I watch a lot of guys working on cars here on UA-cam, and I look forward to your uploads the most. Great work, as always!
Thank you very much
Mee tooooo
No better way to start the day than watching you and Mabel on Sunday morning, the scuff plates look awesome nothing better than original if you can save em. thanks for sharing.
thank you
Skuff plates are original and likely rare - well worth the effort. Excellent outcome.
Word. I can't believe how nice they look after the cleanup.
Thanks 👍 certainly not perfect but good enough for who their for
@@Theoldironworkshop You and the Queen rock!
You're not allowed to put the glass in yourself. The Queen yelled at you the last time you did that. 😅
Yes that’s because she knows my history
I love the car stuff but you and your wife are the pure entertainment. You guys are amazing.
Thanks 👍
I've watched every one of this build and it's by far the best hotrod show on youtube. Love the humour, very informative and inspiring. Greetings from the UK
Wow, thanks! I honestly have no idea what I’m doing. I’m really winging it day by day. But I really appreciate that.
sill plates is what i've always known them as. let's go with that.😂😂
Great work getting the glass in. The skuff plates look awesome.
Busty's looks like a pretty cool place to hang out.
Kinda wish I hadn't made a mudder out of my hearse. Oh, well. Live and learn.
Take care.
A friend of mine is wanting me to build a 4 x 4 out of one.
And yes, bustys is pretty darn cool
@@Theoldironworkshop Outstanding!
@@Theoldironworkshop It's a blast! Definitely a head turner.
Very nice work on the Skuff plates And installing the window stainless steel and glass The Bar looked pretty Neat
Yeah, the bar is super cool. It was a step back in time. Kind of reminded me of going to Denny’s in the early 80s.
It's wild how a car goes from "long term project" to "looks like a car again" just by installing glass, even more so on the curved glass cars in the late '50s. Sill/scuff plates look great, love the S/S logo, well worth the labor involved in bringing them back.
It’s the little things for sure
You've got some skills sir. I'm loving this build, can't wait to see it finished!
me too
the perfect sunday morning viewing here in Australia .. thank you Team Anderson for another outstanding video.
cheers 🍻🤘
Our pleasure! Thank you
Nice work putting in front windshield chrome trim
Yeah, that was a real challenge.
Another great video 😊
Thanks
I like the idea of the foot pedal for the shrinker stretcher.
Thank you, I built that thing probably 20 years ago definitely a lot more functional.
Really nice job cleaning up those old kick panels and the new ones look great. Nice job getting those back windows in the Caddy too. Thanks for sharing your skill. LL
Thanks 👍
A tip for future cleaning of hopeless aluminum pcs. I use purple cleaner. Be careful it will remove paint if left on too long. It will clean it up without scratching or using abrasive material. I spray the piece with clear and most of the time looks presentable. 👍
You have never tried the purple cleaner. Although I like the idea of spraying it with clear. But I’m half attempted to try and buff them.
Making great progress. Lots done, lots more to do.😊
Yes! Thank you!
It's coming back to life no pun intended cheers from the UK
Resurrected from the dead. I wonder how long this thing sat in that field before it was rescued.
Oh my gosh I love this project it is going to be so sweet
Thank you
Love your 40. We took Edna down the drag strip at Shadyside Dragway last week during Steel in Motion. Slowest truck there lol
Ha is that why they call you too slow Joe
@Theoldironworkshop well at least she's pretty to look at lol. All show and no go
Great talent you have both. It’s going to be a wild ride. Many spirts in these cars. Probably will meet them as you drive it. I gareentee. The jokers I call them. 👍👍😂
Oh yes, also known as the gremlins
From my perspective the Cadilac Shamu is being expertly massaged to her former self. I must admit, however, I am not an Orcathologist. Much respect for both your talents. Cannot wait to see her released back into the wild.
Well said!
"The dashboard was quite an undertaking" Ha ha ha.
It getting closer and looking good
Thanks
Back sill plates turned out great.
So far anyway
Nice to see the progress !
Thanks!
Your channel is the best on you tube, great work!
Wow, thanks!
The hearse commin together just quite nice. Keep on working, its gonna be incredible after you've done with it.
Thanks, will do!
