Great part 2! It's always so abrupt when you're walking along, in the zone and a rattler snaps you out of it. I'm amazed how close I get and then make an audible "yow!" running backward. I once ran into 5 in a single day on a 30 mile stretch of the Black Forest Trail and Susquehannock Trail. Needless to say, I was on edge the entire day. I'm staying at Kettle Creek Lower campground right on the creek with my wife, 2 year old daughter and 5 year old daughter at the end of June. Doing a backpacking trip somewhere in the PA Wilds with my wife the following week. I'm using your videos for location inspiration. Can't wait!
The anticipation of running into another after having an encounter is what really gets me. I’d be mentally wore out after a day of snake encounters! Good thing they rattle though! Hope you have a great time at the lower camp ground I heard they have showers there! Happy trails to you and your family!
Thanks Jeremy! Love your videos and was waiting for season2. Can’t wait for the next episode. Been planning DHT for a couple of years and hoping to do it this summer. Thanks for the motivation!
I'm always amazed how much time and effort is put forth by some small (subscriber-wise, no insult intended!) UA-cam content providers that is so good and entertaining that I wonder when the masses are going finally to show up ang give you the viewership you deserve! In the meantime, thanks for taking the time to provide these videos for those of us that appreciate your efforts.
Wow thanks a lot! I really enjoy the whole process from planning the trips to telling the story. It’s always great to hear that others enjoy the end product. Comments like this make all the work worth it!☺️
This was nice. Crossing over the beaver bridge area was crazy. So much flooding. I loved seeing all the tree stumps sticking out of the water. That rattlesnake was a little too close. Whenever I see a snake I’m usually right on top of it too. I heard the noise too. I thought it was thunder a few times. Too bad about the rain. 18-19 miles is a lot for a hike. I have never hiked that far in a day. 👍51
Thank you, Craig. Sometimes the miles just roll right by then sometimes it’s like moving in slow motion but after almost stepping on a snake definitely slows me down for a while! Hope your enjoying the summer✌️
A growling tree. That's a new one. It's cool that you happened to be recording and caught the sound. Oh, I never knew OST was part of the Underground Railroad. That is very interesting. There is a southern part of it in Simon B. Elliott State Park and I always wondered if it used to connect to the part you were on. Now I think it must have at one time. Well, lovin' the series so far!
So much to unpack from this video, great stuff. The Donut Hole origin story was awesome really loved hearing that, your musical choices were 👌🏼 for this video. The rattlesnake and tree noise part was hilarious I know that exact feeling after running into one every stick and noise you hear is another rattlesnake haha, looking forward to seeing kettle creek and part 3 man, keep it up!
Thank you so much! I need a bigger selection of music to use because I like to work with that part of the videos so much. Maybe something we can talk about in the future! The rattlesnake encounter was fun but falling trees is one of my biggest fears out there alone. It was something to capture that sound on camera!
What an enjoyable watch from the comfort of my home! Looks like one heck of a journey and struggling through with the rain and all the elevation, and everything else. Interesting tidbit of history on the creation of the Donut Hole Trail, I have never really heard anything good about that trail. Incredible work man, very inspiring, thank you.
Thanks Walter! After being on the DHT a few times already I can totally see how that’s a true story. I couldn’t imagine the struggles of building a trail. We owe a lot to those CCC workers.
Enjoy watching this hike. You really show the wildness of this area with your filming and editing as well as your description of what you are feeling and seeing.
That was a weird sounding tree lol. I thought it was a growl when I first heard it. That long shot towards the beginning takes a lot of effort, hiking in, setting up the camera then walking all the way back to get the shot. kudos
I've heard a lot of trees creak in the woods but never like that. It definitely stopped me in my tracks. Surprisingly that shot of me walking away only took 6 minutes. I remember walking up and saying to myself, okay this is far enough but I just kept going lol.
Appreciate your videos. Only thing I’d “suggest” knowing these are your videos and not mine e would be the music is a bit depressing at times. Other than that…I really enjoying following along on your hikes.
Point taken. I do agree about the music. Sometimes I choose a track and go with that theme and sometimes I try to portray the mood. I do seem to go the melancholy route most of the time. I hope to find a bigger (free) music catalog to choose from one day soon. Appreciate the comment and thanks for following along!
Looking forward to the next video. I’m also interested to see if your shoes continue to hold out. I had the model previous to yours and they started to fall apart after a 100 miles or less. When you came through Sinnamahoning was there any stores or anything you passed by? I think you at least mentioned a restaurant if I remember right.
Only Willows restaurant was nearby. I was hoping to pass a gas station or convenience store but didn’t see any. The lone peaks held up okay after about 130 miles but I noticed when they were wet constantly the insoles would slide around and cause creasing in them which was uncomfortable and annoying. I’ll start to complain about them in the next video. Thanks for coming along on this adventure!
They are REI brand. Pretty old version of what they have now but pretty much the same. I removed the straps that go under the foot to prevent tripping.
I did. I did my best to map out this route on Alltrails and downloaded it to my phone. I didn’t rely on it all the time because I was watching on conserving my phone battery but it came in handy a few times. That DHT section going into camp was rough navigating. (Blowdowns and very few markers) I wish I could have filmed more of it then but the wet weather made my touch screen almost impossible to use. DHT is a beast in some sections I know you know first hand. Thanks for watching!
Another enjoyable episode! Those “dam” beavers 🦫 lol How many people have done this trek so far? I hope it gets more popular and Pennsylvania gets the recognition it deserves for a great hiking state. Rattlesnakes 🐍 and talking trees 🌴 make for an exciting hiking day! 😃 You definitely got what it takes to do longer distance trails in my humble opinion 👍
@@fivehorizons5295 thank you, friend that means a lot coming from you. The PA Wilds route will eventually be a loop around 300 miles. The Keystone Trail Association has it in the works and will be opened sometime next year or shortly after. I’ve been honored to attend some meetings to help introduce it to the public and can’t wait to share what I’ve learned. As for this particular route in my video I think quite a few people have hiked it but it’s still not widely known but I see that changing soon. The link to this route is in the description to my videos.

