Magnificent work! Living in Rome in the 90's I looked with amazement at this baldichino a few times a week ( loved mailing letters home from the Vatican ) and always would find something new and beautiful. How little I knew even after years of study of this splendid monument. How many people knew that all the bronze came from the ceiling of the portico of the Pantheon? The columns themselves can occupy your entire day. Going above into the dome and looking down is unforgettable! Thank you Knights of Columbus and thank you for this inspiring video which has renewed my interest!
Congratulations to your great achievement! We hope that the next video after this will FEATURE in detail the extraordinary works that you did and SHOWING the FINISHED PRODUCT with all its splendor. Adding into a "before and after" photos would be marvelous as one would see the tremendous difference thereafter. The video you've just shown to us in essence is just the summary of everything ...the history of the baldacchino and the photos which sadly focused more on the exterior rather than shoelwing more photos of the baldacchino itself. IT DID NOT EMPHASIZE the FINISHED PRODUCT ITSELF. We hope you can show THE WORLD the DIFFERENCE. Thank you so much for your WONDERFUL WORK, knights of Columbus! May God bless your organization more! (The film showing the fullness of the baldacchino without the scaffoldings was shot prior to the restoration. We hope you have shown the ACTUAL RESTORED VERSION.)
The full splendour can be seen in the UA-cam video of the Papal Mass after its unveiling, on 27th October ‘24. About 40 mins. in and from then on ahown several times. It is stunning, and was last restored only in 1758, I think. It is now sparkling. +
You are right! I have just taken some wonderful screen-grabs from that service. There are great close-ups at the end and also of the chair of St Peter. Thank you!
Yes, but... while a good production, you never showed the restored baldachin in its fullness. Only bits and pieces of it. Is it done? I was disappointed that the restored work was not shown in its full grandeur. It seemed that the brief footage was from pre-restoration footage as one could still see the dirt and grime still on it. Perhaps some day...
@@albertsmyth9616It is fully restored now and the baldachin was on full display last Sunday at the mass that concluded the Synod of Bishops. The Cathedra Petri, the old papal throne that has not been visible to the public for at least a century, that is otherwise stored in the Bernini altar behind the baldachin is on display in front of the right front pilar of the baldachin. It will be on display until December 8th, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
When you house the Body and Blood of Christ, you give him a fitting dwelling. What are all these people going to see? A House of God made of cardboard? No, they going to try get a glimpse of Infinite Beauty as much as you can in this earthly life.
Absolutely magnificent beautiful

To go to church here, is more intimidating than anything.

I was there a month ago and it is still being restored.
The splendour will be revealed in the year of Jubilee. This is the story of the restoration, not the revealing of the Baldacchino in all its glory.

@@peterpluim7912 Good to know. Thank you. I can’t wait to see it.
Temple of the Sun.
Say his name: Bernini
I don't think this is what Jesus had in mind.

It's so out of place that NorthAmerican of the US be speaking about Catholic stuff
Nah US Catholicism is on fire.
I am a Catholic American. You cannot deny the beauty of this Holy place.
