i did this for the first time for some shelves and it came out great, and it really does help fire proof it because i didnt get it dark enough to my liking so i tried it again and it took alot longer for the wood to burn
It is a very beautiful technique, I would like to ask you what type of nails you use to fix it to the outside, are they copper, stainless steel, galvanized steel,.... or?????
Depends on species of wood, some have corrosive compounds. Best bet is use stainless steel nails, some cladding can take screws best. Some types need pilot holes to avoid splitting. Just research the type of wood cladding and the best way to install that specific type. There are lots of free publications online about cladding. Ask a cladding specialist if you have a local supplier.
Vreau sa fac si eu o casa timberframe, DIY, si as vrea sa stiu cam cat a ajuns casa pe m2 ? Multumesc
Multumesc
Hi guys! I try to gather some information regarding the yakisugi siding. Can you please write me what type of nails did you use? Were they nailed directly in the siding or in the tongue of the siding. I am building a tiny house in Neamt. Thank you so much.
Salut Eliza!
Looks great, I am using Yakisugi for fence trellis using Oregon timber. Built myself a charring station out of old bricks and pass the timber slats through opening in side. Tried using gas torch but took to long and uses a lot of gas. Like how you just left natural as plenty of YTubers get over aggressive with wire power brushing and remove all the charring which defeats the purpose. Plus they keep using the term shou sugi ban which would mean nothing to someone in Japan. Its a transliteration or misinterpretation probably by some academic in the US and now everyone in the West is calling it that! lol
thanks for your message! Nice to hear your opinion about it. We also didn't liked the idea of brushing the timber since we really love the alligator burn more 🤩
