      @Tassian : God really ? How dare you call "someone" who would help people to win competitions with far more influence than doping against women god ? And in the same way why would that "god" let hundreds of children and people to die everyday or to live in big poverty, plus countries destroying the planet ? If I would be a believer I would not call it "god" but quite the contrary, hopefully I don't believe in him or the other one, people are good or bad themselves and abusing about something is clearly something bad for everyone.
      Do you know how other women competing against Caster feel ? Caster him/herself revealed that "I do not feel supported by other women" recently and it's so obvious why ! Sport is about equality and is the only work that people can succeed regardless to their skin tone or their origins. Caster has a XY genotype so it's basically a man with female attributes and that's why we call it transgender. He/She has more testosterone and that's why he/she wins more competitions than Lance Armstrong did, this is not about god this is about something over than cheating.
      Fighting for transgender is a great cause but winning by abusing people is really really bad for everyone. Sport is based on equality that's why men and women are separated into categories and the solution does exist for transgenders : create a third category to let them compete in fairness and that would also give them more visibility during competitions thus helping the transgender cause !

      @Normani is better than Camila You are the one who is willingly stupid. Your hero Caster has been outed as male. That is why he lost the arbitration and appeals. He can't get his testosterone levels down low enough because he is a dude. Now he is trying to force himself on women's soccer. I hope the women kick his ass to the curb.

She refuses because at that level she is not competitive with women. Don't feel sorry for her. 99.9% of the people in the world cannot compete at Olympic levels. She is one of us. Caster is in a very, very difficult situation. She is more than likely somewhere kind of in between man and woman. She has internal genitalia, so in my opinion, she looks almost androgynous. As far as track and field, she is not running times that are even remotely competitive in the men's field. As a matter of fact, she is running top high boys times in the 800m and she has not broken the women's world record in that event. So I am inclined to believe that she probably has more testosterone than a woman, but not enough to classify her as a man. So maybe it's not really helping her performance-wise... She just happens to be running the fastest out of all the women in this event at this time. Bottom line, she is 10-15 seconds BEHIND the men in this event. That has to say something... Not sure there is a real solution to all this unless another category of "Other" was created. But that would only make things far more complicated and cause further stigma.

      He is a male. His lawyers revealed the truth, and the UK Sunday Times exposed this truth recently. This is why he lost in front of the arbitration panel although the panel did not disclose the fact he is a man. The issue is not her personality it whether a Intersex person should compete in the female class. I'm glad I watched this documentary. It humanized her for me, helped me understand the difficulty she and her family have had to face given her unique situation. It may appear that indeed she has an unfair advantage, and yet, it is not her fault. Initially, I thought that maybe she was really a male who's testicles and genitalia never descended, but that's not the case. Tests have shown her to be female with high levels of testosterone. Therefore, it's her right to compete with other females. To prevent her from running would be simply discriminatory and wrong. Nice to see after everything she went through she was able to come back in top form and succeed in the Rio Olympics.

      It’s a tough situation but it seems like it would be extremely unfair to the 99% of other female competitors to allow caster to compete. This advantage is obviously not her fault, but this situation lends itself to being unfair to one group or another so you have to weight the benefit of the majority and in this case it would be more fair to the majority to ban her from competing.

    I can't believe some people. Her entire life has been on display and criticized by people like you. Yes she may have manly qualities and more testosterone...but that is how she grew up and it's not as if she injected herself with testosterone like people who cheat! She never asked for this, it's the hand she was dealt and she deals with it on a constant basis. Imagine your biggest insecurity was put on display. At least she had guts to fight for what she wanted. And exactly what that video said we don't question abnormalities in men do we? Why do all the other athletes complain and bad-mouth another runner, why don't they concentrate on bettering themselves, accepting the challenge. Yes she might have an advantage, but that wasn't her choice and to put her next to men would be labeling her something she is not and putting her at a disadvantage. Is that fair either? Why not take this as a challenge and have empathy for her, to understand the courage it must have taken to have her world turned upside down and give her, her moment in life.

