Are you up for the challenge??? Keep track of everything you spend in a week you could be in for a surprise! I felt like we didn't spend much but then when you add it all up I was a bit shocked.

      This is in Hong Kong.
Excluding vacations, parents/relatives spendings, health insurance because these vary widely from one person to another.
Monthly expenses for 2 living in self-own flat and adopting a dog (just paying for all expenses, not living together) is about US$2876. I would say dog expenses is abt US$120/mo or less.

This was a great breakdown of weekly expenses! Having lived in Beijing and now in Tianjin I find that transportation, rent, and food are much cheaper in Tianjin however I loved what you said about being in the center of everything. I think that’s totally worth the expense.

Thanks a lot! Yeah I bet you can really see the difference living in both cities. When we lived in Nanjing it was much cheaper too but we had also just got back from traveling and were in debt so were a lot more careful with our money. Now I'm old enough to enjoy life a little bit. I actually didn't think we spent very much but when you see it like this it's more than I thought haha

Nihao! Your prices are very accurate and very similar to my costs in Changzhou, near Nanjing. I was very surprised at your rent I expected Beijing to be much higher. Mine was 1800 a month for a furnished 2 bedroom at about 75 meters in an older building.
The local food is super cheap. Breakfast is usually dumplings (6 rmb), steamed buns (3 rmb) or egg & chicken wraps for 10 rmb. Dinners were usually at the local fast food cafeteria, a meat, a vegetable, rice and water for about 20 rmb. Laowei meals were Western prices at 100-200 without a bunch of drinks.
My scooter was the best thing I bought there. Super convenient and easy to get around on. Just be careful walking because you don't hear them coming. They are fun and surprisingly quick.
I hope you are enjoying your stay. It is a great place and the people were very nice. Xi xi,

What on earth am I doing still here in the UK!! That's insane that the total cost for you both doesn't even come close to the cost of just my rent (that I pay for on my own).. Cost of living in the UK (sth London) is way way too high 😞... As soon as this ridiculousness is over, I'm definitely going to be relocating, it's too unbalanced. Thank you so much for your video, really helped 👏🏻

We used to live in Nottingham and the rent was much cheaper than here but everything else was way more expensive. I feel if you were living in London then it would be so high. We can live pretty comfortably here like you saw in the video we aren't trying to be frugal but also we are not huge spenders and so we can still save as well. And Chinese Cities have the most amazing infrastructure and transport systems. Living quality are better in beijing, have good public transporation and all you can eat at there. In jakarta, traffic jam...not good idea to lived in jakarta.

I live in a smaller city (according to Chinese standards) in Ningxia province and my monthly cost is considerably less. The school pays for my rent and phone. Food is much cheaper as there are no western places. I walk or use the bus (¥1) or a taxi (¥5) to school. I also do lots of home cooking but always have buy a meal for lunch. I live in Zhengzhou, I'm a teacher at a university so I don't pay rent. My apartment is in the contract. If I buy food at the local market it's quite cheap. I did buy some take out today: stir fry cauliflower, Kung Pao chicken, and dumplings: 110 yuan. But I can get four meals out of that, if I pair it with tomato salads.

    • @Nicofilms

Great video. I spent a total of 13,500 last month with rent and everything. This is in Beijing with me having my own apartment that is about the same price as yours. I am very thrifty though and could certainly be considered a penny pincher (every penny counts! 😄). I also don’t live in the center of the city so food and such is prob a bit cheaper. It is very very easy for that number to go up with alcohol and western food and such. Keep making great videos 🙂

So total per week is around 3,375 yuan. So you are each spending less per person. I don’t cook at all though so that’s prob part of it. And not splitting rent. Oh well, I love it here and save enough to be quite content 😌

Sounds about right then. I think the rent is pretty pricy here and like you say if you have a meal out and some drinks that is easily about ¥500 for 2 people. I don't think we are very frugal but we also don't spend like crazy. If we didn't have to pay for my physio and we weren't learning Chinese then we would only really spend money on food. Me too! I can live a decent life and save where as I felt the whole of my 20's were spent scrimping so now I can live a better life.
