Yes, Philadelphia Mills was recently sold. Simon Property Group, the previous owner, handed over the mall to its debtholders this summer due to a $290 million loan that was due in June. This change in ownership could potentially lead to a redevelopment of the mall. What happened here is emblematic for the nation. REIT gets management by taking a loan to buy the property, they can't lower rents because they have to recognize losses, eventually they reach a point where the bubble no longer breaks even and they declare voluntary bankruptcy and move the practice to the next property
Hell yeah captain I am so dame happy your channel is back I love your videos I have learned a lot I have anxiety and depression I know we don't know each other but if you ever need to talk I am here for you brother
The mall is now called Franklin mall managed by a company called JLL I don’t believe they own it but are managing the property. If you go back again they completely took off the Philadelphia mills mall sign at entrance 3.
You didn't mention anything about the Home and Design Center. I think Odd Lots is there now. There was a whole strip of stores related to home improvement. Hechinger was the anchor. There was a real house in the middle of the strip where you could walk through it, and get ideas from the new products installed in the house.
I went here around 1994 or 1995 to my brother's indoor traveling soccer match which was (I think) in the same parking lot as Franklin Mills, so we took a tour inside the mall when we were there. Any idea if that indoor soccer facility used to be the LA Fitness or something else (it had a pretty cool arcade there at the time, with a Capcom 1994 Alien v. Predator game). I forget the name of the venue.
Here we are! We're going on a scoot! You sound like you are starting to feel a little better. We hope you are. Good vibes your way and thank you for the videos.
I was a mall kid growing up in the 70's and 80's. Plymouth Meeting and KoP Plaza were my old hangouts. Sad to see these malls being bought up and left to rot. Thanks Amazon. Great video, BTW.
I was painting Franklin Mills in 1989, 49th St. Galleria and the failed, defunked bowling alley. I worked for a union shop and they didn't want us shopping at CarreFour. We did anyway.
Me and my friends were caught shoplifting in car four. They were sweating us out waiting for the head of security to show up. When he showed up he looked at one of my girlfriends and said dammit your brother is the goalie of my hockey team get the hell out of here. True story.. it was fun to be young.😈🤣
I worked at Pharmor on cottman Ave... they closed in 2002. My sister worked at the Franklin Mills location before transferring to the Cottman Ave Location.
I was thinking for a little while that the Franklin Mills site would be a spot for the Sixers new arena. It's probably not going to happen now but Franklin Mills is pretty much dead now. So I was thinking obviously they knock some of mall down and they build the arena and you build hotels up there in that area and restaurants and revitalize the whole thing. But I guess that's not going to happen.
Good Morning Cuz!! Only went to Franklin Mills a handful of times. Actually, it was when I was working for Pennsylvania Pay TV...before cable came to the city. Thanks Captain 😊
Franklin Mills used to be a Simon mall, but as of this year, Simon is in talks to relinquish ownership of the mall. That's why the Simon signage has been removed.
THERE YOU ARE! Love your channel! I grew up in wissinoming (by sullivan school), moved to the NE in the late 80s (across woodhaven from the then Carrefore. Man, things have changed up there. I moved to Florida over 20 years ago. It'd be cool if you had a had a small map at the bottom of the video showing where ya are... Keep up the great work.
12:30 Its a blessing that churchs like that dont pay taxes... im a member of that church, and we have money problems... they just had to replace the three AC units on the roof. 200,000 dollars.
Hey Capt. they changed the name to Phila Mall but u r right Liberty Bell race was the name my friends and I went to a Conert there in Aug. of 1981 we seen the Police, The Go Gos and Oingo Biongo and two other no so good groups but it was a great conert from what I can remember, u know how the 80s were. Lol
Born and raised in Cherry Hill NJ, right next to the Cherry Hill Mall. When I was a kid I went to the Franklin Mills Mall. lol good old days. Pathmark lmao lol
My south Jersey car washing routine: I rinse off the vehicles in the spring during pollen and bird feces season (May 1st to July 4th) when and if I cut the lawn. The rest of the year (July 4th through May 1st of the following year) I turn over vehicle washing to mother nature. The inside of the vehicles are the way they came from the dealer (one vehicle is 9 years old). Sometimes in the winter I will clean a small spot on the windshield to see out of the because my vape juice sticks to cold windows. I should vacuum the 4 Runner, the back is covered in peat moss but since it's not on the driver's seatI don't consider it a biggie so I doubt I ever will vacuum it up. (I blow the peat moss away from the latch, shut the tail door and forget about it).
Man, I miss the old days..first opened in 89, into the mid, late 90s of this massive mall, also the CompUSA that was in another small plaza across from the CarWash/former Pathmark. Always found decent goodies for my old computer, other gadgets. I have found a LOT of damn good deals at the Dicks Sporting Good's Warehouse store, especially during the Holidays. I have to head back there soon. I was just there last Sunday for the weekly flea market. I actually miss that Flea Market when it was at Roosevelt Mall.
went to franklin mills mall a few times when i was a kid. it was the coolest mall in the philadelphia/new jersey area that i knew of as a child. this is just depressing. that food court has seen much better days.
Carrefour used to be one of the local spots for Hot Rods. When Carrefour was there we used to hang out in the parking lot, I think it was late Sunday nights. Everyone from the area used to bring their cars out, not the same thing as those stupid take overs that you see today, much more respectful & peaceful. I wonder what happened?
My mom loved going to outlets so during their fist visit down from CT after this mall opened we went up there, don't think we bought anything that day, never went back again.
This used to be a great destination mall 25 years ago. Last time I went was right after Sandy. I took the bus there and realized how bad everything had gotten.
When you went around the building i got scared for you but i still want to see what is there. I really enjoy your videos, you go the same places i would go if i were on my bike and still young. I always wanted to ride around this area and the parking lots and buildings. I didn't go here to often the last times i was at that mall Raven or Sandman from ECW was there doing greet and meet. Galaria had a Gravitron wow that's awesome i didn't know that. Do you know the history of The Shoppes at Flowers Mill?. I grew up riding by there a lot driving to my aunt and uncles house and i always wanted to see that area. I always thought there were more stores that use to be there. I know there is not much there now maybe you know some history of the older stores that use to be there. There is no other videos of The Shoppes at Flowers Mill on UA-cam im not surprised cause its just a strip mall i always thought there were more stores there, maybe there use to be in the 80's when we would drive by don't remember. I'm always intrigued by desolate looking trails or dirt roads always wondering what's down there.
I worked there for 6 years from the day the mall opened. The shape is supposed to resemble a train wreck, so you have to keep moving to see what's around the next corner.
Haven't been here since it was called Franklin Mills but the Polo, Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Nautica, and Guess stores have been there since the 90s and still seem to be holding on. Among the few original stores there that are still around. I enjoyed your Spirit Halloween visit 😂😂! I don't hate Halloween but I never been a fanatic about it either. I'm pretty meh about it.
I always wanted to go to carrefour but my family were union workers and we weren't allowed wanted to see the people on their roller skates and I'm pretty sure the racetrack used to be called Keystone they had great carnivals there in the summer
Captain, how's come there is so much undeveloped property behind Life Storage? There is no park or anything back there? I am surprised it is not developed in that area.
Not the gate at the Burlington...thats very recent. there are too many animals in that damn mall. There used to be a starbucks right in front of that burlington and it got robbed and the employees SA'd assaulted before it was taken away
Hi there. Glad you're back! Please do your homework before saying/repeating things for true. ARBY'S is named for the founders of the restaurant, the Raffel brothers, RB - Raffel Brothers - Not for roast beef.
Miss the Remington knives and the survey place the mall is another dump in the city of Philadelphia it became ghetto like the gallery was all the crime and high rents led to the closure of many stores
They sterilized these landmarks, they threw out all the personality and than wonder why people would rather buy shit online. Spending alot of my childhood in this mall and a lot of the surrounding malls, each had its own "soul" . Seeing this makes me sad but hopeful that maybe they can still come back.
I remember the rollerskating workers! That place was huge!!
Yes, Philadelphia Mills was recently sold.

