My reaction was basically. Ohtani. went. to. a. team. that. won. the. world. series. 3. years. ago. How. exciting. I. can. barely. contain. my. excitement. Anyone asking "what is that voice" it was basically an emotionless voice akin to a sorethroat voice. I'm not angry, I'm just severely disappointed that it isn't just the owners that only care about money. Players are going where the money is instead of where they'll make the most impact.
This contract is extremely dangerous for baseball. MLB needs to stop things like deferred payments because it is such an unfair practice and it prices out all the competition in a very underhanded way. Fight me on it if you want. This is bad for the game.
It’s only dangerous if every athlete suddenly is willing to play before getting paid. I get the disdain for the dodgers is strong right now but let’s recall just how selfish most people, let alone athletes are. I think baseball is fine.
I laughed at the pathetic mentions of the Giants being linked to Ohtani. There was less than zero chance they get him. $142,000 per at bat with 500 appearance avg per season.
As an angels fan I can say we all knew this was coming. He wanted to stay is so cal and the angels won’t win anytime soon and just organizationally we are inferior to the dodgers lol we are a joke
I'm a Dodger/Met fan (it's complicated) but Angels are my favorite AL team and I still remember them trouncing the Yankees in 2002. I loved the Angels announcers, they had so much joy in talking about Shohei! Really wish the Halos could get it together :(
The cool thing about sports is seeing loyal fans stick with their team no matter what. The Angels are lucky to have you
Shohei Ohtani contract + 300 million = 1 BILLION dollars $$$$ !!!
I wonder why he wanted to sign with the Dodgers...
Yes rich, the way it should have been from day one. 😊
Dodger tickets, $100 for nosebleeds.
Edit, still gonna be sweet on binoculars and tv.
2:07 what is this word? (Baseball casual here)
It’s a reference to Bobby Bonilla’s deal with the Mets when they cut him. Rather than pay him the ~$6 million they owed him, they agreed to pay him > $1 million/year until 2035, even though he retired in 2001. It’s a spectacularly bad deal for the Mets and a running joke in baseball.
@@PaulMcElligott thank you for the context! Why would a team pay someone more than 1 mil/year rather than just pay him out ?
@@ZacharyJohnGBecause their owner was an idiot. The money to pay him immediately was tied up in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, but the owner figured the returns from that investment would more than cover the payments to Bonilla.
As an aside, every July 1, the day Bonilla receives his money, is a sort of sarcastic holiday for Mets fans, “Bobby Bonilla Day.”
@@PaulMcElligottI like how your first sentence was the best explanation...but you still gave a detailed one.
@@spsawyer22 Well, “Their owner was an idiot” applies to so many teams.
I love Simi valley
Ohtani in the outfield next season and I will 💦
There's too much hype around this.. I can see the bottom falling out and the Dodgers having another failed postseason year after year.
This is what happens when your counter offer offer is in Canadian dollars
Jeresy #17 will be a retired number league wide after the contract ends.
That was the perfect way to take a dump on the Blue Jays for being so delusional to think that they could sign their first superstar baseball player since Roger Clemens in 1997
Mahomes + Micah would be 450MM plus...maybe 100MM for 10 years? Non-QBs are really really screwed in terms of their value in the NFL
when are the dodgers going to get Mike Trout?
he will be plagued by injuries or sub par play but the dodgers are loaded
Ohtani was always going to LAD…they checked every box. Only annoying thing was how obvious this was for years. There was no Ohtani FA sweepstakes. He was only going to one and only one place.
The Angels were morons for not trading him for a King's ransom when they had the chance. Now they get nothing but scorn and ridicule.
I consider Los Angeles everything boxed in by Thousand Oaks, San Fernando, Chino, Dana Point. Sorry, but it's the sprawl.
The angel's reported they use to make 25million off ohtani a year..so lets low ball it and say dodgers can make 30million a year. so they only paying ohtani 40million out of pocket to be a 20million hitter and 20million pitcher..i put money on it right now. ..Dodgers are gonna have some talk with ohtani to see if he's open to goin to the outfield if he can no longer pitch..which will basically paying Aaron judge money..
I can’t imagine what the Angels fandom is feeling right now. Shoulda traded him. 🤷🏽♂️
Great. Now I have to root for the Dodgers. I hate baseball and I hate the Dodgers. I'm not rooting for the Dodgers, I will just root for Ohtani.
I think baseball is fine.
imagine being proud of living in Simi Valley lol
Ridiculous amount
So the Braves win, I love this deal, I get 3 23 million dollar pitchers now.
Who cares, doesn’t bother me that he left in the first place. We should have moved from the beginning and focus on other key pieces that we need.
And now after the massive deferrals, LA signs an all star or two 🤯
$700 million to lose in the first round each year as opposed to missing them outright.
My god between you and Colin Cowherd, I don’t him who had the worst sports takes.
I laughed at the pathetic mentions of the Giants being linked to Ohtani. There was less than zero chance they get him. Looking forward to more years of mediocrity while our rival gets more powerful and our ousted HOF manager wins World Series. My team is officially just the A's with a better stadium.
Freddie come back to Atlanta please it’s not funny anymore 😭😭
Whack! Just buy a championship already
The Football equivalent is not the same at all. What a stupid comparison