im a Pa boy and planning some pa section hikes this year. Glad to find some more trails through you to go hike
Glad you found the channel, I’m happy to help out! Hope you have a great time on whichever section you pick!

Beavers, rattlesnakes, and groaning trees, oh my. Thanks for sharing!

Now this is a great feel good comment. Hearing stuff like this makes it easier to keep on creating. 👍
Phenomenal editing once again! They say the campsite at the ruins in the Quehanna Wilds is haunted.
That would be a creepy place to camp especially with a fire to cast shadows on the ruins. Thanks again!
Nice video, hike on brother !
Thank you!
An awesome hike so far. It's always nice when you know where camp will be at the end of the day.
Yeah that was a nice feature to have along the route. Thanks for following along!

Thanks John! The tree right after the snake was enough excitement for this guy that day! Thanks again for the ride to the trailhead!

Thanks for taking us along! We love the entire area around Quehanna, Wykoff, and Sinnemahoning!
I really enjoyed that section too! Thanks for coming along!
Dang! 1st that snake then the widow maker tree noise?!... That would have my heart pumping for sure!
That was enough excitement in a short amount of time for this guy.😅
I'm really enjoying your videos from this hike!
Thank you very much I’m glad you’re enjoying the series! Part 3 will be up tonight!

I sat on this footage for a few days before I decided how I wanted to tell the story. Thanks as always for the kind comments, Darcy!!☺️

Can you share the brand of gaiters you are using?
They are REI brand. Pretty old version of what they have now but pretty much the same. I removed the straps that go under the foot to prevent tripping.
Did you have gps tracking for this route ? All tho doesn’t look hard
