When my youngest was in Elementary School she always complained about her knees bothering her. I took her to her pediatrician and even though not many visual symptoms were happening she referred us to a rheumatologist for reassurance since it had been happening for a couple of years constantly. We went and they said nothing was wrong. Fast forward to when she was 12 in middle school, she suddenly became ill w widespread rashes, fever, and finally towards the end of 21 days extremely swollen knees and very painful hip pain. She was days away of passing away(we had multiple doctors appointment during the 21 days). She was diagnosed w the rarest arthritis form in children currently known SJIA (Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis). This form can attack any organ to the point of causing organ failure not just joints. She was diagnosed by the same group that just a couple of years earlier cleared her.
Needless to say, she did have early symptoms at the first appointment but it wasn't caught.

For 3 years my son has complained about his foot hurting and his knees. I have taken him to children’s hospital in St Louis and they said growing pains. Then we moved to NC. I took him to a new pediatrician who said the same thing and this year too him to a NEW GP. They also said growing pains! It wasn’t until I broke my toe and the ER doctor put me on antibiotics for cellulitis and it was still swelling that my GP sent me to a podiatrist who said NEVER go to a GP or ER for foot and ankle injuries. That doctor was the first one to actually get an MRI and see that there was a problem! He is now being seen for JRA! Just because they are Drs doesn’t mean they know what’s wrong with your kids!

I was diagnosed in the 5th grade. So much pain growing up. I was made fun of by peers, school nurses and worst of all was the PE teachers. I was publicly embarrassed by PE teachers on multiple occasions for being “soft” and complaining to much. If any teachers or nurses are reading this please do not make fun of kids who are in pain. They are not lying. Having arthritis at such a young age is punishing.

In my 50s being treated for rheumatoid arthritis I now know but yes I’ve had it since I was a child. Know that I’m on medication I can bend my wrist like I’ve never been able to bend them before

Perhaps if teachers can be made aware of the symptoms they can advise parents to have their child screened. No responsibility. Just something extra.

That would work except for how the medical system somewhat is. When I was originally diagnosed, my mother was told numerous times that I was okay and that she was being an overprotective mom. This often happens, not just for this. Some doctors treated my mother as if she was crazy for thinking something was going on with my body. Turns out my mother and grandma were right all along.

So how can you treat the actual PROBLEM instead of medicating only symptoms to mask it and pretend it isn't there forever? Taking any medication forever will mess up every part of your body forever. All medications are supposed to stop at just 30-60 days.

This condition has to be medicated in certain cases. This condition can cause a lot of damage if it isn't controlled. The medication doesn't have to be a perpetual, forever thing.

What do you mean b.s.? I know you're likely a troll. But like...this isn't b.s. I was diagnosed with this when I was a baby.

You should look up the medical medium and read his books, he has information that I think could help your kid. And it has also helped me too :)
