No though this is traditional intricate cultural Jewelry. The post is a tube most likely 16 gauge and a screw holds it securely. The thickness of the gauge supports the weight of the jewelry so it does not gradually pull through the ear. Most likely this is 22 or 24 karat gold, it is very heavy and very soft at the same time so it needs the supports for security of many reasons

That's a pretty handy punch press you got, I've been looking online for a smaller version but can't seem to find one that punches out those cool little shapes, I can't even find the one like you use, I don't think I'm using the correct search terms lol.
