#Weezer #SZNZWinter #SheratonCommander
Sheraton Commander is a hotel across the street from Harvard so to me this song is Rivers revisiting that area that once left him in pain and misery (during the Pinkerton years) and saying “I remember these streets, but it all doesn’t mean what it used to to me”
Based on the lyrics I'm pretty sure that's the exact opposite of what it means. Rivers is reflecting on age and how he's "not one of the kids" anymore. He metaphorically refers to a tree growing in that area there where George Washington took command of the American Army; those glorious, youthful times for our country are past, just as they are for Rivers. Rivers has now "[taken a] pill" and "[caught a] chill." He's taken a chill pill, he's mellowed out with age, but the way he describes this process frames it as tragic. He "long[s] to be there" at the Sheraton Commander even though according to the lyrics he is physically there; but he can't be there as he was, as a young man.
This is a sad--at best bittersweet--song, on a sad album. This is Winter, it's about being in the winter of life.
You have to keep in mind that this is A) a concept album, and not necessarily 100% autobiographical even if it incorporates some of those elements, and B) Rivers' feelings during that period of his life are probably a lot more nuanced than Pinkerton--a single rock album--reflects. I recall some friends from that period have even said Rivers wasn't nearly as much of a depressed husk as you'd think if you took all those Pinkerton songs at face value.
Weezer lore
Yea. Well told. And those last lines are so so good 👍🏻
Saul Goodman spitting straight facts.
@@nineleafclover well written . the latest conan o brien interview gives more insight on this.
I love when Weezer makes their music really dramatic and almost theatrical. It doesn’t happen too often but when it does it’s a real treat.
This is not “their music”, actually. This is Albinoni’s Adagio. Already covered by The Doors.
@@mister_eee76 I don't think that is what they meant at all. It may use interpolated classical music but this is still their song.
Interesting choice for an Albinoni-Cuomo track instead of a Vivaldi-Cuomo track to go with the Vivaldi Seasons vibe. It was quite a surprise they chose this adagio and not part of Vivaldi's Seasons for winter.
Wish more of the EP sounded a bit like this, honestly. I love the general mood it evokes so much.
Reminds me of Defeat on the Hill and I'm So Lonely from Alone III
Yeah it's much more aligned with the Elliott Smith direction he talked about
Commander? I hardly know her?
A Weezer fan commented this.
@@booberminfranklin3652 You are correct.
George Washington would've loved this song
This album gives off such a great winter vibe, so great
Guess what's the name of this ep
They did such a good job with this adagio that I would welcome a classical "covers" album. Maybe the Gray album complete with a black and white band picture.
This whole project is like rivers going back to the songs from the black hole idea and intensifying it making it bigger and better
Yes you are right ! It is the same rock opera songwriting approach.
I see rivers is putting his classical composition degree to use.
Indeed. What is the piece that is being lifted at the beginning? I recognise it but can't put my finger on it.
Don't worry, it's Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor. Forgot.
Merry christmas to you four and to every Weezer fans and everyone in the world
Black Hole vibes

Sznz is a great weezer triumph
This is fantastic ! Winter is the best !
I love this song
I took my pill
Those strings are vibey as heck. Nice work Shinn. Great showtune-esque melody. So ‘JC Superstar’. Really hope Rivers is still working on Buddha Superstar…
Not sure if it's the George Washington name drop or the loud blast into the chorus, but this kinda reminds me of Pavement's Billie in a weird way.
Good stuff
beautiful
More classical Tunes please! Adagio in G Minor done right!!
F*ck yeah!

This and I want a dog are my favourites. Just wish it was longer.
My favorite from this album is deep and dreamless sleep.
This really sounded a bit like Elliott Smith in the beginning, which was the original plan.
There really needs to be an extended version of the song! I mean it's just too short!! And I thought they were really going somewhere with the drums there at the end and it was going to be extended somehow someway
Sufjan Weezer? 😁👌

Who's watching this in 2022?
literally everyone here so far
Would've worked better as "who's watching on 12/21/22?"
Or is it ironically making fun of people who comment that every year in old songs ?
It's 1931
not me
Ok
