- Somalia on Tuesday rejected a pact its breakaway region of Somaliland signed with Ethiopia allowing it to use a major port with access to the Red Sea in return for recognition as an independent state, saying the agreement had no legal force. On Wednesday, protests broke out in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in agreement in support of the government’s rejection. For more, VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to David Onserio Monda, professor at City University of New York.
as Somali this is a sign of war, Ethopia is an aggressive state, they have problem with every state in East Africa and Egypt, and we don't want Ethiopia in our land, Threatening to invade one country and violating the integrity of another are hostile acts in the part of Ethiopia that very much show why East African countries aren't too keen in making deals with Ethiopia. we will fight for our land.

I believe it is a wake up call for the Somali politicians and Somali people put a side of their differences and think the future of this country. Ethiopia has flagrantly violated the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Somalia. The Somali government and Somali people should not take this issue lightly.

Ethiopia wants to grab a coastal line from Somali territory to satisfy its lack of ports and access to sea, but this will not happen, If they try to grab by force then they know that Somalis can stop that and it will be suicidal for them to try any stupid thing. All Western powers and almost all Arab countries supported anti government Ethiopian rebels for several decades and engineered the fall of Ethiopia's military government in 1991 and allowed Eritrea( Ethiopia's ancient Red Sea lands) to be an indipendent country.
There is no moral ground for US, European Union, and Arab countries to oppose the business deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
All Africans and black people of the world should support Ethiopia's peaceful effort to access the ports in Somaliland.

The international community asked Somaliland many times to withdraw its forces to Oog at first Somaliland said no then a withdrawal happened on 24th of August before the attacks on Friday of 25th August but the army unit furthest way from the main base didn't know about the withdrawal there was some kind of confusion within the army. Somaliand can govern itself. It has its own passport, elected government that has held elections with 97% turnout, currency, and is generally a peaceful country from world index reports. Somalia supported the Eritrean struggle for independence since the 1960s, therefore similarly they should respect the soverenty of Somaliland to strike this deal with Ethiopia.

These things need to have legit and prerequisite validities that associates with country's international recognition and sovereignty. Do you know that in the USA or Canada there are private strores that print their own banks notes but its use has no validity in the official market transaction anywhere in the country or outside except the use on the same store. Also, there are travel documents and other IDs issued by certain organizations and private entities in some countries but they have no legal bearing of validity legitimacy whatsoever. The terms of unity were immediately violated by Somalia, particularly power sharing where among other things the 1st two presidents and the first two prime ministers were taken by Somalia. Then just when things started more fair and for the first time Somaliland was given the post of prime minister in 1969, the military made a coup within months to sabotage this. From there started 20 years of oppression which became finally a massive genocidal campaign to the people of Somaliland. Without grievance of all this happened. people of Somaliland came together and made their minds. This has resulted the Somaliland people to disband the union and restore its lost sovereignty in 1991, by declaring the Republic of Somaliland to restore their independence. Since then Somaliland has been peaceful, independent and democratic country. Ever since the reclamation of its freedom, Somaliland neutral did not interfere Somalia affairs, where the later has done all sorts of things to aggravate Somaliland. Now Somaliland has became tired of the fruitless talks with Somalia (13 rounds over the last decade), therefore its compelled to take a different approach after 63 years of destruction and wasted time. Actually, Somaliland and Somalia both had recognized borders on 1960 when they formed the union, so that clause of AU (respecting 1960 colonial borders) would not apply to Somaliland as it was an independent country, but the problem is, AU, just as most of it's members are, is not a place where facts matter, otherwise, it would have treated the issue of Somaliland and Somalia as two states that formed a failed union and for the good of both people and Horn of Africa, Somaliland's decision to pull out of this failed union must be respected. Not doing so, means just a cause for more fighting, unstability and suffering for both people and the region.