Mr. Anderson, Sometimes I think I'm a Scuff Plate ! 👊😎👍

Thanks 👍
12.32 am in Australia and I seen you had just posted this episode… the dynamic duo do it again 🦸♂️🦹♀️
Just like Batman and Robin or maybe Thelma and Louise depends how you look at it
@@Theoldironworkshop I’m looking at it like Batman and Robin at the moment . 🤔 We’ll have to see how it drives before we give it over to Thelma & Louise 😆
bustin my balls this morning!! Trying to watch college football when you just popped up!! LMAO!! watch this on Sunday my guess!!
Your team is probably gonna lose anyway
Thanks for sharing, always interesting!
thanks
Be careful brother not to get burn out . Looks like you need to take Baby to the Galveston Island beach for some night life and beers , lounge chairs , and a open fire near the waves before the weather at night become too cold . Time to spoil here from having to sit at that sowing machine so long . lol
Yes, I’m definitely feeling the pain of the burnout
Yea, a video every 3 weeks is tiring. 😅
great job looking awesome
Thank you! Cheers!
yo HI again from the D Mi 😎 hey thanks for sharing another great video update with the Caddy 👍🤩💖😎
thanks
Nice work! Great content! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much for watching
That hump on the scuff plate is also where you hide the ends of the windlass on each end!
Oh. I didn’t realize that. We’re making that right now.
When I worked at the BMW plant they were called scuff plates
But what was it in German?
@@Theoldironworkshop I never could understand those guys lol
@@Theoldironworkshop Scheiße I believe.
Top stuff mate! Will be on the road in no time cheers Z.

Great video and nice job on the glass. I put the winshield of my 62 Comet in by myself, was hideous and so was the stainless trim that I also di after the fact.
Thank you. And Yes the stainless it no fun. I didn’t even realize I didn’t put it on until someone commented on it.
At 35:38 I blew beer thru my nose all over my screen. Love your video quality as well as your content,,,,,and your lovely wife. I hope you two make it to Howell one way or the other, dinner is on me !!
Now that is hilarious
Thx great work love it
I'm glad you like it
I should check out Busty's next time I'm in town.
Totally
For the windshield trim i ve used vaseline works very nice and lub the seal in same time, by the way good job in this bad boy!
Thanks for the tip!
Progress! Heard some SCOTS too!
Fried chicken and gasoline
How do you do both of you
Oh and I watch all lol
I found out today people on UA-cam are celebrity type of folk
Congratulations to you and your wife lol
Well, I wouldn’t go as far as really calling anybody a celebrity. However, it is interesting to be recognized by people. I had somebody recognize me when I was in Jamaica. That definitely threw me off.
@@Theoldironworkshop I would be honored to meet you some day.
I could spot you.
A drink in each hand lol
I would even buy you a drink
Take care sir
Not bad with the glass. Although some liquid butyl or auto glass glazing compound sealant would have been a good idea. Originally they used putty. Typically the gasket alone won’t hold all the water out. It’s a little messy to do it that way. That’s why most people skip this step. The vehicle is coming together nicely. Always look forward to the next video on her.
I’ve never actually heard of that
@@Theoldironworkshop I’ve been an automotive glazier for more than 30 years. My father was an automotive glazier for 45 years. We have be restoring, customizing, and overall fans of classic American vehicles for decades. Glass was just how we made the vast bulk of our income. I’m not trying to be a know it all by any means. I respect you and your work. Just offering some advice one gearhead to another.
No problem. That’s the great thing about YT. It’s all about sharing knowledge. I’ve learned a lot of things on here. By no means do I have any idea what I’m doing. So input is always appreciated
Yeah that's is a problem remembering where all the small pieces have been put when going back together with a project like this
I tell you what videotaping everything was genius. I went back and reviewed a few different things. Because I simply cannot remember.
Have you thought about looking into a "Laser Etcher"? It'll help with doing those little designs you want to put on the Aluminum / Metal. It's really cool to, the Wife'll like it as well. 😁😁
i was going to look into it. i think thats a good idea
On the steps to a hearse, I recall seeing an aluminum step guard holding the carpet (the same as used in a house). They would serve the same function, covering and holding the carpet in place. Other hearses had wood, usually dark wood or black panels, also edged with the same type of corner guards. The wood and corner guards were used not just on the steps, also the inner rear wheel-well covers with built-in storage compartments used around the casket area, including the floor. So that should work for your purposes too, if you wanted that look?
