I've binge watched so many of your videos over the past few days I find myself almost fluent in Geordie. Also thinking about joining a repair cafe. That just seems like a wholesome way to give a little something back to the local community.
I'm another Repair Cafe fixer, but down south, and I attend two events per month. It is totally worth it getting stuff up and going for people, plus teaching kids how to insert batteries. You can also learn of others too.
Do it! I volunteer at 2 each month and it's always satisfying. Sometimes emotionally draining as well tbh, but seeing a 48 year old woman proclaiming "OMG I'm 16 again!" and dancing away to her favourite mix tape (after I replaced the drive belt and serviced her 80's Walkman). It's a unique feelIng, you can't help but smile and think "I did that". To any non-fixers, there's always a place for any volunteers on the front of house side. Particularly the ones who check that the fixers are ok for a hot drink (and offer a fresh one or will nuke it when it invariably goes cold!)
Double fix whammy Mic, nicely done sir. I kept turning my head sideways looking at the Astro Invader, the logo had me for sure. I thought the robot was going to be a real challenge, dreaded you tearing into that thing but glad no need. Always a great watch, thanks!
Lovely to see some vintage toys getting another go around at life. AlsoI have watched a few videos on restoring UV damaged plastics and hydrogen peroxide is the best thing to use but you need to use a UV lamp to activate the HP or leave in a tank of solution and leave it outside on a sunny day for a few hours.
What you can do when using hydrogen peroxide is to get the cream type, brush it all over what you want to bleach out, apply damp paper towels, and then wrap with plastic kitchen wrap tightly. Let it set over night. If you had a UV light you can place the UV light above it as well. Great job. Glad you were able to fix both products.
Great repair on 2 very old items, I remember seeing the Omni Bot on IMSAI channel, but he just tore it down too much damage, again great repair. Paul, USA!!!
Oh blimey an Omnibot. I haven’t seen one of those in years. Wow. How things have moved on. Great Video. I tried the peroxide a few years back on a guitar scratch plate, had it in the strong sun for hours….. didn’t work 😂
Around 1984, a lot of companies pulled the reverse polairy nonsense for barrel connectors. The danger (aside from the wrong polarity using the wrong charger) is when any positive-ring device had to be used in an automobile. Almost every exposed piece of metal attached to the vehicle is a ground. If that live barrel connector touched it, boom.
Nice work. O always learn a lot from your vídeos. In relation to the retro bleaching, I believe you should expose the peroxide covered parta tô uv/sun light. Keep on the good work. 😊😊
Good ol' Astro Invader, legally distinct from Space Invaders, the best kind of "distinct" when you're selling a product based on another, more popular product. 😂
Hi Michael, I love watching your fix's, I was wondering if you put a note on the plug pointing out the output has been reversed to save someone using it on something else and causing damage. The space invaders fix was good, and it's a pity the screen had the damage. I hope you and your wife are feeling much better now! Best wishes. 👏🏻
@@BuyitFixit become a serious fan after watching a few of your videos... Absolutely brilliant stuff buy it fix it... I appreciate the process, thought, and investigation best I've ever seen!!!
For retrobrighting you need salon grade hydrogen peroxide, either as a liquid or cream, if its a cream you paint it all over the plastic , wrap it in cling film and then leave it out on a sunny day or make a UV box and expose it for few hours checking on it now and again moving the cream around to get an even whiting and prevent streaking, if its a liquid you can just leave it in a tub and flip it over.
Very good. We are not blessed with such things as sun or heat in the UK, retrobrite needs some assistance (either heat and / or UV bath). Have a look at adventures in retrobrite. I wonder whether ordinary household bleach would work, though you would have to regularly check progress.

Sodium bicarb & water paste for plastics. Quick edit. H2O2 needs to be around 11% to be any good at cleaning safely, hair products will only get you about 3%.
I do dislike them that fib saying untested, saying that in the last couple years I have had a couple of decent results where folks been honest, £4.99 and £4 pair of Xbox One OG's one needing a new HDD and the other perfectly working and the £17 Switch which doesn't dock due to the filter being blown and works like a champ. Them that say its untested but know the faults do themselves no favours, its like them on ebay who list something in a drop down menu for what seems reasonable money and you see its like a wire or part and you click on the thing you were interested in and its three times the good price and I avoid that seller from that point on as its what the older generation would call a spiv...
I did try with the UV light I've got for curing solder mask, but only for around an hour or so..Perhaps it just wasn't long enough or the peroxide I tried wasn't strong enough.
@BuyitFixit definitely longer and a lager light for sure will insure better results. Several tech shows in the US highlight this. None better than 8-bit guy channel.
I have an issue with “vintage” being before I was 25….😏. Could you have powered the TOMY motors from the bench power supply instead of replacing the battery? I have a UPS with a dead battery and I want to be sure it’s working before I buy a new battery.
I also forgot to say, you must be a real Hero to the people at the repair cafe, we don't have anything like that where I live.
Paul, USA!!!
Loved the way the circuit board for Astro Invaders actually said Galaxian on it.

Beautiful... I love your methods, with passion and love. One of my favorite channels ever!!! Thank you so much Mike, you're my GURU!!! ❤️
I love older products for repair! I do old tube radios from 1910's up into the 1970's, fun stuff!
Lovely to see some vintage toys getting another go around at life.

Wow, this brings back memories! I used to have one (omnibot) when I was a kid. Completely forgot about this thing.

Very cool fixes, Mick 🤩 Good old days 🤖
Nice to see these old and cool items getting fixed and working again :)
Thanks Mick a great repair 😀

Damn that brings back some memories, had one as a young lad.
Robot was a telepresence robot, the early version. Good fix as usual.

Groovy man. That was...... rad......

Thanks 👍Yes I put a sticker on it saying that the polarity had been reversed and for omnibot only 🙂👍
Nice and simple fix 😊
I love when I see a new video from you man keep it up!
Thanks mate 👍😊

Hey, super nice work , lovely retro super stuff 😻🥰🥰🥰👍
Reminds me of a 2XL talking tape robot I had as a kid! 🤖
Nice work...🙂
I have one of those... I wish someone would make a modern version of these... At a reasonable price point of course.
Oh yeah I can remember these in the Argos catalog! sadly, never got one though…..
Heya, nice repair love that robot
I think it would be much preferred to change the wiring in the charging socket
That is another option, but it could be confusing as it has the polarity indicated on the back of the device.
Sodium bicarb & water paste for plastics. Quick edit. H2O2 needs to be around 11% to be any good at cleaning safely, hair products will only get you about 3%.
older games and audio gear, that's the polarity required to not short the internal battery in the battery disconnect style barrel connectors

Retro brighting, you need to use ultra violet light and hydrogen peroxide to work in tandem.
Put label on the charger to reflect the change of tip polarity…
I did 🙂👍
When we get the sun back in the UK, you can leave the discoloured Astro Invader in the sun all day and it will go back to its original state.
Did you check that the cassette player was working?...belts OK? head clean?
Unfortunately not as I didn't have a cassette tape.
I was hoping it was going to be R2 and D2 that are faulty. C3 will be P0 rated :)
I have an issue with “vintage” being before I was 25….😏. Could you have powered the TOMY motors from the bench power supply instead of replacing the battery? I have a UPS with a dead battery and I want to be sure it’s working before I buy a new battery.
Woolworths or toys r us?😂👍
holy these omnibots go for 450€+ on ebay
