If all you need is a sum, you don't need to use "Simplified field notations"; you can use "Value is the [sum]" just above it. In that case, it does not even matter that the name values contain spaces, since you just get a list of checkboxes for the fields in the document and you simply check the checkboxes for the fields you want to get summed. Also, it is now perfectly fine to have spaces before and after the plus signs when you use the "Simplified field notations".
Thanks for the help. Even though its not the EXACT thing I needed I used this as a stepping stone. creating a fillable pdf for my friends' DnD character sheet and this was beyond helpful for me to understand the formula area. I have made formula's in excel but that has been lost to the void, this has been MUCH easier Again, MASSIVE thank you for this
Hi Carol, Can you make a video on how to calculate future dates with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC? I am looking to have people fill out the form and have the dates calculated 6 months out.
I have 3 columns of five rows each. Two of the columns calculate correctly. The middle column does the following: the number in the first row duplicates the number in the total field, and does not calculate the numbers in rows 2, 3, 4. In other words, it looks like this: salaries: 50.00 Benefits: 12.00 Supplies: 3.00 travel: 4.00 Other: 5.00 TOTAL: 50.00 -- so to repeat, the number in the first field and the total filed are the same while the rows in between do not calculate.
Hey Carol Bee, great video. I am using Acrobat Pro DC and used your exact instructions to clean up a form that was sent to me. The only problem is the default value will not show. I would like the boxes to display as $0.00. Any suggestions?
Nice Video Champ, I am facing difficulty in calculating start date in one cell and end date in second cell want result in 3rd cell. please guide. Thanks in advance.
good video and your smart ... im trying to use those fan fold UPS / fedex/ etc waybills. with dot matrix printer. (okidata 320) I scanned a demo way bill into acrobat pro to convert into a fillable forms, it only get some fields maybe like 2 . but how would i print it just with the text (hide background on printing) and what fanfold/tractor size would i set the printer too.... any help would be appreciated.. ( been doing hours of trial and error , this newer software is overly complicated if this was 2002 it would of took me minutes) using acrobat pro xi ) thank you in advance
Hey Carol, have a question: I've managed to create a self-calculating PDF which seems to work fine on my MAC however is not working on a PC, do have any tips advice?
hey if I want the default value of the text box to be blank - how do I do that ex text1 * text2 = text3 because after I change the format to number. - it starts to show $ 0.00 - even though I have not entered anything ex. ____ _____ $0.00 I am creating an invoice type form so I want the amount to appear only if I enter anything in the text1 and text2 please advise
Do you have tutorial on how to calculate rows?. I have a form created and have the following: I have one text box with No. next to it @ $120 (just text) then I have another text box with total. So I would like to be able to place say 2 in the first text box and would like to have it automatically calculate $240 in the second text box. Would appreciate your assistance. regards Don
Click/Drag with Ctrl+Shift copies the text boxes and keeps it aligned with the source box, and also copies default values and formatting... Would have made this video about 1 or 2 minutes long, though...
What do I do when I want to add up two text fields and multiply that outcome with a third text field? Like this: (Text Field 9+Text Field 11)*Text Field 12
You will use the same method I used to calculate the Text (number) fields. You would place your formula into the 'Simplified Field Notation' section. When the program pops up the 'Create and Edit JavaScripts' box, place your math formula into the box and click "OK'. This is demonstrated at the 6:47 minute mark of the video.
If I want to apply a condition to the calculation do I need to change to the custom calculation script or stay in the simplified version? This is what I got so far but its simply not working. Can anyone help? if(Qty1640PR

Hey Carol, have a question: I've managed to create a self-calculating PDF which seems to work fine on my MAC however is not working on a PC, do have any tips advice?
Did you check your format when saving doc.
hey
if I want the default value of the text box to be blank - how do I do that
ex text1 * text2 = text3
because after I change the format to number. - it starts to show $ 0.00 - even though I have not entered anything
ex. ____ _____ $0.00
I am creating an invoice type form
so I want the amount to appear only if I enter anything in the text1 and text2
please advise
// Custom calculate script
(function () {
// Get the input field values, as strings
var s1 = getField("text1").valueAsString;
var s2 = getField("text2").valueAsString;
// Convert strings to numbers
var v1 = +s1;
var v2 = +s2;
// If either input field is not blank
if (s1 || s2) {
event.value = v1 * v2;
} else {
event.value = ""; // ...otherwise, set blank the field
}
})();
Replace "text1" and "text2" with the actual names of the field involved.
I have a Problem when I tried this way. some times it doesn't calculate some fields. Do you know what should I do?
