End of August
I worked a long side the farmers wives picking washing cooking and bottling the
tomato sauce for the year. We learned many interesting things that even the
city folk didn’t know about. I love your life in Washington...Enjoy ! From Puebla, Mexico

My grandparents were from Sicily. The landscape looks so much like where we live in California. Maybe this is why when they left Sicily they settled here. Loved the video and look forward to more❤️

What a great trip to see and experience Sicily. It's so nice to see tradition passed on. I'm a 4th generation Texan. My great Grandfather came to our town in 1887. Thanks Shaye for sharing this. God Bless.

Your message here resonates-a beautiful legacy of continuity as the “Queen of the Vineyard” gives life through the “Mother Vine” providing a legacy of love through the motto of Feudo Montini-doing the hard thing with love (burning love❤️‍🔥) that is always giving way to a cornucopia of meaningful existence… accidentally happened across several bottles at our local Rocket Market in Spokane this afternoon, 2016 and 2018 vintages-truly “elegant!”

Our vineyard is only 12 years old. To think it may live 100’s of years… probably not because we in America don’t have that bond to the land our parents spent lots of sweat over. Oh well, we will enjoy what we do with our hands and hearts as long as we can.

I think in 5 or 10 years they will be gone when people realize they harm the birds, are very unreliable sources of energy, and are actually very detrimental to even manufacture.

Dear Shaye, I love your videos, you are so inspiring to me. ❤ I have a question.. In this video you are saying Fabio has two sons who they are raising to take over the farm one day. I was wondering how you think about that? And also what is your vision for the future?
Because it made me feel a little sad for his children that there ‘path’ is already chosen.. Not that I think it isn’t a great opportunity, I do! But isn’t part of growing up finding what you want and what makes you happy?
I was just wondering about this, I hope you don’t feel offended, because that is not the purpose of my question ❤

I think the point has been missed. For their culture, running the vineyard and the family business is an honor, not a "chosen path". It's embracing your heritage and culture and honoring your family by continuing on the tradition of running the family business. Only in America do we think we need to make all of these choices on our own for the sake of "having our own life". Maybe we could take some notes from these cultures and see that a happy life and also having our hopes and dreams can be achieved by staying with the family and running the business.
