I know you probably already know how to put on strap locks, but I like making videos like this sometimes for people who might need them. FYI, here's a link to the strap locks I use in this video (I got them because these are the only black strap locks I could find): amzn.to/2rSqgSG
do a shred war with jared dines !!!
I bought the exact same strap locks a few months ago at Thomann.
RESPOND TO JARED DINES!
Tyler already has a wife
I bought the same ones for the same reason.
No matter what kind of strap locks I may have... I would NEVER swing a PRS around like that. I'm too poor.
Jacob Trull same
I use ernie ball ones and I would trust them with my life
He only swung it around like that because PRS endorses him they probably would have just given him a new one for free
prs doesnt endorse him they just like each other... more than friends
I feel you bro
even with straplocks I'd be too paranoid to swing my guitar like that
Honestly I don’t think I’d ever do that unless I intended on breaking the guitar at some point (extreme rare)
it hurt to see that guitar drop in the beginning
Jebus it cost him like $10 and it's old and broken anyway
I still burst out laughing.
By the looks of your profile pic, you didn't see it happen anyways.
Instructions unclear, got strap stuck in the ceiling fan.
zzz my dick strap got stuck!!!
...ok, this just getting daft now.
funny. laughed
W comment
drops black guitar, locks red guitar
Rishon Singh Tha black one broke... he had to a buy a new one.
That's racist.
Hermesoδ no it isnt dafuq?
Lmao
Ok but how to install strap-on ?
LMAOOO
You’re gonna need to go to a different type of video website for that one
I did 69 th like... Nice
Bruh
IVE ONLY HAD MY GIITAR FOR THREE DAYS AND EVEN I KNOW 💀💀💀
I've learned from working with a lot of wood (PHRASING) that it's always a good idea to lubricate the screws with a bit of soap. That when when the friction heats up the screw it won't break, and it will make it easier to get the screw out in case you ever need to.
interesting. never heard of that.
I'm left handed so can you make another video doing it left?
le dai minh same thing!
@@jimparaster8236 woooosh
Hilarious
But what is the *wrong* way?
Saem Iftikhar wrong way it to literally hammer a huge screw into your guitar and make it look ghetto as fuck. and yes I have seen them like that...
Saem Iftikhar the way I used to do it before watching this video.
that sounds horrible, yet intriguing
Saem Iftikhar I was putting the strap onto the strap mounts and then putting the locks, and not fixating the strap in the locks and then putting the locks onto the strap mounts, like Tyler has shown here, if that makes any sense to you.
makes sense, but the way a friend of mine did it was just superglue the strap to the guitar
Something I always do and recommend to anyone is: After you removed the original pin and its screw you put some wood glue and a match (the non lighting up side) into the holes. It will harden out in a couple of minutes and will give additional strength to the strap lock.
your advice was useful and it help me, but I used a toothpick instead a match, thank you!
@@theredibanezguy3826 you should use a toothpick. better wood.
Y'all rich people using straps. I just use a Laptop bag strap and wire from coat hangers.
This is great, thank you! Concise, right to the point, and yet very clear and doesn't gloss over anything. Just what I needed.
1:58 "You can use a wrench for this part if you need to"
Well, you NEED to. You need to tighten the shit out of that nut. Otherwise it will definitely get loose over time and eventually the lock will fall off the strap. If you've got some Loctite or other superglue around, I would even put a small drip on the threads to make sure it's not going anywhere.
Yeah, this happened to a friend of mine years ago, the original screw bored the hole out, so now his new smaller screw just flopped in, not enough screw thickness for the treads to grab on to, our bass player, told him to put a toothpick in the bored out hole with some superglue..... His mom, walking into the room, and only catching part of the conversation, said he should just get a new girlfriend............When we all were finally able to stop laughing, I asked him if he wanted me to try mine.... ;) It really was funny, you just had to be there..........
But can it survive a guitar flip/spin?
always use the wrench people, the nut went loose on one of my straps. It was a hard lesson that I will never unlearn.
Bump this golden oldie- I just started following your channel about a year ago, then randomly tonight I decided to UA-cam search "install strap locks" . The last set I self-installed ended up stripping out on a 76 Gibson SG. Yikes.
So, I wanted to take every precaution and ensure I was doing it the safe and correct way this time.
And lo' and behold, 3rd video in the search is this old goodie.
I bout the Dunlops, so this tute is moot. However, I wanted to view this one anyway just to see how far you've come.
Nice channel, bro.
Nice playing there in the intro! Well done.