The Halloween store commentary was hysterical 😂😂😂

Arby’s… The Raffel brothers (RBs) opened the first new restaurant in Boardman, Ohio, just outside Youngstown, on July 23, 1964.
I worked at Pharmor on cottman Ave... they closed in 2002. My sister worked at the Franklin Mills location before transferring to the Cottman Ave Location.
I love it when you explore the city on the scooter
Thanks for the laughs I love watching your videos keep up the good work 👍
Good morning Captain my Captain. Tell your Phillies to take the division at your next series

Hey Captain!! Always love from- Jersey ❤🐶
Loved Carefore ,carrfor. They had the best bakery . I went to high School at Shallcross across the street. Thank you for the tour brother !!!❤
Good Morning Cuz!! Only went to Franklin Mills a handful of times. Actually, it was when I was working for Pennsylvania Pay TV...before cable came to the city. Thanks Captain 😊
Great fact about Arby's!! The homeless camp was by the abandoned LA fitness
Franklin Mills used to be a Simon mall, but as of this year, Simon is in talks to relinquish ownership of the mall. That's why the Simon signage has been removed.
Thanks for the laughs and history lesson of your area
Brian from Northeast Ohio 👍👍👍
My old neighborhood in Philly... A little happiness for me is hearing that Good Old Philly accent that's slowly going away. Online anyway...

The architecture is astounding.

America’s Roast Beef Yes Sir! ARBY’s

Can you do an updated video on Roosevelt Mall stores please
ARBY'S = America's Roast Beef, Yes Sir.
My sister worked at the Arby's in KoP mall in 1988 when she was 15, and this is what they told her. 😊
Man, I miss the old days..first opened in 89, into the mid, late 90s of this massive mall, also the CompUSA that was in another small plaza across from the CarWash/former Pathmark. Living up state and not being able to walk I don't get to see anything down. Thank you for your videos.
I miss playing soccer at Woodhaven. Still have the medal for being the mvp. Great memories
Hope you’re enjoying your weekend off you deserve it Sir🫡
The cones are there for the weekly flea market.
I used to run my rc's cars behind Carrfour, it was fun while it lasted. lol
went to franklin mills mall a few times when i was a kid. it was the coolest mall in the philadelphia/new jersey area that i knew of as a child. this is just depressing. that food court has seen much better days.
OKABASHI flipflops have great arch support and last for years. I get them at CVS, not expensive
Love them..Been wearing OKBASHI since my teenage years.
It was a Bally before it became LA fitness and I think the cops cleared it out like two days ago
Carrefour used to be one of the local spots for Hot Rods.