      Olympians aren't average women. I think people seem to forget this. At that level there is SO MUCH deviation from what is considered average, in all senses, that it becomes incredibly opaque to determine how much of an edge her elevated natural testosterone affords anyway. Also frequently forgotten is the training, skill, dedication and perseverance that she puts into her sport, just like any of the other competitors. She didn't just wake up this morning and decide to run the 800m. She's been training her whole life for this, and arguably has faced more DISADVANTAGE in her life than those athletes from more prosperous backgrounds.
      BTW Look up the symptoms of PCOS (another condition which produces elevated levels androgens in females)- it's the polar opposite of a "competitive edge" (characterised by weight gain and muscular atrophy). How the female body responds to elevated testosterone (particularly endogenous /naturally occurring testosterone) is a subject of extreme controversy because there is too much variation to define a standard set of clinical observations.

      So let's say that given all the disadvantages in training facilities and other things that Caster suffers she should be allowed to compete in the interests of fairness. What happens then when another inter sex athlete comes along except she is from a first world country. You've suspended or changed the rules to admit Caster and others like her - how do you deny a person with access to first world facilities who is inter sex? The answer is you can't.
      There have to be guidelines to protect women's sport just as there are guidelines to protect Paralympic sports. If an individual is visually impaired but doesn't meet the criteria for the Paralympics they don't compete. It doesn't matter where they came from or how hard they trained or how they self-identify.
      Saying that current tests are imperfect doesn't change the fact that we need to have eligibility guidelines.

    Does she have some masculine characteristics? Sure she does, but to no fault of her own. Her condition is a medical one and not as uncommon as people may think. There are many disorders that can impact secondary sexual characteristics. If she does indeed have this issue, the documentary explains logically how it does not give her an unfair advantage.

The only question is whether she’s a woman - and if she is, it doesn’t matter what natural genetic advantages she has. What do you call somebody born without a penis? A girl. And they grow up to be women. And some of these women produce more testosterone and can run fast. So what? Sports have never been genetically fair.

    Just Keep Running Semenya. That's all you want to do. I can't imagine
    how stressful this is, being judged and analyzed.We all have some
    biological differences some more than others, but you got to live and do
    what you love girl.
    Bolt has a genetic advantage so any female out there that has a genetic
    advantage should also be left alone to enjoy themselves on the track or whatever they do in life. There is a genetic reason Bolt is the fastest human on the planet; no one complains.
    Just because she is really good doesn't mean she shouldn't run with everyone else, no matter her condition. We all get sick or born the way we are. Let her be who she is. She has sisters and brothers and I'm sure her parents did the best to raise her the best as she is and who she is is just who she is and nobody can change that.
    There are some males that seem more feminine and the world is not bothering them. Just because you are so fast, people think they should place you where they think. If you were not winning, they wouldn't even care to come and judge your life and who you always been before they saw you are fast you are. You be who you are.
    The bottom line is you are faster than most people in this world.
    You are as fast as a woman and faster than many men like many Olympic
    athletes male or female are. You don't yet hold the world record, so go
    get it if you want it; keep training and try to get even faster.

    • @MaryofChrist
      @MaryofChrist 7 років тому +1

      She was born how she was born. Her mum named her who she came out as.
      Semenya has a goal and she is focused and that makes her powerful. We
      all should go get our own focus and our own power and priorities instead
      of criticize her for for trying. Some people don't even try.
      The truth is most people or everyone finds flaws on their own body or
      character. Semenya is wise enough to accept who she is as who she is and
      who God decided she is and she has no problem with it; unlike most
      people. You will be a mess if people started calling those flaws (you
      think are flaws) out
      everyday. You wouldn't be able to stand the pressure. We are all a
      mystery when we are born and we must embrace ourselves and let others
      embrace themselves best they can. At least she accepts herself and she
      runs because she loves it and she can do that on
      her own and she is determined to be the best she can be. Not many
      people are so focused.
      I am pretty sure if she ran for presidency or something people like
      males to do and if she was really good at it; people will start telling
      her she is a female and they don't want her to rule. They will find
      reasons to tell her that she is not a man if she was trying to be a king
      and she was good at it.
      We humans are a living contradiction.
      Many female Olympics athletes are better at many sports than men. Many
      males cannot catch the fastest female runners.
      If a male was born that had female traits, nobody will complain if that
      man competed with males. If Bolt looked and sounded like a female but is
      a male, people wouldn't tell him to go run with females. They wouldn't
      want the fastest human being to be female.
      If a female was born that has masculine traits, people complain that
      female is competing with females IF SHE IS REALLY GOOD. If she isn't
      good, people wouldn't complain.
      Whatever you look like, feel like, your psychology is your business at
      the end of the day. We are all a phenomenon. When you get born, you can
      come out however and you have to embrace it and roll with it. Her mum
      saw a female and called Semenya a female.
      It's now unnecessary to try to give her so much stress and depression
      because we are not satisfied.

