  • The voiceover industry is experiencing significant changes due to the rise of AI and ongoing strikes.
    However, there are still opportunities for human voice actors in certain genres.
    Audiobooks, e-learning, animation/video games, and commercials are hot genres that continue to rely on human narrators. On the other hand, telephony/IVR, simple narration, and audio description/localization are not as in-demand and are being taken over by AI.
    To navigate this changing landscape, voice actors should diversify, continuously learn, embrace technology, build relationships, create their own content, and stay adaptable.
    Takeaways:
    The demand for audiobooks and human narrators is high, despite AI's presence.
    E-learning and educational content offer plenty of voiceover work.
    Animation and video games still rely on real human actors for character voices.
    Commercials value authenticity and trust, making human voice actors essential.
    Telephony/IVR, simple narration, and audio description/localization are being taken over by AI.
    Voice actors should diversify, continuously learn, embrace technology, build relationships, create their own content, and stay adaptable.

    Thanks for the surprise shout-out, Paul! I so appreciate that! I was very amused by the way the transcript spelled my name when that happened. Made me laugh out loud. 🤣 I always learn a lot from your content so keep up the great work!

    Audiodramas! Audio dramas baby! I'm hoping that since so many people are listening to podcasts and scary stories, hopefully there will be a bigger market for more story-based/character-based podcasts. I'm starting to see them more and more.
    Also Character Dubbing is becoming super 🔥 and Netflix is the leading player of international entertainment. So there is a high demand for VO talent that can do Dubbing.

      Audio dramas are indeed very hot as for dubbing, I’m not as optimistic long-term.

    Great, inspirational video as always Paul! Not only does knowing multiple VO genres keep you diversified, but the skills in one genre can absolutely help in another!
    I'm a production manager for radio stations as my main gig, freelance VO on the side (for now). I get Commercial VO practice daily (and have a coach for performance & airchecking). But I also took Marc Cashman's Audiobook class recently. You best believe I learned some gold nuggets that a) help with the audiobook game, b) also helps with my job/commercial work. Great storytelling helps with ads.

    In most cases, it takes me longer to edit and correct AI recordings than it would to simply record them myself- Here in the Sacramento area, many places are named or called "Placer" (Placerville, Placer County, etc.) as it is a common type of gold mining in the nearby Sierra and a big part of local history; Naturally, those not familiar with it often pronounce it "Play-ser" which makes sense, so AI does that also, but it's pronounced "Plasser", so, if we were to use IA, would have to go in and do the mundane and time consuming chore of manually editing the script to read as "Plasser" then change the word back, as the script hard copy is also available for many the audio tours we do. This is just ONE example of many!

      Thanks for dropping that Real World example. I only works if it truly saves people time and money. For those shops were quality matters, it’s not doing either. Thanks for watching and for the helpful case study.

    Does Promo VO fall under the "Commercial" category?

    • @vo-pro
      @vo-pro  3 місяці тому +1

      No, but I think of all the genres, promo may be the last to be affected by AI.

    How do you get into e learning and educational training? I don’t see many videos about this category.

    • @vo-pro
      @vo-pro  3 місяці тому

      You get trained and e-learning and educational training, then you reach out to those buyers. In that regard, it’s no different than any other genre

    I can't suffer through AI-generated audiobooks; I turn it off. My guess is, though that this will be the first domino to fall. It appears way too easy for a writer/editor to spend $20 and 10 min. and be done with it.

      It’s already happening, but ultimately, as I said, the only ones who will go this route or the ones who don’t care or have zero budget.
