Great job Keith in record time in the heat! Thanks for your efforts! If you do not mind, can you walk through the calculation to determine per yard for the stone and the estimate breakout cost for the rock & border. I'm a novice not sure where to purchase the rock without getting taken advantage. Once again fantastic job and many thanks for the video!
It's a math problem. I multiplied the length in inches by the average width in inches then times 3 (depth of the rock) then divide by 12. The rocks are sold by the "yard" (approx. 3' x 3'). A yard is 9 square feet. Divide you total by 9 for the number of yards you will need. example: Length is 25'. The average width is 4'. The depth I want is 3" (.25'). 25' x 4' x .25' = 25 square feet / 9 = 2 3/4 yards. I got my stones from a local landscaping place. About $100 per yard. Thanks for watching.
I want to do the same. I think I may have it dumped in my subway on a tarp though so it closer lol wish I cld have them just drive up in the grass honestly lol
No maintenance?? How do you keep weeds and grass from growing in the beds? That ground cover will slow them down but rain will wash dirt and seeds in and the weeds & grass will grow. I'm thinking about converting to mulch.
The ground cover has worked very well. The rain doesn't wash any dirt or seeds into the area because I sloped the ground away from the house. The only issue is that the grass roots get under the edging once in a while and occasionally I have a weed or two. A quick trip around the house with Roundup every 2 or 3 weeks hits the spot. Thanks for watching.
I walk around the house every 2 - 3 weeks and hit the very few weeds that pop up with some Roundup. Don't pull them. Very happy with the look. It was a lot of work but well worth it. Much better than throwing down mulch every year and looks much nicer. Thanks for watching.
I paid about $100 per bucket (1 yard - 9 square feet). I did a sample math calculation to figure how much you need in a recent reply. Have fun. I did. Well, not really. Thanks for watching.
The drain runs under ground past the rocks and pops up in the grass. It's more for appearance than moving water away from the foundation. The rocks are for appearance also and they do eliminate any mud issues. Thanks for watching.
Oh man - I hate the rocks in my garden beds. Looks great for about a year and then nothing but a battle with weeds and it’s near impossible to pull the weeds with rocks - I’m finally after all these years going to GET THEM OUT. yet to find cover that keeps out weeds Never using rock again
Hi Keith, great video, great work. Looks like I'll be doing this very soon. May I ask if you remember about how much money this cost? Also if I call my rock guys I can just say 4 yards and they'll know that measurement?
James, scroll down in the comments and take a look at the math for figuring out how much stone you need. I paid about $100 per yard. Thanks for watching.
I had more brought in to do around the rest of the house. Definitely would have triggered you. I did have the area prepped though so I started moving the rock right away. Thanks for watching.
If you're going to dig up plants and then replant them once the weed control fabric is down like I did, then the fall when they're dormant is the time.
Overall it was maybe 6 hours of work. I removed the mulch, dug up the grasses, sloped the soil away from the house, laid down the weed control fabric, and replanted the grasses. Locally the rocks were about $105 per yard (1 cubic yard). It was 4 or 5 yards for that part of the house. Thanks for watching.
Keith....I COULD RELATE! Like you, I just spent the last two days filling in three curbed islands (one at 5 x 10 ft, one at 21 x 31ft and one at 5 x 63 ft) with 7 cubic yards of decorative rock. It is the hardest work known to man, I tell you! I had to work in 20 mph+ winds yesterday (So. Idaho area, near Twin Falls, ID).... Your front and side yard areas look great!
Beautiful..Add some bushes that have white flowers..
The season after I planted it, I thought it had died. Now it's 8' tall and thriving. More of a bush than a tree this far north. Thanks for watching.

@@keithwilkes7629 Many thanks for your quick response and detailed breakout. I greatly appreciate it and much gratitude to you!

Wow great job. Are u still happy with the rock? What kind of maintance have u done. I m probably going to do the same

Looks great! What was the overall cost range of this project? I am wanting to swap out my mulch for stone myself!

Hahaha, as a previous landscaper... I did that for 8 months.... And I was crying at the end. I'm a female 125lbs. It took me 3 years to recover.
That's exactly 💯 what I'm going too do for my beds, Very Very low Maintenance year around.
That's a lot of work...your yard looks nice.
I’ve seen lot of vidoes making a French Drain wouldn’t be good idea ?? To Install at ur yard ? And does the gravel help with keeping that area dry ?
The drain runs under ground past the rocks and pops up in the grass. It's more for appearance than moving water away from the foundation. The rocks are for appearance also and they do eliminate any mud issues. Thanks for watching.
Great work
That crate myrtle tree need to go to close to house. And the roots will never ever die.😮
Hello your yard looks amazing. What kind of rocks did you use?
3/4" Red Tipple. Thanks for watching.
What sort of fabric did you use to stop the weeds?
I used a week control fabric. Buy the good stuff. Thanks for watching.
What type of rock did you use? They look really good
Nothing is maintenance free
True. I go around the house every 2 or 3 weeks and hit the very few weeds or grass that pop up with Roundup. Thanks for watching.

Sorry to hear that. I used a good quality (thick) weed cover and rarely have a weed pop up. Thanks for watching.
Looks good
Did you use edging for the rock and grass divide? I did not see any of so what type ?
I use the black 4" edging with the rounded top. Thanks for watching.
Very nice and I like the color of the rock.
Where did you buy the rocks from?
Got them from the local landscaping type company that sells to the public. Thanks for watching.
What did you use to have the downspout going to the grass I want to do the same thing
Here's the video link: ua-cam.com/video/LxgIlmSvPY8/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.

crepe myrtle i never like it close to the house
At my latitude and climate it will never become a full grown tree. Just a large shrub. Thanks for watching.
For weed control aren't the stones covering the dirt enough?
There's weed control fabric under the stones. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful 👍
It's a lot of work but well worth it. Thanks for watching.
You should put some type of boarder around it to top it off. Looks good!
There is edging around the house to divide the rocks and grass. Thanks for watching.
i wanted to slap you silly for just dumping all that rock right there on the street
I had more brought in to do around the rest of the house. Definitely would have triggered you. I did have the area prepped though so I started moving the rock right away. Thanks for watching.
Where else should he put it? Lol. I'm in a new build community and we are all having rock/top soil/ etc delivered this way.
Can this be done in the fall?
If you're going to dig up plants and then replant them once the weed control fabric is down like I did, then the fall when they're dormant is the time.
How long did it take you to remove all the mulch and the preparation? And about how much did all the rocks cost?

Your front and side yard areas look great!
I did the other side last spring but didn't get to the video. Thanks for watching.
