Shawn, it looks like at 17:23 when you're talking about the root, other side of the trench the low voltage wire has been cut. Looks like it goes to the spots on the side of the house.

Back to your old haunts. A soggy yard is no fun. I detected a bit of glee pulling out the corrugated pipe. Something you might watch on you tube, a channel, Dirt Perfect. This guy has installed thousands of feet of corrugated pipe for a farmer. He built a plow to install the pipe up to 4' below grade . One thing I thought about on the floor leveling job a few weeks ago. The exterior wall still has some load on it and the joists are weakened by the rot. I would consider adding some treated blocking from the top of the concrete to the bottom of the sub floor, to help support it.
Next month, I am extending my gutter drainage in my yard with PVC and your videos have given me inspiration and the know how to do it properly. Thank you.

Yeah they surely will get that patio channeled at some point so that a downspout can be used. Even so, I'd wager they'd still need a deeper gutter to catch the roof shedding or at least a taller shield so that it doesn't run over the gutter.
Out here in Phoenix if you don't bury the PVC you need to paint it. Because the UV rays beat the hell out of it and within a year or two the pipe has turned a brown blackish color and is very brittle and doesn't take much to break it
Also out here in Phoenix since we live in the desert there's drip systems and sprinklers for irrigation type systems and everything each other half inch PVC or a 3/4-in PVC or for drip systems it's that black flex tube that you just pierced to poke little nipples into. So really you can have just a handful of parts and be able to fix any irrigation system in the valley, lol
Nice Mike!! I wish the irrigation systems here were more standardized. I feel bad not offering to fix them. I was just out in Phoenix passing through from Tuscon to Sedona to mountain bike.
For such a nice house, that back roof/gutter system is terrible. There is no way that roof won't leak where you showed the water coming down around the flashing.
@@GCFD Perhaps a mason could make two reasonable swales on top of the patio to direct the water. Or break out/cut two rows of brick on each side to install some gutters.

Hey Shawn, you should consider devising a way to add decorative/camouflage panels or other ways to obscure above-ground PVC pipes. Might be some potential for profit in it. Even if there isn't a lot of money in it, it would help to make the solution more acceptable.
💥Shaun,💥 I live your videos. I've watched you for almost 2 years now and thus is the first job that I thought to myself. "Damn Shaun why did you discharge the water onto that front side walk? You know that especially it being brick pavers the water will compromise the sidewalk in time." So Shaun I'm just wondering what are your thoughts? And other than the bed being crowded with plants, what made you not take the discharge under the sidewalk?? Again love your videos and I've learned a tremendous amount from you. And I'm hoping to learn why you choose the do that💥
They already had the discharge area and it was working for them. So we just went back with it and will keep an eye on things. We can always core the curb later if needed or problems arise. Great comment and it's a concern worth considering!

Thank you SC! Thanks for being there with me along the way. I figured if people were actually watching my stuff, I needed to do my part and try to improve things. Maybe 10% are referrals, and a lot come from youtube. It's pretty amazing how much the youtube stuff has grown, like you said.
That property has some extremely impressive slope. I wish they had installed a 6 inch at 1% slope starting from the street so that the backyard could have rock-inlet-risers to lower the water-table of the backyard to the max the land has to offer. I also wish I had a laser with the level on an excavator to make the dig require no measuring.
Yes it's interesting that a house with so much slope could have drainage issues. A little planning ahead of time could have gone a long way in this case. 👍
Love your videos! Found you through the Essential Craftsman Podcast. Curious if you use any silicone or gasket like substance when you attach your round PVC junctions to the square down spouts to account for the voids in the attachment. Or maybe youre not too worried about debris getting in there because once it gets in you feel confident it will slip on through with the rest of the water?
Just curious, is a city\county permit required to install rain\storm drainage? Looks like it'd be doable for an homeowner but wasn't sure about the permit part and google'ing doesn't provide much info. Looks the content, and thanks for the video...super fun to watch!
We run into that sometimes Steve. I mentioned in the video that it should have been wayy easier if those utilities weren't in our way. Regardless, I was thrilled we didn't hit anything.

It's always amazing to see just how much water there is coming off the roof. That's why any drainage solution must include your being able to see the problem water flowing away...
The first 3 minutes helps make a map of the corrugated pipe, which appears to circle the entire house. Which probably wouldn't be as big of a deal if it had fall. Nice job being so careful around the utilities. Good there was a separate shut off for the sprinklers so you'd know if there was a leak. I imagine it would be harder to determine a leak if they were connected to the house water line.
I’ve watched all your videos but for some reason I can’t remember what you use for perforated pipe. Do you drill holes in your schedule 40 or do you use some thing else? Thank you so much👍
How about this idea Shawn, doubling up on the downspout on that corner. I think when my gutters overflow the gutters themselves can handle the load but the small hole in the gutter restricts flow.

For such a nice house, that back roof/gutter system is terrible. There is no way that roof won't leak where you showed the water coming down around the flashing.
I know and I had a detailed discussion with the homeowners about that. They need to get new gutters and pulll up the patio pavers to install pipes.
