I think it would have been easier to put the purple one with the letters cut out onto a white heart then just place the centers of some the letters where they belong.
The reason I didn’t do it the way you suggested is because I didn’t want the purple cardstock layer to be raised above the white cardstock. Gluing the letters into the openings makes the cardstock layers even.
