- David talks about basic compressor wiring. In the event that your wiring has been taken off your terminals and there is no schematic diagram this is how a compressor is usually wired in a condenser or heat pump application.
Thanks for watching!

Watching this as Im going to enroll in my class in 2 weeks :)
Even after 9 years, these videos still hold lots of value
Thanks David!
Hi David, 10 years late ! I'm a DIYer trying to understand the Capacitor and Contactor wiring from the Fan / Compressor and Dual Run Capacitor. This helped alot since most the videos don't discuss the Contactor wiring ( T1 / T2 terminals ) in detail. THANKS !
Thanks for your video - I was confused on which was T1 and T2 on the block I could not see any marking on the block. You clarified that in this video. Now my hard start kit is installed and working! You are my newest hero! (For anyone else the terminals on the contactor block are numbered from right to left so the red wire from the compressor is on the T1 on the top right. That is where you want to connect the black wire from your 5-2-1- hard start kit)
Thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!!
I have a house and have been out of air and went and bought fan motor. and couldnt do it without you!!!!!!!!! Thank You tons Traci
Appreciate u pop , this made it easy to figure out . Cause my wires was ALL OVER THE PLACE . The HERM WIRE and COMMON was most important . Once u identify those the fan is extra . I didn’t know what I was doing . Seen you video and when I did it I KNEW confidently I was wiring it up RIGHT . Wanted to say THANK U 🙏✌️🍻🍻🍻
Had the exact same capacitor and colors used. So this was a perfect example video. Thanks so much for sharing and helping folks out even years later!!
This is the video I've been looking for. I had to replace a run capacitor on my Ruud system and (like a dummy) unplugged all the wires without marking them. So, I had an orange wire, an orange wire, an orange wire, and a brown wire lol. Your video helped me make sure I hooked the third wire (other two we connected to the contactor) to the hermetic post. Thanks for this video!
You are great. I’m gonna start calling it a Compacitor from now on. You are very helpful
Great explanation, simple and to the point, thanks for your time and knowledge.
thank you so much for this video. I just finished installing a new capacitor using this video. I wasn't sure how to wire my new capacitor bc my old one was so rusted that i couldn't read any of the markings. however, your video made it possible!
Haven't seen this video in a long time.
Easy to understand.Thank you so much from Venezuela.
Great video
you've answer all my questions thank you
Mr Jones you're a kool teacher thumps up!
Good Man. Thank you for taking the time to do/show this video. Can

thank you nicely explained!!!
It was a very helpful video, thanks. Gotta say it got a kick out of your accent, I will forever call it a "compacitor" going forward.
Great explanation ...thank you
I am glad it helped.. Thanks for watching.
Indeed!

Hello I've been watching your videos and I got some basic new wiring to do on my WJA442 with a field installed 10kw heat. Now I know this is not the normal but I can use for some help, I got most of it understood but it's the 10% not knowing that messes with me. I can send pics.
lots of help. thank you
I hope you find this video helpful...thanks for watching from Jones Air Conditioning & Electric in Naples, FL!
terrific . but could you explain the other 2 wires that go to the solinoid the same as you did the hermetic wire
great vid.
Thank you very helpful.
Thank you for your video.
Thank you sir.
That's great explanation, thank you, I have a contractor with a bypass on one side of the poles, does it matters how the wires are connected ? Thanks again
Thank you very much, very nice video. Follow up question, if the three cables to the compressor are disconnected, how do I know which of the three wires goes on which compressor terminals?
Thanks......David Jones
Thank you, good explanation.

Thanks a lot!
Thanks hope it helped.
Your welcome hope it helps.
I have an old ac fan from outside the wires are purple tan and black .the cord i want to put on is red with and green how to i wire them together
Hey David love your channel honestly you in gray furnace man and acservice tech taught me everything I know and help me get through my day while tackling these units been in the industry for 3 years now I wish I could be ur robin and get under your wing I can tell u really njoy teaching us future techs.... anywho had a ? Was wondering if you could do a video about the compressor not pumping I had a issue today went to a customer initial problem was blown out fuse replaced it and got unit up n running I connected my gauges to stage 2 compressor pressures remained equalize while unit was operating the contactor t terminals where giving me shortage of voltage at each leg 3 phase 208 volts but I was getting proper voltage every where else compressor got hot suction line was very warm tho do u mind explaining I wrote up as bad compressor and contactor was this the wrong call?
I love this video. My Tempstar 3 ton unit ( made by carrier) is exactly wired with the same color wires coming from the compressor. Black T2, Red T1 on the same contactor as you show. Blue going to The Herm on the capacitor. Just confirming. If I want to check the inrush amps of my compressor at start-up which states on the label 88 LRA. Do I place the amp meter on the black wire coming from the compressor to the T2 on the contactor? My scamatic is completely washed out and I cannot see or follow anything. Would you know where I can get the scamatic for my Tempstar 3 ton unit? Model TCA236AKC4, serial # E0520914? Thanks. Happy New Year!!!!
Nice
😃😃👍
Which wires should I hook up on L1 & L2 ? I know the wires that come from the house but idk how to tell which wires hook up to L1 and L2
thanks
So brown wire on the capacitor will disconnect my fan motor for the winter?
A little help...why is it called a "run" capacitor if the compressors start winding is what's connected to the herm side of the cap? Is there an internal switch in the compressor that disconnects the cap after it starts?
"Always going to be red or orange" and as he holds the blue wire on H ?
Hi David! I have a Trane AC unit that keeps tripping the inside 40amp breaker. I have had 2 different AC Techs to come and look at it from the same company in my town. The 1st said compressor was going bad. The last guy replaced hard-start compasitors & said compressor was starting fine & had to be a bad breaker. I replaced the breaker & it's still tripping after about 4-6 hours of being on. The unit was installed when the home was built 10 years ago, but the compressor was replaced 5 years ago. I've checked for loose or burnt wires, but found none. Even sprayed coils to remove any dirt build-up. In watching another tech's video, he had the purple wire connected to Herm; red connected to Com & brown connected to Fan on compasitor. I noticed that on my unit, the tech had a red wire & purple wire connected to Com; orange wire connected to Herm & brown connected to Fan. If the wiring is wrong, would the compressor still start, but trip breaker later on?
Can you tell me which wire goes to which in new capacitor? I got brown, blue, and yellow wire. (Old capacitor the words on top I am unable to see any)
I have a copeland compressor in my Rheem central air, one of the terminals burnt off. I have pictures if you message me. I want to know if the 3 pronged terminal on the compressor can be replaced. because I was told I will have to exchange the entire compressor. Thoughts?
great vid
Your welcome.
Super sir
I will do a Video on this. How it s wired at least on paper.
i have a question. how come on the second condensing unit the compressors hermetic terminal is attached to a Run Capacitor instead of a plastic encased Start Capacitor?
nice video sir
Thank You
My split ac compressor is having high amp can u please tell me how to resolve it