    I have read all the comments about Caster, and I have more respect for her because at least she's not trying to be something other than what she is. She is not hiding or lying about her anatomical differences or her preference for women unlike these men who get married and raise kids pretending to be straight only to come out 15 to 20 years later wearing women's clothes and cramming their big rusty feet in women's shoes. Caster has no choice but to be who and what she is because she was born this way, but these other low-down creeps who drag unsuspecting people into webs of lies and fake relationships infecting women with diseases and destroying families can choose to be hetero, homo, or bi. What choice does she have, and is it her fault that her family chose to raise her as a girl if she was really born a boy? The fault is not with her but with the double-standard in society that people use to harass others when they can't comfortably categorize or control them. By the way, all you female haters should look in the mirror because, by some standards, you might not fit the description of a woman either.

I encourage everyone who has a comment to take a look at the world record holder at that distance and tell me that she does not have "manly features". Regardless, Caster works her ass off and perhaps instead of complaining about her "advantages", the other athletes should work harder to set a world record themselves. That's what sports and track and field are all about.

    This is what excellence is. Every brilliant person has exceptional abilities look at Einstein, Phelps, Bolt... same ingredients they have inherent competitive advantage.
    Thats what it is.

      Alright. I have a voice so low that I am often mistaken for a man over the phone. I gain muscle mass more quickly than most women (without the use of drugs). I'm pretty flat-chested and have a masculine build. And yet my birth certificate and ultrasound photos are clearly marked with FEMALE. Am I "too manly" to be a woman?

      I don't know. However, I do know that with testicles and testosterone levels 5-10 higher than an average woman, having Caster (XY Chromosomes) run with biological women (xx chromosome) will destroy women's sport. Perhaps there is another category that she can compete in.

    The problem of finding a specific criteria to divide women and men in sports is a very hard complex problem. We must all participate in this discussion without fighting because the answer is not simple and there are many valid arguments, its not just black and white, there are not two sides.

    So what if she has an 'alleged' genital disorder? What if her built is not what society has deemed "normal"? What if she has a deep voice? What if she is lesbian? None of that matters. Many people fall within one or more of these categories. People just have a problem with these things when they do not suit *them*. Leave Caster be. Let her be proof that one's "deformities" can be advantageous! Congrats Caster!

    • @goalie9198
      @goalie9198 8 років тому +4

      She's not deformed or disordered as you say. There's nothing "wrong" with her. She should be able to live her life as a woman, marry a woman, get a job as a doctor, bus driver or English professor. But in order to qualify to run in a woman's event you must be able to meet certain criteria. The failure of the sports establishment to clarify or enforce those guidelines has brought us to where we are now. As a result her competitors are at a severe and unfair disadvantage.

      Whuuuh! Do you not understand the use of inverted comma's in my statement or you just failed to read? I am not saying she's "deformed", simply quoting what the media says. Deformity is subjective.
      Also, the human is complicated being. How does one draw a line as to what is female and what is not? I think it's totally fair, she's female. Period! Those that are complaining are complaining because she is doing much better than her competitors.
      She's within the females' world record so why is everyone calling her abilities into question? I repeat, leave Caster be!

      @kwenasekwakwa-zafirovski1843 8 років тому

    • @goalie9198
      @goalie9198 8 років тому

      How does one draw a line? For example, this is exactly what they must do to prove eligibility for the Paralympics. You have to have a certain level of disability. Somebody one inch over the height limit is going to have their dream crushed when they are told they can't compete.
      This shouldn't be about how the athlete feels or how they "self-identify". A person may see themselves as disabled but ultimately they may not be disabled enough.
      You have to give some thought to the other competitors who do meet the standard. They have competed for this Olympic or Paralympic dream for just as long as the ones who are excluded and they shouldn't be unfairly disadvantaged.