Hey, thanks man. Y'know, as long as I've been playing (since 1970; didn't say I was any good) I've never had occasion to use strap locks, so this was actually new to me. May go for it on future guitars, got a couple builds in the works. And the self-locking straps sound like a good idea, but I've yet to see a good report about 'em. So, strap locks it is.
For those of you working about remaking a hole for the screw, break some toothpicks off in it and it practically makes it brand new and will hold the screw tighter.
Liked for the video and especially the background music. Reminded me of Harvest Moon (Story of Seasons) or Rune Factory video games and other past happy memories.
the pick attack of the distorted electric reminds me of malmsteen, who also used to swing his guitar around
I loved the little e-girl dance at the end
Thanks for the video. I know it's really dumb, but I couldn't figure out which side of the strap to put the washer and bolt (or whether they should even be on the same side). This video helped cleared that up for me.
You should always lubricate the screws with wax to make it easier to install the screws! On my straps I always use blue loctite and tighten with a socket or nut driver! I usually take things to another level but can't be to careful when working on expensive instruments!
thats what she said!!
@@sleevelessace Did the word lubricate make you randy? Grow the F up!
Brilliant. This video was so helpful for visually impaired people. Cheers for the extra effort - much appreciated.
This video actually helped me get the locks on the strap. I thought I was doing it wrong but the video said otherwise
thank to you video I can put my new strap locks on my Ibanez!, I only was need to cut a little fabric on the strap to be able to put the lock on it and everything works perfect!, thank you dude!
The rubber gaskets off of Grolsch Beer bottles are cheap, beer is great and they work great.
Glad I watched this it was helpful since I just ordered strap lock for my guitar, thank a lot. 👍
Before you tighten the nut on the strap fully, leave it slightly loose and put on the guitar, it'll let the strap adjust to the angle you wear it properly, then tighten fully.
Can you do a turtorial how to clean the fretboard?
Hddr Rrew He has one I think
Realy? whats the name?
just ask your mom
Fuck All That Pop Shit if it’s rosewood, use some type of oil, such as kyser lemon oil, with a microfibre cloth. If it is a maple fretboard, use a dry cloth
FRETBOARD OIL AND GUITAR POLISH.
I already have strap locks on all my guitars, why am I even watching this?
Reasons
Sheriff_Raato I'm sure there are even people who don't have a guitar and still watch the video
I don't even have a guitar xD I am so lost :/
What brand did you use for strap locks?
guess it's a lifestyle now....you'll have straplock friends, you'll be wearing different kinds of clothes, looking at people with regular strap pegs with newfound sympathy.... 🤔
I used to use the Schallers until I got turned onto the DiMarzio straps. Those suit me better than other systems. Personal opinion of course
i remember when this guy was 15k subs .-. u grow up quickly brah gj
Never understood why people don't use strap locks more often. They're inexpensive and they protect your investment, what else do you need? I put them on all my guitars, I prefer ones made by Fender that are like big buttons, they're great!
BECOS I HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR 45 YRS AND NEVER HEARD OF A FUCKING STRAP LOCK... WE CALL THEM BANNA PELLERS IN GEORGIA !!!!
@@mefirst4266 I've had my strap fail me 3 times in 2 weekds buddy come at me
This is why i love UA-cam. Thanks man.
Great video~
Love the jiggle at the end and the guitar stays on..!!!
Just bought the Schaller Rutheniums for my Acoustic...🎸
I hope there is a foam at the bottom when the guitar falls. Dude I got goosebumps when you intentionally drop it.
wtf I literally just bought my first strap locks last night and then you upload how to install them haha
Thank you for this, it was very helpful and actually gave a close up view, which very few videos do
I'm still wondering why no one ever talk about the Planet Waves Rolling Lock straps.... They're pretty cool, locks very well, are less bulky and rattling than straplocks and in price are very close.
The only disadvantage may be the lock pieces themselves are not removable or sold separetely (yet), so you can't use it with your other straps, which could be a dilemma if you have your fav designs ._.
next time, less talking.
xD haha
Yeah it's kinda annoying....
😂 😂 😂
Ruthless
Talk about a jaw flapper.
PRS guitars are so beautiful.
Great! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for this video. It helped a lot!😁
Tyler just respond to Jared.....he apologized to u on Twitter
I mean, it was just a joke lol
What happened?
The noise I made when I saw him drop that guitar was not human...
🤣
Thank you.
You need to use lock tite on the threads of the part that mounts on the strap. If you don’t, be prepared to check the nut every time you play because the nuts come loose easily and boom there went your guitar hitting the floor!
Newer Schaller sets have a radial set screw, which is pure win.
