I fished around Poland in 97. Was tough goin - there are a lot of anglers and they mainly eating them. That's fair enough, but fishing was tough. In the more modern South we finally hooked carp. Don't go there thinking its unfished. The locals were the best I've met anywhere. If u make an effort to speak a bit of polish they really appreciate it.

Did you ask the question we all want to know about Eastern Europeans eating carp? I've seen the price of them from UK supermarkets so it's definitely cheaper to catch what you eat.
There’s a distinct difference between carp angling, which is basically 99% catch and release in Poland, and tradition of eating carp mainly on Christmas Eve. Some of us do eat carp during that time but those fish are only bought in grocery stores. Now I mentioned earlier 99% cause like in any domain people are just different and some take home all what they catch. We’re not capable of changing that. Cheers
The "catch and release" fishing is primarily English habit and strangely does not apply to salmon, trout or sea fishing. Accross europe (and the world in general) it is perfectly acceptable and legal to take caugh fish home and eat it. Eg. In France zander and pike are often caught for the table if the local Aapma allows it. Speaking of carp, once it reaches certain size it's not really edible anymore and it is acquired taste to start with. As @karpiolog mentioned carp is consumed across eastern europe (Hungarians are big fans) and is popular in Jewish community too. In Poland it is rarely eaten outside of Christmas and vast majority of carp fisheries are catch and release only.