    • @kwenasekwakwa-zafirovski1843
      @kwenasekwakwa-zafirovski1843 8 років тому

      Like I said, the human body functions in a very complex manner and differs greatly from person to person.
      Caster has been tested and they let her compete because they couldn't find anything solid against her. The people that are trusted to conduct tests and make decisions on questionable athletes saw her fit to compete. It's not just because of how she "self-identifies".
      If you have issues with their judgment, maybe you should request to join the board of athletics decision makers...See how that goes

  • @yjk5737
    @yjk5737 5 років тому +4

    The IAAF should have just had chromosome testing done quietly and dismissed Caster in private if they came back male. Then there's no cover-up and no leaking. Trying to weasel around the rules is what led to the leaking and speculation.

    For the past several years, Caster's coach and team have been very wise on when they allow her to race. They know that they can't allow her to dominate especially the Gran Prix/Diamond League international meets where there is a lot of prize money. If they do so they will find that no women will show up to compete with her, and the meet sponsor will not have a women's 800. If you look at her times when she was 18 they are comparable to a good high school boy 800m runner. 1:55-2:00 is pretty typical. Is she male or female? Probably neither. There is a fair amount of gray area in between. Does she have a genetic advantages over 99% of females in International athletics? Undeniably.

    José María Odriozola, professor of biochemistry and member of the Directing Council of the IAAF - until September -, came out in defense of the regulations on hyperparathyroidism introduced by the IAAF and explained that the South African Caster Semenya, the most relevant case, "is biologically a man". And when it comes to racing, she has "a huge advantage" over her rivals. "She says the IAAF is against her, but the rules are for everyone. Her case comes from the World Cup in Berlin 2009. She has XY chromosomes, like the men, and then a series of hormonal internal controls that make him hyperogenic. We do not enter his denomination as a woman, but that he is biologically a man, with characteristics, in some aspects, not totally anatomically defining of man, but has an advantage huge, that is why there are competitions of men and women, "he told EFE Odriozola, one of the promoters of the issue being dealt with in the IAAF Board of Directors, in which That takes twenty years.

      Oh yes it is forbidden ... by the IAAF, the IOC, and WADA. In fact they banned him initially because taking any type of steroid is illegal and biologically that is what her system has been doing. It is not illegal to be tall, fat short, black or white or any other color. He has testes which produce testosterone that give him a huge advantage over any other women as they don't have testicles. The muscle mass which men produce comes in large part from testosterone. That's why a tall girl won't be as fast as a tall guy. So to be fair he should run with the men and everything would be fine. He can't because if he did his career would be over. He was formerly banned from racing by WADA but reinstated after an avalanche of law suits from the Government of South Africa. I feel sorry for him as an individual but despite that it's unfair to the rest of the women.

    It seem she is absolutely genotypically, phenotypically and physiologically male with a congenital developmental abnormality of the external genitalia which is nothing unheard of at all to anybody in the medical profession. She clearly benefits from performance advantages due to her masculinized physiology (increased muscle mass, biomechanical advantages due to male skeletal proportions, almost certainly an increased VO2 max as well due to male thoracic cage dimensions and proportions). The complexities here are due to someone with her condition being born in a village in Africa without the complex gender identity issues that now exist in the developed world. Her mannerisms in the video are very masculine as well and I believe had she been born in the developed world this would have been recognized early on and after appropriate medical investigation she would probably have grown up as a boy and this current situation would never have developed in the first place. Would have also avoided her all this disgraceful scrutiny and public discourse over these intensely personal issues.

    everyone is arguing that she wants to be a woman, so let her be a woman ... but she doesn't act like a woman, she doesn't dress like a woman, she married a female, wore male uniform at school ... just in competition she wants to run with women. and having an advantage being a man (she does have male sex organs), that's good for her - but its not for others who compete with her. and saying she can be what she believes to be ... so then an average male runner can decide he's a woman and compete with women and start winning too ...

      Ellen is a lesbian. But does she have more male hormones? Does she have internal male sex organs? That doesnt matter - cuz theres no male/female category in tv presenting. Thats what in talking about. So if they wanna argue that everyone can chose if theyre a man or a woman then lets just make one category in sports and go back to when women werent even allowed to compete in sports - cuz guess what - women wont even qualify 🤨

    • @Lina_al_j

      And one other thing - if she really is a woman and she wants to compete with women she has a choice - she can reduce her testosterone and thats it. Why does she have such a problem with it? If she really feels like and is a woman, she can do that - it will even benefit her in that sense.
