Nice to see someone else who uses scales + waist measurement to assess lean mass gain.
If I can increase my weight at the same waist measurement, I can tell it's lean mass because my waist is the first place I gain fat.
I know that there will generally be some increase in waist size during even a lean bulk or maingaining phase, but I set a hard upper limit on it to keep myself honest.
And in the long run, if I plot my weight to waist ratio and it increases from year to year, I'm good. Or if I plot them separately and see the weight incline and the waist flat.

So I developed an eating disorder and would feel dizzy any time I stood and saw ribs but still no abs. Ab disinformation is one of the worst lies of the fitness industry. The only ones with good abs who don't need to train them are on PEDs who have built abs automatically just through having hormonal levels through the roof. They could sit on the couch and still gain mass. This is another reason those on PEDs are not qualified to give advice to natural trainees.

"Side bends are the worst lift for obliques, it's all your spine and hips." The function of the obliques is to support the spine whether it's the valsalva, bending or rotation. You should be feeling your obliques activate on lifts with a heavy load to the spine, like deadlifts. Side bends are a natural movement for the obliques and follows the rule of hypertrophy where you stretch and shorten the muscle. As for the hips, you're not supposed to be moving your hips to go down that deep. I think they're too annoyingly specific to include in a normal routine but I disagree that they're a bad lift.

Carrying heavy multipacks of juice and water with one hand and bracing like I'm doing a suitcase carry have blown up my obliques even though I'm fat as fuck, it's noticeable, way more so than when I used to do heavy farmers walks when i was training strongman at 18

    • @wertyuiopasd6281

The primary mover is the QL muscle.
The reason I do them is because it hypertrophies the QL, my obliques had very little development in that movement.
Even hanging leg raisons for give you bigger obliques (any rounding of the spine with gravity will work the obliques because posterior pelvic tilt is one of its functions).

Do 2-3 set to failure and follow it with another ab exercices if you want to . Insure a good shoulder warm up for the back squat position, overhead, bench press... Chris duffin use it this way , I've been doing it like that for almost 2years without really knowing anything. If you can't do a full rom ab roll now work on it with the protocole I layed out and follow that with sliding plank or any plank variation that's challenging. Try it out men results are great

Abs grow the most from very frequent training, at least several times a week (or even up to every single day, they can handle a lot). I would recommend including a bit of abs in every work out. Either super-set them in with your other exercises or do them as a little break mid-way through your workout, after the main strength work (spending 5-10 minutes on abs is a good way to rest the main muscle groups you are training on a certain day).

    Abs are attractive because:
    1. They can have multiple points of symmetry
    2. They show low body fat
    3. Back in the day isolation wasn't all that much of a thing so have defined abs was an overall sign of athleticism.
Also think about the next most attractive muscles
That being a nice neck and a sculpted lower back.
All these muscles are by products of working as they aren't primary movers but instead stabilizers.
That's also why you can have even more attractive abs when you develop the surrounding muscles instead of just the rectus abdominis.

      @3dstaco 2 роки тому

Remember women are attracted to the opposite sex (not bodybuilding)
      Opposite sex=Men=High T=Low fat + highly sculpted.
You don't need naturally high base level T you just need to regularly demand it from your body through exercise.
(If your T level was zero even during exercise you wouldn't add any muscle and you would also be dead)

Everyone has an abs obsession until they reach adulthood, after that you just don't care anymore, abs aren't visible when clothed but at the same time it's almost impossible to not have abs if you are below 16% bf and have a decent workout routine.

    • @anonymous108

I think a good standard is to have upper abs most the year- you can see them at relatively high bf if you are muscular.

In LGBT community, abs are a HUGE deal. Having a six pack shoots you sky high up the totem pole of the gay dating world. It’s pretty ridiculous, but I’ll be real, I know I do want the benefits that comes with having a six pack, it’s only natural to feel wanted 🤷🏾‍♂️.
EDIT: I also hate how a lot of these UA-cam fitness people downplay the importance of ab work to novices…it’s always confused me how these shredded guys would damn near always say that ab work isn’t necessary because of compound movements 🤔?

Speaking evolutionarily, I'd say a six pack has a negative function. As in, its not a function that it provides, but rather indicates an attractive excess.
If this person is muscular, without abs, they are really struggling to maintain that physique.
If a person is muscular with abs, it gives the appearance of effortlessness. "I can do this for days!" (i.e. be physically fit)
I think that's a more appropriate way of seeing it. It is vanity, but it makes the vanity of bodybuilding seem effortless.