The front came out great.
Thanks. I need a seat back there so probably no room for storage
It's so close to being water tight, that's exciting. Also it may be regional, I've always heard them called sill plates. It's a week for big things, I got the donor bumper and fender fit to my 66 hearse yesterday.
sweet, is it a driver yet?
@Theoldironworkshop yep, runs and drives after being neglected for 30 plus years.
Bling Bling. I don’t think I ever told you about my hearse I bought in 1986. In 🇬🇧. I was 25 years old and I just got my first American ride. 1957 Chevy Rag Top. It was a dream come true. Mint condition. I tell you the story on that one day. Dam cool story. Smugglers car. So I put a advert in the local free rag. Wanted American cars. Cash paid. Any condition. A lady called me up. Said I got a car from our business it’s Black and long. Come have a look. I arrive . She takes me to a lock up out back. It was a 1966 Galaxie 500 station wagon. 390 big block. Full coffin bed in back. Mint condition. Been sitting for 15 plus year
She was a cool lady. They owned a funeral business and this one did it’s time. She virtually give it to me. Me and my buddy showed up with Levi’s white tee shirt and rockabilly haircuts. In the 57. We took her for a ride she as a Blast. I do believe we put a battery on the Galaxie and it fired up. I took it for its safety test. It failed on one track Rod end. It was a Sleek looking car. Low and sleek flower rack on top.
Wow that super cool. What did you ever do with it?
@@Theoldironworkshop well from my advert the gates open. People got all kinds of cars stashed away in English Garages. That are only good to fit a mini in. iE you coming out the windows when they in there. 😂. So I drove it for a while. It was heavy on fuel at English prices. And I had the fifty seven. But we would go to a weds night meet down the local pub. Good little meet. A few pints. I told my buddy’s put your blues Brother suit on. So now we three up in the Galaxie. Black shades and suits.
But I’d been driving this car around for a few weeks and every time I went past the grave yard the glove box door would fall open. At first I didn’t connect it. Then I figured it out. So I picked up my buddy’s in there suits for the meet. And I told them. When I drove past this grave yard the door is going to fall open. They said I was full of crap. I said check the door make sure it was solid. They did and it was. A bang on key it fell open at the gates. The two of them scrambling to get over the bench seat into the back where the coffin bed awaited them. I laffed all night long. And still lagging 38 years later. But it was a hit at the meet. Never been seen before. Every body wanted pictures. And the Boys told the Storie and Emery don’ body told them they full of Crap😂😂😂😂
I sold it to this guy that played in a local band. Called Canker Opera. I used to roady for them. They had a recording contract but I can’t find no music. Anyways he was a goth type and put purple crushed velvet on interion. Not head lining . Just back sides. Looked good with the coffin bed and rollers.
When I retired I bought two adobe houses on five acres of horse ranch type..., stuff and things. I was wise to buy a lifetime supply of Elbow Grease. I see you have the same supplier. 😆
Or better known as nondirectional ambition
Scuff plates turned out great... Pat yourself on the back .
thank you ill have a cold one in my honor
thanks man
We’re wasting your time watching this nonsense, absolutely.
Hi guys, great video as always...Bustys looked superb, don't have anything as cool here in the UK I'm afraid, did have drunken dad's though back in the day haha...oh ...Lee...you really did forget to paint under the front screen trim just as you said ...😂
oh the memories, now i understand why he drank
You where scaring me to death ,watching you and your wife putting in that back window and the side class. My wife kept asking me what was i watching and i showed her you and your wife doing that and she said i had better never ask her to do that because she said no way would she help me do that. I tried doing a windshield in a 69 we had and i got it almost done and i pushed alittle to hard in a corner and it cracked. Thanks for your time and the videos i always look forward to watching to see how things are going.
thank you very much. yes i have broke a few of them
good bit of progress...you could get those "scuff plates" laser etched with the same patterns in the alli, or you could stencil it..just a thought
Sharpie it on
Be great if you could get some history & maybe even pictures of a bygone age of a funeral presession with your Hearse in it when it was operational.
i was looking. all i found was a article on the funeral home.
