    I’m just astonished how stable the black hole’s position in space must be to eject a perfectly linear jet over so many millions of years. Surely the jets are exerting some sort of thrust on the source itself.

    • @Cosmoknowledge
      @Cosmoknowledge  9 днів тому +2

      Well, in a way, black holes are space itself. They are curved, or folded, spacetime.

    • @junkmail4613
      @junkmail4613 7 днів тому +1

      It's velocity in space is governed by its massive momentum. Once moving what on Earth could change its direction at all? As far as its direction is concerned imagine the moment of a large gyroscope. Imagine how nothing could change its orientation. Something that massive is just going to do what it wants to do and nothing will change that.

    How can you identify north and south pole of black hole. Why cant they be west and east or just north and north.?

    • @Cosmoknowledge
      @Cosmoknowledge  5 днів тому

      Inside a black hole, the concept of directions like south, east, west, and north doesn't apply in the traditional sense. Black holes warp spacetime so intensely that the usual coordinates we use to navigate on Earth or in space become meaningless.

    Why are the jets in straight lines? Wouldn’t the black hole travel through space over the course of millions of years?

    • @Cosmoknowledge
      @Cosmoknowledge  8 днів тому +3

      Black hole jets are in a straight line because they are directed by powerful magnetic fields, which align the jet material along the black hole's rotational axis.

    • @jonthomson9262

      @@Cosmoknowledgeit would seem that black holes move through spacetime like everything else.......but also at the same time it draws the fabric of spacetime into itself as well.

    • @hogenmogen8545
      @hogenmogen8545 6 днів тому +2

      @@Cosmoknowledge That explains why the jets are straight over a few thousand AU. But a jet that is 10 million light years long should curve, shouldn't it? Like if you have a water hose pointing down, the water travels in a straight line down. But if the hose moves, the water hitting the ground is no longer directly below the hose, and the stream is bent to connect the point where the stream touches the ground to the hose. Are the magnetic fields 10 million light years long? Do they not work at the speed of light like gravity waves?
