I see you getting some negative comments but as an owner of a 2001 Mercedes ml320 I am thrilled for cheap fixes. I am a 68 yr old woman and was able to get cold air blowing by doing part of this Took glove box out, sprayed lubricant in there and sort of tapped on unit with screwdriver and is now blowing cool air. Have to adjust up sometimes due to clicking noise but if need be will take rod out. Thanks for explanation.
Diane Smith understands, the reason for the video is options! Negative comments are from lazy people who critique, but haven't taken the time or effort to do anything with their knowledge to help anybody. It's easy to sit back and be a critic! If one suggestion helps somebody like yourself to save money it's worth the arrows. Thanks and GOOD LUCK.
I’ve done similar to a truck minus the rod . Where it’s now permanent to blow cool air. No need for hot air in CA. Thank you for sharing this info and your knowledge on car repair. 🙏
That was a great walk through the areas, and yes, don't kill yourself on every little bit keeping it prestine and stock for a cheap, non collectable older mb. My 2001 ml320 with 240k miles has its own interesting revisions because it's just a simple commuter mini work truck. Just popped in to see if there was anything extra to check as to why my hvac fan stopped working, it's new, and it's 15f degrees outside so not a good time to lolly gag figuring it out working on it outside.
@@ogsgarage7889 I noticed they yanked the stereo, likely the same problem as all of them and mine, FM and CD player stopped functioning and no fix exists. My work around was just using the cassette player to cell phone/mp3 input to restore new functionality. Also, my left turn signal stopped working, and there are several sub assemblies you have to tear into with no gaurantee's at all you are going to fix it, the shops and dealerships can't handle it but will take your money attempting to fix. I just soldered in a toggle switch and relay/timer, that's a bit jerry riggie but it's functional.
Why you get BAD comments, when I know you are trying hard. - Put your camera on a tripod to show each action, with some coloured arrows,- waveing it about in your hand will NOT work ever. [ retired shop teacher ]
Thanks for doing this, I am going to try it. One question, when this is done, is your rod position going to be either full in one position or the other, position (EG: full hot or full cold) or 1: can you still use some trial and error to position it, or: 2: if you set the temp dial to a certain location, and then move the rod, does rod automatically get positioned at that temperature that corresponds to what you selected on the temperature selector dial?
The door will open to full cold or full hot You will not be able to go between temperatures. I regulated the heat/ cold flow by the fan speed. If you really need temp control replacing the motor would be the way to go which would require the dash removal or carefully cutting an access hole in your firewall...or ??
@@ogsgarage7889 Thanks for the reply. At the moment I cannot seem to move the plastic arm in spite of moving the temp control dial to hot or cold. But it did move last spring when I manually moved it by hand. Later today I plan to remove that horizontal bar as you suggest and see what happens. After looking around one item I may have to use for a push rod may be an old whip from a VHF antenna. I'm thinking that your idea to cut a hole in the firewall is also a good one, the question being what is the best way. Obviously, Mercedes engineers should have designed these with an access door built into it, just like they did for the fuel pump. Also BTW, I recharge the aircon system in our ML430 (and various other vehicles) every year using 2 cans of difluoroethane (Dust-Off), and a Mastercool 3 in 1 Side Mount Can Tap Valve (Part #85530).
Your made rod goes in the hole where the small horizontal bar is removed from otherwise the horizontal bar will keep the plastic swivel from moving and will still be held from moving freely by the bad motor. It's important as you know to maintain the proper pressure.@@MountainParameters
@@ogsgarage7889 Interesting. I popped the horizontal bar off, and inserted a right angle pick into the plastic tab to test. Seems to be stuck solid in the 'cool' position and I cannot move it back or forth in spite of changing the temp dial all the way to hot or cold. I do recall that when I first adjusted that piece about 6 months ago from hot to cool it moved freely, so I'm surprised that it is seized now. So after watching another video, I realized that it is the horizontal bar that changes the position of the blend door, not the plastic articulating arms (which are attached to the faulty and seized actuator assembly). So by grabbing the horizontal bar with a long pair of needle nose pliers, I find I can easily move the blend door to the open and closed positions with no resistance at all. I am surprised that your method works because with the horizontal bar not connected to anything, I can't see how your blend door is actually being adjusted.
Yes, I had this problem too. The blend motor that controls this is still working, just not the way it's supposed to. I will be driving down the freeway with it pushed in, and it will switch to hot. Either replace the little motor or disconnect the wires and do it manually as shown in the video (either way you are probably going to need to remove the passenger airbag to get to it). It could also be that your AC compressor is cycling on and off when it's not supposed to. You can tell by checking the pipes as he showed and making sure they stay cold.
Hello. I am doing your "rod" solution now. It looks like you leave the existing motor in place. Do you disconnect the electric cable only? How do you prevent the resistance of the motor without power to it? I am thinking to open the motor and remove some gears.
Hello, Assuming your motor is fried everything can be left in place. the small vertical rod needs to be removed from the hole where you will place the long rod in. Once you remove that small rod you lose all connection to the action of the motor. No need to open the motor.
Just changing the flap is not the problem Michel! It's the motor that moves the flap that's the problem! It's a tremendous effort to remove the dash to get to the motor. To the Texan and McCool,! Nobody said this is a permanent solution! If you want to spend a week removing your dash, breaking wires and hoses go at it! Not everyone has your guys kind of money and time to hire a specialist to get it done! Otherwise spend an hour.
OG's Garage good man they don’t have the same problem that’s why I did same like you the value of my car is to low and I not going to spend 1500 hundred to fix it thank you

My 2000 ml 320 sunroof leaked bad from the run-off tubes getting severely plugged up. I've since applied duct tape to the sun roof. That problem shorted out most of my electrical goodies. Hello, It sounds like you have a small leak somewhere in your system. You should not have to charge it every year. I suggest you have somebody who does air conditioning check it for you. The problem with small leaks is they're hard to locate unless you have the proper knowledge and equipment. Good Luck
Here in 2022, I'm the second owner on my 98 ml320. Still still running and this helped me so much! We really appreciate you!
Glad it helped!

Sorry for my english
All you master mechanics who want to spend$1500 on a ml that's worth$1200,

15:16 -- the "fix" (manual actuator rod), is followed up by "just drill a little hole in your dash".
That is some faunsay cuban engineering.
Classy.
Thanks for the video I was able to fix my problem. It was a broken wire that plugs into the compressor 👍
Glad you got it fixed
On a ml320 ? Where and what doe that wire looks like
It’s a small single wire I think it is blue or black
