    This is the best/clearest calibration explanation I have seen on youtube. Thank you. Just great!

    This is the 6th vid on calibrating a pH meter Ive watched and no one ever tests the calibration by testing the solutions after calibration is complete. Does anyone know how science works? We are doomed as a society.

    I have bought 2 off amazon that came with a tds meter... The tds on both set work well and are accurate. Both ph meters never work right. I calibrated them right, one would never work right at all it would only read 16.00 and 00.40. The 2nd took the calibration but never read right. It read the solutions right but never would read ph accurate. It was saying my tap was 6.13 and walmarts distilled being 8.83. Their distilled is 4.0

      Digital ph meter can't measure ph of pure distilled water because there are no ions in the solution for the sensor to work.

      I agree these pens are junk. I have a shelf full of ph pens and I still use the dropper method! these pens usually wont give the same read out twice in a roe with the same solution mix. Garbage product !!

      You only need to do it once. if you have an idea what the PH of solution you are going to test you can calibrate first with the powder nearest to it

      Mine did too, I removed the battery and cleared it. Then I calibrated in the 6.86, rinsed in clean distilled water then put it in the 4.01 solution pushed the calibration button then push it again to get it to 4.01 before the error shows up. Same with the 9.18 except you have to push the calibration button twice quickly to get to the 9.18 calibration. Had to play around with it for a while. Mine comes up with a end message after each calibration. I also found that if I held the button a little too long I got the error message. Pulling the top out with the battery seems to be the way to clear the error. If yours is hard wired to the battery compartment remove the batteries and reinstall them to clear the error.

  • @vincentmoges6775
    @vincentmoges6775 4 роки тому +1

    Hi @mpjaoline, I used tap water to dissolve the buffer powder. Is it an issue?
    I have the same PH meter as yours and never used it yet.
    After calibrating the PH meter, when it is left open it reads 0.00
    When it is in the 6.86 solution it reads 6.04
    When it's in the 4.01 solution it reads 4.03
    When it's in the 9.18 solution it reads 8.97
    When it is in tap water it reads 6.05
    Can I considered that the reading of my tap water PH level is accurate?
    If I am aiming 6.2 to 6.5 do I need to do anything ?

    • @greendesert69
      @greendesert69 4 роки тому

      umm of course it's an issue. tap water is a totally unknown ph. it could be anywhere from 6-8.5 ish
      you're supposed to use distilled water because that is a known exact ph
      that calibration is worthless with tap water.

      Is it off a constant 5ph or a random reading? Random is a bad sign; constant I think would be a bad calibration. Try cleaning the tip with distilled water and retry the calibration procedure.

    • @mpjaonline

      Yes distilled water to mix the solution is good and for cleaning the tip, The problem is if you try to measure the PH of pure distilled water is when you get inaccurate readings.

      Also, as importantly, if you believe the ph meter is off due to distilled water, simply buy a ph up and ph down blue and orange water kit and test it in the small vile they give you, cheap too. This way you know you’ve tested it two ways…it works great…..

      It comes from the factory calibrated. The data sheet states: Re-calibration is required in the following conditions: 1: lengthy period of inactivity 2: Very frequent use 3: Testing requirements is very high 4: The “cal” button was pushed and the electrode exposed to the air for extended period.
