- In this painting tutorial you will discover a different approach to landscape painting. In this video, I'll be painting a panoramic landscape in a small format, but with a twist. By using a loose and energetic painting style, you will see how to convey a sense of space and distance in a compact composition. And to top it off, I'll be framing the oil painting with matte board and behind glass for a beautiful finished product. Whether you're a seasoned landscape painter or just starting out, this video has something for everyone. So sit back and enjoy the video!

Thank you too
Like magic, everything Malcolm does turns out great.
Ah thanks Terrie!
Thank you Malcolm! You specifically illustrated here one of the aspects of painting I was wondering about - how to tackle a wide, open landscape, of which we have such abundance in our country. I have tried some, but, as always, I put in too much detail. Your demonstration will be very valuable to me. Your painting is lovely and the framing so effective. Love it!
I'm happy it helps and inspires you Sophie. Enjoy your painting.

♥️😍♥️ simply gorgeous. You make it look so effortlessly easy... I'm good at messing up even easy-looking things, looks like a challenge for me! 😅 Thank you Malcolm, beautiful little gem. 🌹♥️
Thank you Marina 😁 I'm sure you can easily make a beautiful painting
This was extremely helpful. Seeing the progression from small color study to larger canvas, really gave me the opportunity to further study how you used color, brush work & edges to bring action & perspective to the piece.
I also appreciated hearing you say, “people aren’t going to analyze the painting from a botanical point of view…but how it makes them feel, does the color provoke an emotional response?”
I frequently get caught up in accuracy vs excitement. But you always add color that isn’t necessarily seen, but felt!
Now if I can get my mind out of the way if my emotion. Thank you for all you share with us.
Yes that is the way - have fun!
Wonderful, Malcolm! I’m always inspired by your work.
Many thanks!

Mooie boeta Malcolm. 👍

So much amazing information in one little painting! How do you desaturate a color? So beautiful, the single strokes and shapes ("notes") :) Thank you, Teri
Thank you Teri. Basically you desaturate a color by adding another color to it. Could be its complement to take out its intensity. Adding white also cools and removes intensity.
Wonderful. Every time i see One of your videos I want to give oils a go (ive used everything under the sun almost EXCEPT oils. Guess its the use of turpentine or anything that isn't water to dilute that puts me off. )
Go for it! You can get serval non-toxic mediums, like Zest-It and brush cleaners too. No need for turps anymore.
@@MalcolmDewey thanks I'll look into it!
I love it, I'm going to try it today with a picture I took in the Rocky Mountains! So it is okay to put oil under glass? Seems like I've heard it can be a problem but I'm not sure why?
Enjoy it. should be fine once dry. Matte keeps it off the glass.