It uses the SOS pads or it gets the hose!!! lol
Offset hole to the right as front hole is offset to left
Just doesn’t look right
you can etch a pattern into the aluminum scuff plates.
Black silicon. Squirt on back. Anchor down front. Skirt itbon back. It comes through the drilled holes
IDEA: Maybe get the rear door sill CNC etched onto a piece of aluminium. Then smear & wipe some blacking to colour the holes. The lip could be deleted from the rear if desired, that would be hardly noticed.
Yeah, I didn’t put any thought into laser etching. But I could darn her perfectly match the back to the front. That’s definitely worth looking into it.
I wonder if you could get one of those laser engraver guys to make a similar pattern on the rear scuff plates without it costing your right nut
Great looking sill, scuff, kick plates man, I love the cleaned up garbage way better that recreated especially on Mabel! What does the wife charge to install the glass? Stay cool man!!
There are 2 major milestones on these car projects. (A) getting the car in primer and/or (B) getting the glass in. This car didn’t have to be painted so glass installation it is. The finish line is out there, just barely out of sight.
We’re currently painting the dash and upholstering the seat this week. After that it’s all about getting it running
I call them sillplates. In many GM parts books they are called that way.
when putting rubber seals on windows as you pull the rope you should be doing a circle motion as you pull it helps move the rubber out to the other side
intresting thanks probaly have to try that next time
@@Theoldironworkshop thanks for replying
Are you going to paint the beast? If so, wouldn't it be better to do that first? I guess it's too late now. Never mind. I need a beer...
Nope, gonna leave it patinaed. It will go with Laura‘s house. Which we have yet to procure one day though.
LoL don't know what it is about those scuff plates, but this old fellar right here had an OCD moment while watching this video. Thinking about how they made the embossing on them and why it was so much embossing, how could it be done at home? Just couldn't stop looking at them when you were cleaning the front ones and making the back ones. Never had that to happen to me watching a video b/4. Now that the video is over it ain't got my attention anymore. Your stuff is pretty good to watch, much success with your builds.
Thank you very much. It’s always a battle of what to put in the video. Trying to keep it interesting is a challenge but still showing a process
Scotchbright in the palm sander eh? Me likey
works wonders
one other thing is never hit the glass with the palm of your hand, always with your full flat hand.
Like the sill plates, the og are great and yours are cool. Last windshield i did cracked the first time. I hate cars.
i second that thought
Who’s Marty? Made me laugh 😂
inside joke
You call them, Scuff Plates. I call them, Ankle Bitters.. Back and side windows installed. some windshield chrome too. go and have a couple of beers.
SOS Pads to the rescue.
Go to a breakers yard and get two rear plates from a four door model of the same year
Won’t fit. Too short
😊❤
I talked to Marty.....he said it's not true. 🤷
Just don’t be in the dark with him
I would have left the inner lip. It an attachment point and is supposed to be covered by the carpet
Yes but it was rotten
Door sill also
Autosol works great on that material. I did a set of aluminum rims and it made a big difference.
Nice title :) Marty comment below LOL! Doesn't someone make a punch set for those screw hole beads? I suppose chrome washer trim screws is easier, cheap & close enough. Car's looking good though, getting the glass in is a big deal. Are your dash gauges messed up / need to be sent out or can they be just cleaned up? I don't recall. Anyway, though you guys have an endless list to do, you're get close to champagne day and it'll be glorious. :)
There’s a shop called hammer fab that actually makes that set. He calls him the crater maker. But I don’t believe they’re that small. I’ll have to hit them up one of these days.
Come on man !!! touch your face what's a little kiss of death between friends. Member its getting close to Halloween . Have you tried those polish bars (they come in different colors ) they polish the rims & gas tanks on Riggs. They seem to work pretty good on aluminum. I heard a time or 2 that these plates were also called strike plates don't know why but O well.
No way.
Sill plates
I thought sill plates was the right word but I'm probably wrong
Whenever I don’t know something I just ask my wife. She seems to know everything
Black resin. Make the plates drill the holes the same as the one you have.
Press the plate on the black resin.
