@@Lovelyminidonuts AAVE is different than rural dialects here in the South, however they do share things in common. It's not called AAVE only due to who speaks it (as like you said, more than just AAs speak it) but also because of how the structure came to be. AAVE shares a lot in common with many African creole languages! I love it!

Tina C . BS, it's called broken English. I can talk that way if I want to but in the business world you better talk like you mean business if you want to be respected. Steve Harvey can get away with it because he is a comedian.

Laryan Ryan even in the business world, there are plenty of folks speaking broken English doing way the fucking damn well. English or no English, you don’t even need to talk to make money or trade goods. Shit just someone handing you something and someone hands you make something of equal value is enough. No words.
This whole speak perfect English is great and all but it doesn’t work in the real world.

What I've heard that nobody gives a s.hit to your grammar or such if you have high value in any other area that vast majority of the population is interested in, namely your wealth.
Unfortunately that vast majority generally value you not by your education, personality or virtue you have; but rather they value you by how much money you have and how good looking you are. Everyone lives the life that they deserve.

Didn't really make sense at that point to bring in a speech coach or linguist when Steve was already, obvi, successful enough to get to the point of being on TV. There's a large enough audience that speaks just like him and/or just doesn't care if a TV personality talks like that. It's part of what makes him funny sometimes.

    • @gatsbylight4766
      @gatsbylight4766 6 років тому +1

So, that's how low the bar is now? Just to be successful enough to just get to a _medium_ level of success? I thought the goal was to go as far as you could go; as high as you can go. Apparently he was successful enough to *get* on TV, but not successful enough to *stay* on TV. How successful do you think that Oprah would have been - or rather not been - if she was on that country grammar?
Obviously, bofe u ann Steve don't got no full recanition of how da game werk.

SECONDLY, _"why ain't I watchin' Oprah right now"?_ I can only hope, yet again, that you are not like so many others who are simple-minded to the extent that you confuse and conflate popularity with substance. Oprah was greatly popular, not greatly intelligent. Her success is measured by the the size of her audience, not the size of her intellect.

He gets to talk like this because hes a comedian. Had he auditioned as a straight host he'd never been hired he gets his jobs of off his comedic clout.

In other words, you are saying, it's good to encourage black people to remain ignorant in basic areas such as grammar?
Did you know that the average black man's IQ is only 83?
Blacks, especially Americans, are some of the least intelligent people in the world.

@@nativeamericancowboy5028 explain how following rules and IQ are related.
Also explain how a test to determine academic performance (IQ) accounts for all forms of intelligence.
On top of that, let me know how IQ can determine the intelligence of a person without that person's environment getting in the way. Take someone from Cameroon or central republic of Congo and place them in a actual school, nevermind a good school. See the results.
This focus on following rules is insane, when the point of it all is good communication. If one can understand another, who cares?
Of course, having good grammar is good for securing and keeping a job.

@@nativeamericancowboy5028 you seem to misunderstand my statement, so I'll contextualize it:
If you take someone black from the Southside of Chicago, poor, ghetto, or whatever buzzword you can think of, and throw them into a upper class black neighborhood in Atlanta, do you think their IQ would stay the same? If not, why do you use IQ in such a way that describes intelligence as a race trait or in other words, something predisposed or genetic?
My post goes after IQ and your attempt to make some correlation between it and grammar.

@@James-pb8xu it's well known that blacks are intelligent when it comes to sports and music, however, when it comes to community building, advanced math, and advanced science, they appear to fall short, compared to their European and Oriental counterparts.
