Nihao! Your prices are very accurate and very similar to my costs in Changzhou, near Nanjing. I was very surprised at your rent I expected Beijing to be much higher. Mine was 1800 a month for a furnished 2 bedroom at about 75 meters in an older building. The local food is super cheap. Breakfast is usually dumplings (6 rmb), steamed buns (3 rmb) or egg & chicken wraps for 10 rmb. Dinners were usually at the local fast food cafeteria, a meat, a vegetable, rice and water for about 20 rmb. Laowei meals were Western prices at 100-200 without a bunch of drinks. My scooter was the best thing I bought there. Super convenient and easy to get around on. Just be careful walking because you don't hear them coming. They are fun and surprisingly quick. I hope you are enjoying your stay. It is a great place and the people were very nice. Xi xi,

Hi Nico, thanks for all the videos about Beijing. Although I lived in Beijing for 6 years since 2001, I left there already for almost 14 years. This summer I am going to move back to Beijing and start to work in Sanyuanqiao area, if everything goes well, no large COVID outbreak again. I am wandering what is the WeChat housing group? How could I find such a descent place like what you have? all the apartments I am looking at are rather expensive.
You will not recognize Beijing when u go back. Of course, the housing price is much much higher😂 Nico said she spent 2000 per week, that means monthly rent is above 8000. You can find an ordinary one bedroom apartment at around 6000 in Sanyuanqiao area.
Great to hear you are moving back. Yes that area is quite popular now and so apartment prices are probably quite high. The group is more for hutongs and that area but I can give you my agent and he might know some people that work in Sanyuanqiao area and can add you to the group. His WeChat is jay57168.

No and I think the rent plays a big factor in this. If it wasn't for rent I don't think it is that bad. I'm not sure the size of it. We are going to do a house tour next so I will see if we can work it out for that.
This is what we spend in a week. There are monthly expenses which we pay like rent, utilities etc which we broke down to show you how much these costs are per week.
That really depends on what you do that day and how expensive your tastes are. If you were to get a taxi across town, get a bowl of noodles and go to a museum it would be about ¥100 but if you wanted to eat at a more Western restaurant then the price would be a lot more.

Hold up, 40 rmb per trip on a subway? Isn't it 2 rmb? 40 seems like a lot especially if its only a one way trip. And omg western food cost 115 USD!?! Its higher than I expected
It depends which you go to. Local doctors are much cheaper but if you go to a foreign hospital it could be anything from ¥150-500 depending on who you need to see.
That's really cheap in China, a week you might need 7 masks, 1 yuan for each, total 7 yuan, sanitizer might 10 yuan for 1 bottle, that's 17 yuan only, cheap than a cup of coffee.
That would come under groceries as Jack buys when grabbing things for the week but actually like @bosskey says my company provide me with free masks and hand sanitiser so I haven't had to pay for either in over a year.

You will not recognize Beijing when u go back. Of course, the housing price is much much higher😂 Nico said she spent 2000 per week, that means monthly rent is above 8000. You can find an ordinary one bedroom apartment at around 6000 in Sanyuanqiao area.
@@yudonghui oh, per week.. my fault. apparently I missed the word "per week"😭
@@manycxxx haha, maybe u could find a nice one bed room apartment at around 3000 monthly in BJ 15 years ago.
Great to hear you are moving back. Yes that area is quite popular now and so apartment prices are probably quite high. The group is more for hutongs and that area but I can give you my agent and he might know some people that work in Sanyuanqiao area and can add you to the group. His WeChat is jay57168.
waah i love your videos ! I really hope that China will open borders this summer because I have to go back to China for my studies in Beijing ....
have a nice day !
Thanks a lot I'm so happy you enjoy them! Good luck!
And my friends work in It in Beijing or Shenzhen they have similar salary as me but their life expense is only one third of me...
Your taxes are a lot higher probably.
Where do you live?
Nico you always have high quality videos.
Thank you very much!
Square Peg is such a nice name, can never get over it.

Living in Düsseldorf Germany, size 40sqm apartment in City center. rent-590euro, electricity bill& water-100 Euro, phone-8 Euro, Internet-19 Euro, food-500 Euro, transportation-50 Euro..so all together 1267 Euro för basic cost
which property agent did u find to help u get around to view some units ?
Damn my expenses were around 1200 a week, 2000 if i spent alot. That was in Xiamen too, not one of the cheapest cities. Now I see why the wages are higher in Beijing lol
2000 $?
@@manimalworks7424 nooo RMB lol
@@oliverpicken3320 that low? Even the rent alone can be 1200rmb I thought.
@@yaqiwang5242 I was paying 2500 a month for a nice studio 5 minutes from the beach in the south east of the main Island near the convention center, seemed like I got a good deal tbf. 1 and 2 bedroom flats in the building ran 3000-5000

