This is a strong beautiful song about strong beautiful people. I'm a retired soldier, grew up on a farm, big and ugly and about as masculine a man as I can imagine. (Grunt grunt) I even still use bar soap! lol And I don't think for even one second that I could have survived to the age I have without my amazing, beautiful and equally strong wife. And even if I could have, I wouldn't want to have. She is my strength. She is what I fought for and what I've stopped fighting for at the same time. She is my world. This song represents that very well imo.

The Hu's people contacted Lzzy's with the Idea of the colab. They provided her with a jist of the song. She wrote and recorded three tracks and delivered it back in 3 days. The Hu team mixed and recorded it. Then invited Lzzy to record the video with the "boys". As ,Lzzy referred to them.

My sister and I watched this (we are middle aged with adult children now) and both of us described feeling a deep primal reaction to this song. The line "Across ocean carried the seed" was sooo huge and brilliant. During times when people went exploring or were forced to move to find new homes due to danger or social upheaval, women have carried the unborn, the newborns, and seeds of plants to feed the people. They tirelessly carried the essentials for a new society, within their bodies and on their backs. It's just brilliant. Thank you for reacting to this song.

Horse head. The Morin Khuur, a.k.a. the horsehead fiddle. The pictures are the baby pictures of the band members , and Lzzy, with their own mothers.
    She wrote the English lyrics.
Yes, you pronounced her name correctly. Her given name is Elizabeth and she went by Lizzy. One of their super fans early on, who was also a huge Ozzy fan, started to stylize her name as Lzzy, and it stuck.
If you're not familiar with Lzzy's band Halestorm and want to check them out, try I Am the Fire, I Miss the Misery, Freak Like Me ,or Back From the Dead.

As others stated, each member of The HU and Lizzy have a picture of them with their mothers. I always get very emotional of this song. My mother just celebrated her 84th birthday past weekend.

Lzzy is such a wonderful person, she supports any band or singer she thinks is worth it (including The Warning), her part in this was amazing and wouldn’t have been possible without her! It’s interesting to observe that she’s also learned how to throat sing specifically for this.
I guess that you had the chills a few times throughout this, didn’t we all 😊 interestingly Lzzy is usually in a black leather jacket as far as I know, she may have done this in red for the reasons you said.

I do suggest - given you also have mental health as an area of interest - the duet that Lzzy did with Lindsey Stirling called "Shatter Me" is about the struggle to conquer an eating disorder - the live version on Sirius XM is the best version.

This is why I like the brand of feminism I learned about growing up - the kind that uplifts both, that says men can be soft and women can be strong, but men can also be strong and women can be soft. We all just have to be true to ourselves and love each other and stop trying to force others to be what we think they should be.
Loved this!!! Halestorm is amazing, definitely recommend any of their songs (saw some good recomendations in the comments). Lzzy's voice is incredibly versatile - she has ballads (Raise your Horns, Break In, Familiar taste of Poision) and some harder rock (Back from the Dead, Love Bites) plus a lot in between; all of it is incredible to listen to. My favorite rock band by far

  • @tumee5

Here is the translation of the song that I complied and tweaked from multiple sources (including the original English transliteration from the album) to better convey the message. The lyrics are for the original song without Lizzie but this version cut a few lines to make room for her piece.
As a Mongolian, I really enjoyed the lyrics so I wanted non-Mongolian speaking audience to understand the lyrics as well. To me, the meaning of the song is also about our Earth as the beginning and ending of everything.
The palm tree grows and flowers
As she sings softly my soul retains
    My wife, an honorable lady
    Compassionate and delicate
The Argali (big horn sheep) springs and flies in the mountains
    Her fondness melts me languidly
    My wife, an honorable lady
    Compassionate and lovely
The birds sing and tweet in the eternal blue sky
They are happy and joyful in their souls
    I am faith
    My wife, an honorable lady
    Compassionate and mesmerizing
The palm tree grows and flowers
As she sings softly my soul retains
The Argali springs and flies in the mountains
    Her fondness melts me languidly
The birds sing and tweet in the eternal blue sky
They are happy and joyful in their souls
With the precious words of your forefathers
With the milk blessed road of your mother, the true path
With the power of love for your homeland
Have a fighter spirit in you, be steady
As if you were a blade of a sword
As if you were a point of an arrow ready to shoot, spring and fly, ride and rise

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but when The Warning was touring with Halestorm in 2022, Lzzy surprised Dany with one of Lzzy's guitars on stage (a signature guitar I believe). The reaction of Dany is priceless. Dany apparently didn't realize it was an actual gift because she tried to return it. Lzzy, of course, didn't take it back and assured Dany that, yes, it was a gift. She also told Dany to pay it forward someday. Here is a video that shows the gift from a few angles and Dany playing it on stage - ua-cam.com/video/4Pv5W9l2JrI/v-deo.html
Here is another Lzzy story. The Japanese band Lovebites was named after the Halestorm song "Love Bites (So Do I)" because it was one of the songs that Asami sang in her audition to be the vocalist in Lovebites and everybody loved the song. Asami, who was a R&B and Soul singer, has said that listening to Lzzy Hale and practicing Halestorm songs gave her the confidence to audition for a metal band. In 2019, both Halestorm and Lovebites were performing at the Download Festival and Lzzy Hale was so honored that a band named themselves after her song, she invited Asami to sing it with her at the festival - ua-cam.com/video/_J2uiUUfueA/v-deo.html
I am not suggesting you react to those two videos but I am hoping you watch them and become a fan of Lzzy Hale. I do suggest you react to the newest music video from Lovebites which was released right before Christmas. The song is called Judgment Day and it is one of the stronger songs they have ever released - ua-cam.com/video/m3uGjp-P7DI/v-deo.html

One more time, thank you Rosalie for another amazing reaction and even more amazing analysis and comments to an amazing song and performance.
Lzzy Hale is actually one of my Top 5 female singers; her unique voice, style, and range are absolutely out of this world. You have got to check out Halestorm. Please.

This humming is called “throat singing”, special vocal technique, and it’s really ancient

The voice work is called throat singing. The Mongols are horse tribes of the steppes of Mongolia, so this is why the horse totems on instruments. Look into the history of this amazing country and its people. One in 5 people on earth is a distant descendant of the Great Chingus Kahn!

Love your reaction to this. This is definitely one of my favorites of theirs. I love that they asked Lzzy to be a part of this and how they both blended so beautifully. As always your comments are inspiring and thought provoking.

There is a lyric video ( but not this colab, the original song) that has all the Mongolian translated to English, I think you would find that interesting.
Also there is a "making-of" video that discusses how Lzzy got involved with this project with The Hu. I think you would really enjoy it because it gives a lot of insight into how this version became what it is.

    The chorus:
When kings fall to their knees,
    They sing a woman's song
When birds scream in the trees,
    They sing a woman's song
    The sunrise in the east
    Sings a woman's song
    Every heart that beats
    Sings a woman's song

First time watcher. Like every other reaction video I've see so far, at some point you gave in and started headbanging. Very common reaction to the Hu, even from this 70 year old rock fanatic. ;)
The aggressive side of masculinity is one side of a coin, the protective side is the other. Wolf Totem is one expression of that balance, this is another. Your rede of this is perfect.
Also, is it just me, or does the beginning resemble that of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir in that it seems to have been playing forever and what seems like the beginning is just where we came in? Appropriate for this song. My mother was before I was birn, my daughters and granddaughters will be after I die.
