The Puppet Masters, as I recall, were slug-like, rather than the flat, flying pancakes of the Trek counterparts. They also were defeated in a completely different way; with biological warfare using monkeys as carriers, rather than the ultraviolet light attack projected from orbiting satellites. Also, the creatures simply possessed their hosts, even using their memories and skills without the intense pain that the Trek flying parasites did to coherence their victims into doing their bidding.
I had this book I loved it.

Star Trek also owes Heinlein for The Tribbles. The Tribbles are very much like Heinlein’s flat cats from his novel, The Space Family Stone.
I still have my copy of the updated edition (the one pictured in the video still-shot) which has some pictures of the cast from The Motion Picture.