The choice is yours. You can do strap locks with a couple of disc washers from your local hardware or suppliers like Screwfix. You need a few pence, a screwdriver and the kind of strap that will go in the case with the guitar (no buckles) because it stays with the guitar. Jus' sayin'. I've been doing that since long before we had strap locks.
Love you Tyler your my fav guitarist
If this was me watching a few years ago I would be so happy that you weren't talking 😂😂
Nice video, cool music man! Sounds awesome!
The Schaller strap locks are the best in my opinion. But the best (and free) strap lock is to remove the factory strap button and screw the strap to the body with it.
Cheers, legend! My guitar is secure! 🤘😊
Thank you. This video really helped.
This video helped me a lot thank you
I needed this thank you .
They are pretty decent locks and not too expensive. I have them on one of mine.
I'd still fuck up doing a guitar spin.
Thanks for the instruction video. Now I know.
I use the schaller type too, but they do have thinner screws than the stock ones, so thats a bit annoying. Have to drill a bigger hole in the strap locks to use the original screws.
I have a guitar strap with locks on the end that you just slide over the original strap holders and just press the button down to lock into place.
If the new screw is bigger, you could always just drill the hole out to proper size. I'm sure a hundred people have already said this, but I'll say it just in case ;).
i almost cried when u dropped the guitar
That last shot made me somewhat uncomfortable...
Awesome video! Thanks, Man.
Simple and informative, thanks.
WOW YOU SOUND SO MASCULAN.................. YOU MUST BE A BOY !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks dude, your video help me a lot.. ✌✌👊👊🇵🇭🇵🇭
same.
Love the song!
For me i just use car interior tire cut that and put it on the knob and your set
Great guide thanks
i need a tutorial of changing pickups please!!.Nice chanel btw
Thanks a lot man!
I dont think Schaller make this version anymore, its now S-locks. The old nut and washer version is this vid are known for coming loose and making people drop their guitars! Or at least getting lost. My strat came with the original version, and i lost a nut and washer. Just this week I ordered the S lock Version to replace them. Seems ok, very secure, though they are a little longer than I’d prefer.
For a cheaper version, check out the rubber seal used on a Grolsch bottle of beer 🍻 cheers!
Why put black strap locks on a guitar with chrome hardware? My ocd is going haywire!!
If you want them really screwed in there, pull the old hardware, dip a toothpick into wood glue, stick the toothpick into the screw hole, clip the toothpick off flush with the body, wipe away all the excess wood glue, wait a few minutes and screw the new hardware in slowly. I've done this with all of my guitars and they never come close to being loose. Also, don't use the Schallers, use the Dunlop designed strap locks.
Thanks man a very much appreciate it
I have a DiMarzio. It's awsome
goddammit legit 2 days ago i installed them on my new lp with a drill and it chipped i wish u made this sooner :(
You could use the stock screw from your guitar for the strap lock right?
The one thing you missed is hacking at strap with a knife so the strap lock fits the hole. - That's the bit I thought you might "do the right way"
Thanks very helping ☺
perfect man...
Why not use the same screw?? Then it's the exact size it needs to be.
Sniperfire24 because that screw wasn’t black to match
Who are the people who could not figure this out without this video?
Use a thicker screw on the upper bout as the screw supplied is too thin compared to the original. If you look at the assembly side on the strap is too far away from the actual horn.which means the pivot point is too far away when it should be right up against the horn. = screw and the horn come away leaving you with a solid anchor point at the strap and half of your Strat attached. Great for a Tele or a Les Paul but it looks dodgy on a Strat.
After you lock your strap in place, can you unlock them to put your strap away and put it back in later?
installing straplocks for me mostly consists of jamming toothpicks and wood glue into my guitar and drilling a screw into them
I'm praying that you planned to put a mattress or something thick and soft under it to soften the drop that sound effect gave me the shits :(
Whats wrong with using an electrical drill? Also, if you decide to get dunlop strap locks, chances are the new screws are going to be bigger than the originals. Then theres more steps involved.
background music sounds beautiful, may I ask what the song is?
2:25 You should probably use a wrench for this...
great video but.....does anyone else not like these metal strap-locks? The problem with mine was that there is a metal-on-metal connection and I could hear squeaking noises coming through the amp. Not cool. I use those plastic Dunlop ones now. Cheap, easy, fit in seconds.
Ive always wondered what happened to that black guitar...
Nice Animals t-shirt. 👍
should have featured the straplock showoff video
What's the song in the background called? It's so good!
Hi Tyler!! :)
