Very helpful as I am researching everything about weaving while searching for my first Rigid Heddle. Thank you. That last fabric was stunning 👏

I'm so glad it was helpful! I can't wait to hear more about your first rigid heddle loom - that's so exciting! Best of luck with your research.
If you're comfortable, I would love it if you would share your journey in "Loom Stories"! I am positive we will all enjoy hearing how you decided to acquire a loom. You're in a small, but amazing club now!

My last project was weaving homespun (worsted warp, Semi-woolen weft). I had 16-18 wraps for 1 inch so I did test swatches of 8 epi, 10 epi and 12 epi. The 10 epi looked like it was going to work so I tied on using it. The weft was bigger yarn than the warp but the fabric was pulling in about an inch and a half on a 20 inch wide warp. I used a weaving temple to correct this, but with fulling and dyeing I still ended up with fabric 34" wide (I sewed the fabric edge to edge to make it twice as wide). Lesson learned-wool pulls in a lot more than cotton so go 12 epi. A lot of videos and books say to use what the Maker recommends. Even if you're not using homespun yarn, test swatches are a good idea. I use 4 inch wide and start at highest epi so I can reduce epi by cutting the required number of yarn .

@@ActonCreative coming at weaving as a spinner and a knitter learning a new language can be tricky. When i hear sett I need to thing gage and WPI (wraps per inch). I may just be better off experimenting until I really get the hang of it. Nothing like experiential learning :D

Thank-you for the explanation but how do you transfer this info to your reed?

Hi! Maybe this will help - it's an overview of sleying the reed. ua-cam.com/video/eI1VfouTruI/v-deo.html

How do you adjust a pattern that calls for 24 epi for a 10 dent x inch reed

Great question! If you haven't yet tried to use a Reed Substitution Chart, they are perfect for these exact scenarios!
I'm including a link to a helpful video right here! Let me know if you have further questions! I'm happy to help! ua-cam.com/video/HSYgKH_Mktg/v-deo.html