My mom loved going to outlets so during their fist visit down from CT after this mall opened we went up there, don't think we bought anything that day, never went back again.
Not only did they have 2 food courts but they also had 2 The Wall 😂
This used to be a great destination mall 25 years ago. Last time I went was right after Sandy. I took the bus there and realized how bad everything had gotten.
Can’t believe all those people left their homes unlocked
That neighborhood went down quick
When you went around the building i got scared for you but i still want to see what is there. I really enjoy your videos, you go the same places i would go if i were on my bike and still young. I worked there for 6 years from the day the mall opened. The shape is supposed to resemble a train wreck, so you have to keep moving to see what's around the next corner.
I think the reason the sign was blanked out is the owners defaulted on the mortgage and forfeited the property.
THEY had a skateboard place in the mall before you got to end of it which I remember my kid going to like 15 years ago
Skateboard park was in old pharmore store
Go back in the woods behind the mall - that’s where they’re all set up currently man- it’s absolutely wild what they’ve got set up down there
I really miss the old logo, colored entrances, and of course, Benny.
I help build that mall it was a great place back then it’s so sad
Good video 💥💥
I always wanted to go to carrefour but my family were union workers and we weren't allowed wanted to see the people on their roller skates and I'm pretty sure the racetrack used to be called Keystone they had great carnivals there in the summer
The Union can play in the Mills parking lot.
At the end of the video that park or whatever it is woods needs to be saved and, cleaned up .
The tiny homes are supposed to be at the old riverview senior citizen home site. Behind CFCF. By the park entrance. Near Rhawn and State.
Captain, how's come there is so much undeveloped property behind Life Storage? There is no park or anything back there? I am surprised it is not developed in that area.
My old neighborhood
Not the gate at the Burlington...thats very recent. there are too many animals in that damn mall. There used to be a starbucks right in front of that burlington and it got robbed and the employees SA'd assaulted before it was taken away
Cones are for the flea market on sundays
I heard the mall owners surrender the mall to a financial institution because they owed a lot of money, they borrowed before the pandemic!!
I know what would scare me. A huge Johnny lol
The cones across from Dick's and the storage place are to mark off where they hold the flea market on Sunday.
My daughter works there. They do have a lot of homeless. Not sure where they live.
Nice place for a flea market
They took out all the seating, now you can’t sit anywhere but the food court.
WAIT WHAT
It’s going to get packed wait until Christmas 🎄 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
you panned right past the encampment... that pile that you thought was trash was the encampment
Younger Boomers turned Halloween into something for adults when it used to be just for kids.
I'm with the Captain. I hate it now.
Hi there. Glad you're back! Please do your homework before saying/repeating things for true. ARBY'S is named for the founders of the restaurant, the Raffel brothers, RB - Raffel Brothers - Not for roast beef.
It was on the food network
The car wash membership is about a $1K a year for top of the line including inside cleaning.
Is the mall generally safe?
Wrong Arbys is short for R and B Raffel brothers who started the restaurant
Is the Penneys outlet still there?
Mrs. James
Hasn't been for years, they tried going upscale to a slightly altered JCP but it failed after about two years back in maybe 2005 or so.
How is that place still open??? My goodness.... 😮
Don’t tell Eddie about hating Halloween lol his house is nuts
Miss the Remington knives and the survey place the mall is another dump in the city of Philadelphia it became ghetto like the gallery was all the crime and high rents led to the closure of many stores
Where's the freaking White Castles that was there?
Boscovs was Steve and barrys
The gym there was Bally’s never Gold’s gym
Carrefour was there before the mall.
It's name changed Philly Captain
I guess you don’t know
It's been Philadelphia Mills@@ThePhillyCaptain
It's been Philadelphia Mills
Can someone inform our friend? Why don’t we call it the Philadelphia Mills?
I already know
What’s the chances Nike pulled out of that mall due to constant shop lifting
next to Arby's...where chi chi's was .. abandoned lot...over grown...gross
They sterilized these landmarks, they threw out all the personality and than wonder why people would rather buy shit online. Spending alot of my childhood in this mall and a lot of the surrounding malls, each had its own "soul" . Seeing this makes me sad but hopeful that maybe they can still come back.
Happened to McDonald's too all box stores with no personality, dreary inside.
It looks like Lehigh Valley mall
Pathmark was thier walmart
we love the Philadelphia lean?
Did you work with Debbie Reilly at Toys R Us?
wait till the captain finds out about Future's Thought it was a Drought.
It was Dimes not Nickles
