  • Spinosaurus aegyptacus goes fishing in a late-Cretaceous river.
    This one took me a long time, mainly because of work and study but also partially because of how many times I had to paint a new background! :P
    Sound effects partially from Pixabay.com, and partially recorded by me.

    I like that you didn't make the Spinosaurus look like a monster like most media tries to do. It looks more natural and expressive, like it would have in real life. I've never seen anything like your animations before.

    Finally someone who depicts the spinosaurus acting like a predator instead of a killing machine. Even most documentaries i've watched made dinosaurs look more terrifying than they probably ever were. (And yes, i know this sounds weird looking at this humongous animal.) The birds also make it feel more realistic.

    This is just gold! I love how static and peaceful everything is when spino is waiting for prey. Then the sudden, instant attack! So real behaviour.
    As a lego animator, I get the rough idea how much time and effort your kind of animation surely takes, but I do hope that one day you get to animate a long paleodocumentary.

    I am loving your style. It reminds me in many ways of Ralph Bakshi, was he one of your influences by chance? The little touches are great. Like the birds roosting on it's back, and the Spino's complete tolerance of them. Just like modern crocs. Adds touch of realism that is probably accurate. Keep it up. I seriously think you have a future in this, if it's something you wanna pursue.

    • @cenospire
      @cenospire  14 днів тому +1

      Thank you! I can't say I'd ever seen the work of Ralph Bakshi, I'll definitely check it out. My main inspirations for animation have generally been things like Studio Ghibli and classic Disney. More broadly though, one of my greatest artistic inspirations of all time has definitely been the work of the late William T. Cooper, who was an incredible painter of wildlife and landscapes.
      Also a future doing my own animation projects for a living would be a dream come true, I'd jump at the chance!

    Did the fish come to the spinosaurus because of the shadow it casted on the water? Would be a nit hypothesis, small fish would come to a spinosaurus in water for protection and shade which would then attract bigger fish which spinosaurus could then catch.

      There's plenty of evidence it was semi-aquatic, it just doesn't seem to have been an agile diver or full swimmer. Wading might be more likely. Whatever it was doing, it was definitely spending a lot of time in and/or around water. It's just tricky figuring out exactly *what*.
