I'm really surprised that you were able to mount tubeless tires on the stock wheels. All the comments I have read from other owners have said that they weren't able to get the stock wheels to seal and ended up getting new TR wheels. Did the bike shop mount the new wheels for you? Just curious as to what rim tape was used to get a successful tubeless setup. I have the Ramblas on order and can't wait to start riding it. You should do a weight comparison between the stock and upgraded setups. I know that getting rid of the coil fork and innertubes can save some weight. I have also heard that the wheelset is pretty heavy as well. Thanks for the updated videos.
All the upgrades was done at my local bike shop. I am not sure what they used but they did say that the flatout helped seal the tires. Since these are e-bikes, I never really concern myself with the weight of things but since the other Ramblas is stock, I can see how big or little weight difference is.
Scott, thanks so much for putting this video together and sharing it. I suspicioned with a little rim tape of Gorilla take that the rims could be set up tubeless. Awesome! Curious, did you happen to check the weight difference between the bike with your upgrades vs without? You probably lost a couple with the fork, perhaps a wee bit going tubeless (but the new tires probably negate that), break even on the dropper post swap. I realize this is heresy, but I’ve watched a couple of other Ramblas videos, in addition to your. In all of them, when the reviewer rode the bike, the Ramblas motor could definitely be heard and had a bit of a whine to it. Curious which you feel is the quieter of your bikes - the Velotric or the Ramblas.
I have not weighed the difference between the two. Luckily, I have a stock version I can compare it to. There is whine with the mid drive motor but I don't mind it. The Summit is quieter and currently my daily rider, but the Ramblas would be my first choice for the trails.
I have mentioned before, you are the reason that I got my Ramblas, after viewing all your great reviews I made the decision to get this amazing e-bike, zero regrets. Now I decided to upgrade the stock rims and tires…need your comments on my decision: Hunt E-Enduro Wide 29 (was on sale for a crazy low price) and a set of Vittoria e-Agarro Trail 2.60 ….. my decision was based on a lot of research as I did not want to make any booboos. What are your thoughts my friend! Thank you
Since this video, I have also upgraded to the hunt wheels for one of my Ramblas's. The other is pretty much stock. I like 2.5" tires but that is personal preference. I don't think you can go wrong and I appreciate the support!
I have a quick question on the wheels and the fork. Are the wheels SRAM XD compatible? I am thinking of getting a pair of HUNT TRAIL wide wheels and I wanted to make sure I get the right ones. They also have Shimano HG and Shimano Microspline. Is the fork at 44mm Offset ? Thanks in advance Great videos on the RAMBLAS....kEEP them coming.
Since this video, I have installed the Hunt Wheels with Crush Cores. These are the specs on my wheels. HUNT Freehub E M42 6x1 Shimano HG/Sram HUNT E_All Mountain 29 Wheelset - 29" (6 bolt) / Shimano/SRAM HG Splined / Boost - Limited Stock Please note, I do not know the fork offset for the stock fork since these went on my Fox 34.
Hey Scott. Nice video. Did you make the original non-tubless ready rims tubleless just by using rim tape and vlave stems? The rims hold the tires on the bead? Have you ridden it some miles to test out?
Yes I did. Rim tape and valve stems. Yes, so far the bead has not split. I have not ridden it much since doing this test and I have the tires at 45psi. I will be riding them around 30psi on the trails. Good idea to get some mileage on them first to see if they hold.
about to pull the trigger on this, just waiting on support feedback. They are offering it with electronic shifting. Trying to get a commuter rack and fenders added on instead of accessories they offer and Im sold.
I am on the website and I do not see where electronic shifting is an option. Plus, this bike does not have any factory fenders and the rear rack is a thrid party rack. Where are you seeing this?
I went with tubeless rims and similar tires, carbon fiber handle bars.. Bout 500.00. Hope to hear feed back on the shocks. I'm really loving and surprised of the feel of the spring shocks but I'm about 170 lbs. Let me know your thoughts on the fancy new shocks !
Scott, one of the upgrades I am considering (being 5'6") is to get the handlebars changed out (or adding an adjustable stem). Any thoughts on that or recommendations? I feel currently TOO aggressive leaning forward & putting a lot of weight on my hands, so my hands get numb quicker because of my forward-lean. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
I get that. Not sure if you are on Facebook but there is an Aventon Ramblas group where others have done just that. I would join that group as someone was asking about that today. People have been switching out stems and bars.
I went with the MMX PNW dropper lever to keep the clean cockpit look. Why put the clamp on there? Went with the Hunt e bike wheels on sale Memorial Day. 389.00. Went tubeless also with 2.6 Vittoria ebike Agarros. Fox 34 shock 150mm. Pnw carbon bars. I shaved 6 lbs off stock weight. Now you can lift that front end when needed. Mudrocker front fender. More coverage that works. Your bike looks good.
I went with the clamp because I like mine to sit back farther than what the MMX setup could. Sounds like you got a great deal on wheels. Actually, I think my forks are 140mm instead of the 130mm that I posted. Thanks for telling me about your build!
Not understanding this - at it's current price of $3k+ (with tax) you sank another $1700 into it? You can get a full suspension mid drive and have a real eMTB for that - particularly if you can find a 2023 leftover.
Yup. Just wanted to pimp it out for my son when he goes riding with me. Plus, this makes good content and is also a tax write off. I have a real eMTB... its my Giant Trance X E+3.
Just curious, but, with what you spent on the upgrades, you could have gotten all that and more on some full suspension e-mtb's. Knowing that, would you still buy the Ramblas, spending closer to $3k now and spending as much as you did on upgrades when you could buy a full-suspension, full power e-mtb for the same or, in the case of Gas Gas, much lower? I bought the Cannondale Moterra Neo 3 with the Bosch Smart System for under $4k, and now there are a lot more that you can get for under $4k that are stacked. You could get a nice Gas Gas, which is serviceable at a lot of Husquavana dealers around the country, for right around $3k now. A lot of the big traditional names (Giant, Rocky Mountain, etc) have come out with full suspension, full power e-mtb's under $4k in the last 2 months or so.
I understand your question. I already have a nice Giant full suspension bike and wanted to see what I could with this hardtail. Plus, this is content for my channel that gives people ideas on what they can do their bike if they want. It doesn't hurt that this is all a tax write off for me in the long run.
TBH this seems like a more fair review of the Ramblas from you than the actual review. You really like the Ramblas but you didn't care for some $1000 worth of major parts that it came with.
@@scotthardesty understood, I really want a MTB-ish eBike with proper (full featured) suspension fork and other reliable parts, ability to handle rocks, 29x3 offroad tires, comfortable seats, to ride mostly offroad for under $5K CAD or $3K USD. Based on this review, it sounds like Ramblas not quite there, even if I convince myself of the lower width tires. Thanks for your excellent reviews and thorough testing. I love your genuine efforts.
Seems a bit overkill for the ramblas. Cool to see what's possible for sure, but I feel like spending 3/4 of the bike's cost on upgrades is a bit silly. Don't get me wrong I love my Ramblas but there's limits when that money could go into the next bike. It's about the rider after all not the equipment.

This is the link to fork I got, it should have all the info you are looking for. tinyurl.com/sjuebr77

I would have put a suspension seat post on as part of the upgrades.
Since I only put this bike on the trails, I would much rather have a dropper seat post.

It's really too bad that Aventon and Velotric don't build a true full suspension mtb. I'm confident they would be competitive in the emtb market.