I am trying to hook up a 5-2-1 compressor saver on a Trane RX12 unit. I don't know where to put the black wire on the contactor. Does it go on the black wire side of contactor? Thanks, Great Video
Rich - I just watched - the red wires are on the T1 so the black wire from the 5-2-1 unit goes on the T1 contactor with red wires attached - it took me a bit to figure that out also
Hi I want to know how I am going to do wiring between condenser to evaporator for the communication in this kind of condenser can you make a video or can you tell me how I can I do that thanks
David - love your videos. I was troubleshooting my AC and found that the T1 female spade connection to the compressor had corroded and lost contact. Sounds easy enough but the male blade terminal on the compressor looks to be soldered to the cylindrical pin (3 pins coming off the compressor) and is all corroded and has left a good little piece of the male blade on the actual pin terminal. Therefore I cannot replace the wire with a new female connector because it wont attach. I tried to twist and turn off the corroded male piece with no luck. I am wary of the fact that the terminal is fragile too and breaking it off would essentially ruin the compressor. Any ideas on how I can reattach the T1 in this situation? Thanks!
I have the same problem, did you get the answer???
You can purchase a compressor terminal repair kit. Solves that problem
Hello, anyone can help me. I have an LG air conditioner. I have a problem with the speed of the air fan that you find too slow and the air fan has been placed at its high speed
Hi david, I just look at my single phase copeland compressor wires. And there 2 black wire coming out from a port in lower side of compressor and they are not connecting to anything. I wonder what they are, and they are just lying there in the bottom of my ac unit. Thanks
Khuong Nguyen probably leads to a crank case heater not being used, if i had to guess
HI SIR
lot of times i saw your videos its help full us for learning
but i have one doubt,
1.How to identify this much psi freon gas only to be charged in the compressors.
2.How to identify hp rating of the compressors(if filter drier was block or some other issues in the compressors or some other issues in the systems In theese issues suppose my compressor taking more current that time what i wanted to do)
I have five wires to mine the colors are orange blue red white and yellow where do they go
My breaker trips every time turn on inside Ac. Replaced capacitor and still doesn't work. I can hear compressor humming
SmallTown BBQ was it locked up?
Thx, I thought you were gonna talk about the 5 low voltage wires that go to the airhandler
I will do that
@@jonesacnaples yes please.
What if you have 4 wires? I have red, orange, blue, and yellow
Hi, I have a Reheem 3 ton central air unit that starts and stops every 10 seconds. It continues to cycle this way but never stays on. I've changed the capacitor and the compressor relay but still to no avail. It continues to cycle on and off every 10 seconds. Please help. It's getting real hot in Jersey.
It may be tripping out on a slightly low charge or just a dirty condenser coil
David, My AC unit won't shut off. It burned out my motor and capacitor. I replaced both, but still have the issue with it not shutting off. the Tstat is good because I replaced that too. The contactor seems in good shape.
What will make the AC not shut off when the desired temp is reached when it's not the tstat, blower fan relay, capacitor or contactor.....Help...:-(
Sounds like your contactor is welded shut (probably due to sparking & arcing)
I
Isn't the black line wire on the contactor a common (t2)? Shouldn't the wire from the contactor to the capacitor common be also black?
On mine there was no black to C although the units wiring diagram showed it as black ..I hate when they do that.
So you Connecticut a fan the dame way???

David Jones bug
Mukesh kumar sharma 110 a/c
"C" does not stand for common on a capacitor . It stands for " Capacitor" (as in power in) and hooks up to the same side as Run on the compressor and NOT Common, :)~
Hindi substitute please thanku split and window AC compressor wiring and capacitor wiring
why all the air conditioners remnants of trees?
what will happen if you connect wrong wires to wrong terminal
Neeraj Dubey you can burn up or damage the compressor tht way
BOOM!!!! That's what"ll happen
You will need to add a low voltage wire from thermostat to air hander, then from air handler to condenser.

Thanks, I try to get to the point nobody wants to hear BS all I want to know is " how to fix my problem"
David Jones
You need to know more, forget the colors of wires, you need to know about run, start, & common on both ends compressor, contactor & capacitor. What if all wires are same color, it happens
Sir please I need job
Youv
Is that a compressor or a birds nest?
Just an explanation of the wiring for the compressor and capacitor thanks for watching
@@jonesacnaples Hey and I appreciate the video. Just joking about all the grass the homeowner allowed to accumulate.
