You put a music over to hide the loud scratching sound you get from this, nice one
wolfe1970 I’m sitting next to mine right now. I think the sound is kind of nice. The motors are a bit much if it’s going fast, but I think the scratching noise is nice.

kurisu7885 I got one as a gift. Unfortunately it is not relaxing. The sound it makes is awful.

kurisu7885 Yeah. It is really too bad. ThinkGeek dropped the audio of the device from this video but there is at least one other you can watch on UA-cam where you can hear the sound. Turn it up all the way and you can hear it. Imagine a steel ball being pulled through gritty sand and the sandpapery sound is amplified by the thin plastic base.

eh, I was opening these goofy diamond things I got for Christmas and they're made of those blue sand stuff, so I got an idea of what you mean.

Seriously...You want to sell a million of these things? Make the balls look like sandworms from Dune...maybe just some kind of flexible skin to put over them. I mean don't get me wrong, metal balls drawing in the sand is cool for a few minutes, but watching the production of spice play out in front of you...well that takes thinking like a geek to a whole new level.
I have some ideas to upgrade my sandscript, like putting a thin piece of felt under the sand to muffle some of the noise. I'd also like to put a top on the unit that I could see through. Has anyone created a top for the sandscript and is able to offer advice?
Sorry about the re-upload! We wanted to show some of the more intricate designs that the Sandscript is capable of creating. And yes, it does include two different sized stainless steel balls so you can choose between the thickness of the lines created.
ThinkGeek are there any reviews I can read? I'd like to buy something like this for my aunt who has ptsd.
melody stino I will review it for you. One word. Avoid. I got one as a gift for Christmas and we have already returned it. One of the gears was faulty straight out of the box so the ball stuck and skipped in the same spot each time. My wife thought it would be soothing but the sound it makes is annoying. It is a scraping sound of a ball being pulled across a sandy plastic surface. It is really grating. The patterns it makes are also not interesting. We fiddled with the disks over and over and it failed to ever make any interesting patterns like you would expect and like are shown on the box. Just watch the video and you will see.

Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of a zen garden if you don't draw the pattern yourself? And then clear it yourself?

Hello.
I have a question for me. When the angular design reaches 360 degrees and the next step is the angle of, say, 10 degrees, the arm of 360 degrees starts to reverse to turn to a new point, which will ruin the plan drawn on the sand.
How should this work to prevent this problem?

@TheOverseer Yes. They are called Sailing Stones.
Trails of sliding rocks have been observed and studied in various locations, including Little Bonnie Claire Playa, in Nevada, and most famously at Racetrack Playa, Death Valley National Park, California. It's very easy to Google "moving rocks" though.
