I met him in 92 he was an awesome person that's why people love him we took a picture with him he flex his bis and my girlfriend at the time from behind kissed his bicep those good old times I'm 55 now still juicing and gonna die juicing
Mike was one of the coolest guys ever. He was the guest power at my second show in 93 as a teenager. He was hanging out talking to all the competitors back stage!!! I was sad when he passed!!! RIP brother!!!!🤘🤘🤘
''If you go to the gym, you gotta be hardcore, you don't get a pat or the back or anything.. You go to the gym you do it for yourself. Nobody else can do the work for you. I think the art of bodybuilding is when guys are in the gym and they're trying to beat themselves, trying to beat their best what they've done each time. That's what matters.'' -Matarazzo
Many years ago I used to live in fort Lauderdale Florida on Bayview drive. I used to see Mike riding his bicycle. You couldn't believe the size of this guy, and when he would go by you you would see him from behind and those calves were so huge it was unbelievable!!!! RIP 007
I lived on NE 12th Ave., 1995-6, I was doing the electrical work on the Presidential Building in center of Hollywood, on my way home I'd lift at YMCA, Hit the beach for a swim, home and eat. I loved it.
The sad truth is maybe he would still be around if he was a lot less "freaky" as you put it and cared more about his health and less about mass and muscles. But then you can come back and say: yeah but then he wouldn't be "Mike". Look at it how you want. But my point is we might still have him with us. I believe his family would have him even if he was smaller.
I met Mike in a gas station in 1986- he was an unknown at the time, but was also extremely large and ripped- we talked for about 15 minutes. I went on to compete a few years later so at that time, we spoke about lifting. Mike was very friendly and genuinely nice to me. Sorry such a lovely soul and great bodybuilder is gone. He really was a gentleman .

Reading FLEX magazine back in the day I always liked articles featuring Mike Matarazzo. He seemed like a genuinely decent guy with a good head on his massive shoulders. Plus he had calves that will probably never be matched. RIP good sir.
And now he's dead. Mike told me that when he began feeling siçk...he wished he'd never picked up a weight. Instead he wished he had remained a truck driver and kept up with boxing workouts. He said the weights & drug cocktails that many were doing were insane. He blamed his competitive behavior for going too far which led to irrational addictive tendencies. He believed that too many risks caught up with him; so sad. R.I.P. Brother Iron.
Sadly that seems to be the case with ao many of these seriously big guys. They take it to such an extreme that many never make it past their 40's, like Rich Piana and those that do can wind up in the shape Ronnie Coleman is in--his entire spine is fused--one big, long bone. But, there's a saying "A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long." Truth
This is a beautiful sport/discipline, however seems to become a killer trap for many who don't want to stop pushing their limits beyond the nature throughout the use of steroids.
Mike was the absolute example of a class bodybuilder. Highly articulate, cool, friendly loving guy, and with the package of legendary calves and arms😎💪🏻✨ 90s bodybuilders were something else. RIP mike🏆✨
Underrated bodybuilder it’s sad to see him pass away. Great poser with incredible energy and confident stage presence. His world class arms and calves were unmatched in any lineup. Mike was always shredded to the bone and unique in terms on freakiness from the front. This dude was great at crab most muscular hands on hips and front double biceps. His back held him down throughout his career but still he bad a great combination of conditioning and mass at the same time.
Well the whole thing’s based on big muscles so…reality is that this sport is so obviously unhealthy that we need to reevaluate our standards of male aesthetics
@@charlesterrizzi8311 Bodybuilding is NOT a sport. It is only a Beauty Contest. It has NO objective way to measure a victor. Only SUBJECTIVE. That's why there are so many Horrible show outcomes.

It hurts to look at Mike, knowing in a few years he would leave us. Mike, I would have stood a lot less mass a lot fewer drugs, just to have a guy like you still around!
Rest In Peace Mike Matarazzo! We lost this Man 10 yeras ago today. He was my inspiration in the Gym and my Garage. Highly underrated Bodybuilder in his Time.
Fantastic video. I met Mike M, legend such a nice guy full of charisma, and a sight to be seen in real life, crazy arms, his delts were so wide like a waking park bench.
I remember seeing the video of the calf raises in Junior high school, in the 90's, long long before lifting weights was ever on my radar. I remember everyone in my class gasping. That stuck with me. I never knew who it was until now
To young to go and by all accounts a great bodybuilder, I preferred his more chiselled look and I think the pressure to get more massive hurt his physique and cost him his life. Best calves ever!
I had the honor of meeting him and doing a quick pose with him back in 1999.... He was super approachable and a genuinely nice person. R.I.P. Iron Brother. 🙏
Mike and Paul both guest post at a national qualifier in Jacksonville Florida that one of my clients was competing in. I was in the third or fourth row on the end seat next to the aisle a couple rows behind the judges and matarazzo came by while he was guest posing and stuck his foot up on my armrest and flexed his monster calf. I've been to 13 Mr Olympia and endless high level pro and amateur bodybuilding shows and I've never been more impressed by a single body part. Yeah he had huge arms but there's plenty of guys with 23-inch arms. Nobody has ever had calves like that. Paul also had huge arms and big ass calves. I talked to him after the show and he was a super nice guy. May he rest in peace ✌️

Classic proportions were neck, arms and calves of equal size.
That was before bodybuilders figured out how to build 23” biceps.
Not so. I have attained 14" arms and calves with comparative ease.
very humble guy