My wife works in Beijing tik-tok and they have a great buffet for 3 meals each day.
Jealous! I heard they have afternoon tea and cake. I think I would gain so much weight haha
That’s actually very cheap, if you take away the optionals such as your tutor, physio and cleaner. That’s already saving about $215.
Yeah exactly there are certainly ways we could save more money and also we could spend a lot more.
I'm still studying in UK rn sixth form and this vid made my mind set living in China although I wasn't too sure now I am! All that's left is job, learn some Chinese and ofc most importantly get a wechat acc to pay for stuff lol
I’m pleased my videos are helping and inspiring you. Good luck on your journey!
I live in Changsha, 2300/RMB for a beautiful two-bedroom apartment on the 60th amazing view
Wow!! That is so cheap!
@@Nicofilms I'm Canadian, yes Beijing is AMAZING, it's the Toronto of China. There are amazing cities in China that are affordable and you can afford to save and travel. Chengdu, Chongqing to name two..
@@MrSky10101 we loved Chongqing and are still yet to visit Chengdu. I love living in Beijing though and my job is here but it is expensive.
I live in Luoyang, a 3 tier city in Henan province. In average I spend around 4000rmb per month on living. I use Didi a lot, order food every day and eat out with friends once a week.
Wow! That is so much cheaper how much is rent there?
@@Nicofilms Studio will start from 1200 rmb in a good community, 1 bedroom from 1600 rmb, 2 bedrooms from 2000 rmb. Personally I pay 1660 rmb (1500 pays my school) and live in one of the most expensive communities here.

living at Hong kong, the most expensive cost is the rental per month, my rental is HK$75,000(US$9,600)/month, and other costs are similar as BJ
That’s a big apartment and in expensive building.
@@atamo4323 actually it is not quite big, it’s a 150 square meters apartment at a good community
@@davidltm2048 that’s big in hong kong. Over 1000 sq ft is big. And rent per sq ft is higher for big unit. If it is for 2px like the channel owner, then it is a big expense.
Wow that is a lot on rent. Rent is the biggest thing but I think I spent a lot more daily in the UK apart from rent so it is still far cheaper here for me.
Amazing!!
Beijing is more expensive than Stockholm in Sweden. I have lived in both, be careful people. I thought China would be cheap before I moved there but I ended up spending 20k rmb/month just on rent/food/alcohol and I didn't own a car or buy any clothes, I think I lived pretty frugally compared to in Sweden......but I mostly cooked western food or ate western food in restaurants which is EXPENSIVE! I tried to eat Chinese food but didn't like it unfortunately.

@@Nicofilms I enjoyed but the video had too many numbers. My head gets confused.😵

It's very expensive to live in the downtown but if you live one or two stations far from downtown the rental won't be so expensive.
Why you use the India VPN server at 0:30. Shouldn't the Japanese or Hongkong ones be faster?
Wow I thought Beijing rent was a lot more expensive, my rent in Shenzhen far from the city center is 3000, my total monthly expenses 5500 including insurance, no gym :(.
This is our weekly expenses, so our rent is ¥8500 a month.
I think its quite affordable.
I wonder if u watch other youtubers on ur spare time. there's this one channel called off the great wall. they started like in 2013 and they were big. they didn't make vids for like 3 years and now they're back. u probably heard of this channel before or not. I saw in your e-bike, it comes with removable batteries? How far is the range and how much time does it take to fully charged?
Yes it is a 'Niu' bike. I used to charge it every other day but my battery is a few years old now so I charge it everyday to be on the safe side. I leave it over night so I don't know how long it takes. I'm sure their website will be able to give you more detailed specs and also the different battery sizes.
Thanks for the video! Really want to know how you found your place? Using apps or an agent? We are thinking of moving to China but are not sure how to look for a place from Canada.
There’s an app named wellcee that caters to foreigners living in China to find the apt

This is the breakdown for a week so its ¥4 x 10 trips to work so ¥40 for the week. The same with the rent it is priced at weekly not monthly. 🙂
@@Nicofilms Oh okay, thank you for the clarification!
So not super cheap, but love the transparency. What's your square meters in the apartment?
I think its because their life style.
No and I think the rent plays a big factor in this. If it wasn't for rent I don't think it is that bad. I'm not sure the size of it. We are going to do a house tour next so I will see if we can work it out for that.
Confused, you said monthly expenses, then week by week expenses. Even the sub title is monthly expenses. So, which is which?
This is what we spend in a week. There are monthly expenses which we pay like rent, utilities etc which we broke down to show you how much these costs are per week.
Hi Nico! Im going to Beijing next semester and was wondering if you could share the WeChat housing group with me.
Hey! Here is the WeChat for my housing agent he will be able to help you and add you to the group jay57168
how much would you spend a day as a tourist (food, attractions, taxi), excluding hotels?
That really depends on what you do that day and how expensive your tastes are. If you were to get a taxi across town, get a bowl of noodles and go to a museum it would be about ¥100 but if you wanted to eat at a more Western restaurant then the price would be a lot more.
Dear Nico, love your vidoe soooo much, fine cotting and editting, I know you spend a lot of effort on it but I dont know what happened to the click volumn. maybe you can cooperate with other vloggers and exchange fans

Hey nico how much are doctors and China
It depends which you go to. Local doctors are much cheaper but if you go to a foreign hospital it could be anything from ¥150-500 depending on who you need to see.
What are the price(buying) of housing there
Beijing.. 15min from center. ¥5 million for 90 square meters
it depends. generally, about 70 thousand for one squaremetter.
@@don-ricodasilva5205 😮😮. Very high. I guess most people will prefer renting. With no purpose of buying one 🏠!

You probably forgot to add in the cost of masks and hand sanitizers!
That's really cheap in China, a week you might need 7 masks, 1 yuan for each, total 7 yuan, sanitizer might 10 yuan for 1 bottle, that's 17 yuan only, cheap than a cup of coffee.
And if fact, I think her company will provide all these gears, same as my company does so.
