  • Hey whatsup guys OSG here with another great full playthrough of and absolute cracking C64 game. Katakis is without a doubt the best shoot em up on the C64. Yeah it’s an R0Type Clone but when clones are better than the game they were copied off they are really special. The soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck is outstanding, the gameplay is smooth and enjoyable although the bosses are far too easy.
So sit back relax and enjoy the best c64 shoot em up Katakis full playthrough

I loved this game back when I was a kid. Great memories of Rainbow Arts games. This music is not so Hülsbeck as it may seem. ;)

Nice. All those games in the R-type style were great on C64. Delta was my personal favourite.

I loved this years ago ahhhh the memories of misspent hours and evenings after school and weekends playing this I can even remember I bought this game upstairs of the Northamptons Boots and it was in the sale bin for some reason as I remember my mate Mike being pee'd he hadn't seen it and it was just £2.99. Again you've made my night watching your videos. If no one else you've made me happy on numerous occasions. thanks so so much, Bran now I just gotta try and remember what level I got too?

I just remembered I bought Outrun too, anyone remembers having to write down the tape counter for each level and back then I thought it was amazing and discussing with my mates how close to the arcade they'd made it lmao.

@@brannenthompson9662 Haha everything was magical back then mate...we were on the cusp of technology and although looking back now we maybe weren't making good comparisons ...to us as kids we thought they were as good as the arcade. This katakis is on another level though and £2.99...wow what a bargain.

I got this for my C64 ‘way back when’ & it was called ‘Denaris’ which I am now guessing was due to a legal problem of some sort. The development team of Trenz, Escher & Huelsbeck made some amazing games for the C64.

  • @ctbullett300

Manfred Trenz without a doubt one of the best coders ever to grace the C64 and Amiga.
Add music by Chris Hulsbeck and you have the dream team.
Also know for Turrican, Giani sister and r-type.
Nice play though OSG, got your game face on !!

@@oldstylegaming yeah, i mean, i remember making it through once without using a life. But that´s why i liked it. I never had the patience for hard action games (or platformers for that matter - so yeah, "The Last Ninja" wasnt for me, for example.

I own this on tape and disk but under it's other name of 'Denaris', and other than a different title it's exactly the same game. I remember playing it loads back in the day as a kid, but I seem to recall not being that great at it, but do remember getting as far as the level with the circuitry graphics, and what awesome graphics they STILL are to this very day I might add. Well played that man :-D

I missed this as I bought my Amiga the same year, I played it on Amiga although it was called Denaris due to some legal issues. This looks awesome! It doesn't get much better than this does it? shit hot gfx and top tunes all through the generous 12 levels. Plus you can play team co-op I believe? The bosses look great and big! although they do seem a tad easy to defeat as you said, otherwise it's flawless. What a great team Manfred Trenz and Chris Huelsbeck made. Great vid m8, I'm off for a do.... oh, nice run :)

Huelsbeck's music to me is second only to Jeroen Tel as the best of the bunch of the latter musicians on the C64. His music from this and R-Type are top-notch

The theme from the final stage is plagiarized from 80's Chuck Norris flick 'Delta Force' (ua-cam.com/video/SQUeQOIlcDM/v-deo.html). Makes you wonder if he ripped off other stuff.

  • @gregster29

I have to disagree on this one. This game just didn't have the spark for me.
For me it's trying too hard to be better than R Type, and that's where it lets itself down. It's too busy, hardly any variation in the weapons, and once you've got the oversized orb on the front of the ship, then you can just waltz through to the end of each level and with a couple of blasts and destroy something that should be able to outwit you.
It wasn't good when it was first released, and it certainly hasn't aged well.

    • @oldstylegaming
      @oldstylegaming  4 роки тому +1

Hard? this is a really easy game.... like too easy. R-Type was more challenging than this but only had 8 levels...i love them both but this one is defo better Its Manfred Trenz proper R-Type. but i do get waht you say about the waltzing through the levels once you get the upgrade..there are maybe 2 or 3 levels that are a little bit hard. The music is what makes this game and the visuals too
