Cameron compares how Ridley Scott didn't like the fact that Cameron took over and understands that as the Terminator franchise is now run into the ground after T1 and T2, but in fairness the difference is Cameron clearly respected and acknowledge what Scott did in Alien and only added more to the lore with his sequel.
Cameron was very humble with that. The fact is that cameron created everything in Terminator, while Ridley just directed someone else screenplay. He did a great job, but he didn't created all by himself, so someone else could jump in. Plus, Cameron did a great sequel while the other terminators are all crap.
I much prefer Aliens to Alien. One of the best sequels ever made(and cameron somehow did it AGAIN with terminator 2!!!). The first film is an amazing classic, but Aliens is just better. I like the characters and actors more(rip bill paxton), the non-stop action and intensity. It's a more entertaining and exciting movie that's directed with the same skill that Ridley did on the first one.
was it really that good? how did the xenomorph know how to use the elevator? How did the xenomorph know what floor Ripley was on? How did the xenomorph know what button to push to go to Ripley's floor? How did the xenomorph know it wasn't trapped when the elevator door closed? How could Ripley be so upset about her daughter dying? Ripley left her daughter for a job that involved interstellar travel. LV426 is not in our solar system. Even onboard a spaceship that is capable of traveling at light speed it would take years to reach the nearest star system Then it would take years to return. So she voluntarily took a job that would take her away from her daughter for years but we are supposed to believe she was upset about the death of her daughter? It's ridiculous. James Cameron intentionally added that to the story to build a contrived bond between Ripley and Newt. It's so obvious that its pathetic. An elite fighting force surrenders their ammo while surrounded by hostile forces? On what planet would that happen in real life? I could go on and on. I don't get it when people say James Cameron's Aliens is great. It's a ridiculous movie and it isn't even close to being as good as the original.
De Selby "They cut the power. What do you mean they cut the power they are animals?" I like the fact that the intelligence of the Aliens is ambiguous it adds to the terror.
I wouldnt be so sure. Failed to depict the gas giant planet LV426 is orbiting - that bothered me, but what really annoys to this day of the removal of the smooth dome on the xenomorph's head. That was a dominant feature of the creature's look and he removed it.
Cameron is being somewhat modest in his strengths. I’d argue the true success of Aliens is how the character of Ripley is fleshed out. Cameron’s biggest asset is that he’s a writer-director, which Ridley Scott is not.
I’ve seen this film so many times since childhood and I always loved his character’s lines. Especially the combat drop. ‘Express elevator to hell, going down!’ ‘Ready to get it on!’ 😁👌
I remember watching this in the cinema as a kid in the 80s in Sri Lanka and being scared shitless. 😂 The single scariest moment was when the alien rises up from the water behind Newt. 😮😮😮
From all the scifi movies I like this one is my favorit I think. Its just too awesome. Its not only action the acting is epic and the atmosphere is awesome. And when the xenos start to chase the surviviors its very scary specially with that fantastic soundtrack
It has well executed scenes but some were stretching credibility like the battle scene in the operations room as they were shooting them almost at point blank range. They would have gotten acid all over them.
I respect Alien and its a great first watch. But as I get older I find Aliens so much more entertaining to rewatch. I suppose it could be the advantage of the genres though. A pure horror movie loses its impact the more you know about it and the monster. The alien franchise has become so well known the alien is like a logo at this point. If you go back now and you know what the egg is and what the face hugger is going to lead to later, its losing a lot of that atmosphere and tension. The ship full of eggs is really well realized and so absorbing the first time you watch. If I could remove my memories each time before watching Alien, it would be me favorite. But as it is, well made action scenes survive rewatching way better.
James Camerons alien has kept this Franchise alive all these years later. More media games, comics were made from Aliens than ALien ever could have hoped to have achieved, now i am not trying to bash Alien but just stating a fact. there was only so much more you could do with the Alien if you kept it the way Ridley had it.
"Aliens" is my favourite out of the franchise. As great as the 1st film is this one is much more accesible & with the introduction of the alien queen a complete game changer. Nothing will ever top it.
In my opinion I liked aliens much more than alien. No comparison. The second one was scarier for me, and had better action sequences. When they looked in to the ceiling, it was one of the most memorable and scary movie scenes in my life. The fact they had guns made it more believable. The fact they went in, knowing what was there and still lost made it more scary, and more believable than the first one. James Cameron should not feel bad. Ridley did alien halfway, James completed it.
I don't agree that aliens was scarier. It had far better action and built up tension well towards the beginning. However I felt the Xenomorphs were less scary in aliens as they were getting killed a lot easier not that there's anything wrong with that. I felt the surprise factor in alien made it more scary. Aliens is still my favourite of the 2 though.
Ridley Scott vs James Cameron 1) Alien vs Aliens 2) Blade Runner vs Terminator 2 (Science Fiction) 3) Thelma & Louise vs The Terminator (Road Chasing Movies) 4) Prometheus vs The Abyss (Science Fiction) 5) Black Hawk Down vs True Lies (Fighting with Terrorists) 6) Gladiator vs Titanic (Historical Epics) 7) The Martian vs Avatar (Science Fiction)
