I love the different expressions of Octamore, they are outstanding, no question, but I don't know how the prices can be justified anymore. I feel like I have to take a stand given the prices. Fall is here and I had a lovely dram of Ardbeg UIG last night. It was perfect for a stormy day! Cask strength heavily peated are my favourite this time of year. Correyvreckan is always lovely, Ardbeg Ten. Delicious. Lag 16 is a scotch I go back to often. It's very sentimental for me. I just started exploring Shelter Point's 10 Year Old Single Malt. It's interesting. I think Whisky On the West Coast has just reviewed this expression for Shelter Point. I also love the Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength and I have quite a bit stashed away. It's not easy to find in Vancouver. Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated is one of my favorites! I very much want to try the Bruichladdich Rye - so much. It sounds amazing. We will see! Summer definitely means lower ABV with the heat. I like the ABV a lot higher in the fall and winter. Terrific conversation with you and Jeremy! Earth's Own Oat Milk is my favourite oat milk for coffee. Home made sauces are so much better! Cheers! 🙂
Love the episode boys! My go-to Peated Pour today is Laphroaig Lore or the Laphroaig 10 Sherry, depending on which one is open at the time. When Fall hits, I crave the brine, smoke, and stone-fruits the a sherry finished or aged scotch provides.
I have a few bottles stashed, 10.2 and 12.2plus a couple of open ones. The do have something special, amazingly delicate for such young, peaty whisky. However the pricing now is pushing me to the Port Charlotte range, which is 95% of the experience for half the price or less, and a few years more mature.
Excellent podcast gentlemen. The 14yo Quinta Ruban is often on sale in Italy for 45 euros. That is good value but better drink it indoors. Ciao 👋 grazie 🙏 S. Ps R Na Mer Ken bravo 👏 😂
On Glenmorangie: In the IB market it is typically sold teaspooned at Westport. Tale of Winter I purchased, tried a sample and then returned the bottle. After trying Tale of Forest I was happy not to have an entire bottle of it.
Great rant gentlemen. Octomore is the perfect fall dram, absolutely. At the current prices I'm out though... Some tangents were taken...lol. Might I suggest "Sauce in the 6" for your future pasta sauce business?
I recently took a punt on the Glenmorangie Palo Cortado 12yr 46% and its actually pretty pretty good. A little polished as a lot of bigger brand bottlings but I would recommend trying it.
We need to see a jarred tomato sauce review lineup. there are some good jarred sauces but you pay for them and they are at places like Whole Foods and they are organic and there is no BS in them
Seems like Australia has been discounting Octomore 13s, saw the 13.2 for $230 AUD and 13.3 for $289 AUD. I think we get to the point where importers don't even bring it in when the prices are so high for the market
On indie Glenmorangies, the Cadenhead “Highland Distilery” 37 year came to mind. Though they don’t actually disclose the distillery on the label. Really enjoy these podcasts guys 👍
if u guys had any chance to try the mystic highland 2005 52.6% by malts of Scotland IB bottling, which is an undisclosed glenmorangie, it may change your typical thoughts abt that distillate😊Cheers and always love u two's channels❤
Had to ask… that bottle of the 10px going for $4-500 out here in my area.(not paying anywhere close to that) Ok thx for the response. Good luck on that trade.👍🏼
You guys definitely need to find Glenmorangie Allta. It's bottled at 51.2%. I like it a lot, actually. It's basically the only Glenmorangie I've ever bought.
I always find something better than Glenmorangie, so never seems worth buying. Octomores pricing is insanity, whether there’s older stuff inside or not it’s just not justifiable and I think there’s serious competition at the prices they are going/will go for. My personal peated favorite is a Ballechin SFTC Bordeaux Cask - mad as a bag of snakes but delicious and interesting.
The Octamore range is a perfect example of a distillery overhyping and seriously overpricing their products, taking advantage of customers. I vote with my £ and buy the port Charlotte expressions.
that intro is where I realize how European I am: I don't care about Halloween, I don't have thanksgiving, football (which should be called American football in the first place since football already exists and is played with feet :)) baseball and hockey are sports I never watch on tv....but I agree with you, October is good for sipping whisky (or whiskey for that matter. See? whisky is the thing that brings us all together in the end :)
Octomore is NICE but no value now. Laphroaig 10 CS, Bunnahabhain peat IBs and Kilkerran Heavily Peated gives me the same vibes at a fraction of the price
I recently bought a Thompson Bros 24 yr Glenmo/Westport at auction. 50.1%. Excited to open when it finally gets to the US.
5 year whisky done right can be epic.
Amen
Loved the segment on Rob's pasta sauce. It really is sad that our food in NA is so processed
Couldn’t agree more
the best of the few springbanks I have ever had, were the 15 expression!
I think Ralfys problem is when they say "natural colour" because it doesnt necessarily mean they didnt add colouring.
Corryvrecken outside baby. What a bold flavor.

Looking forward to the Octomore vs Meikle Toir tasting
Meikle Toir rundown live on location?
Single Cask Nation recently did a Glenmorangie. It was called “Westport” on the label.
That makes sense.

I really like the Laphroaig 10 sherry oak finish or Uigeadail if im in the mood for a flavor bomb. Just a regular day, im grabbing Ledaig 10 or PC10
I had the Benromach Smoke and Sherry last night :)
Perfect for the first winter storm of the year here on Vancouver island
That sounds lovely and yes it was/is stormy on the Island! I am here working for a few months and autumn has arrived!
Well done Rob! You got it!
I finally discovered ordering from other provinces after many years thx to you guys. But secondary market is still a mystery to me.

Cheers buddy

Recipe is up

😅
Glenmorangie "Astar" is bottled at cask strength …not bad
Sherry Williamson and Sherry Ardbeg
I have the 9.3. Uncracked.
Laphroaig 10 cask strength does the job for me in the cheap seats. 😉
Tale of Cake is from Hungarian Tokaj wine barrels.
Nice

The Glenmorangie 18 is superb!
Wouldn't the new Port Ellen be a replacement for Octo instead of Brora, just have to wait 4-5 years plus though

Hi Rob, would you be willing to trade the springbank 10px for a springbank 12CS @ 54.3% abv (2014 batch 9)?
No sir. Need it to get a Palo cortado.
Had to ask… that bottle of the 10px going for $4-500 out here in my area.(not paying anywhere close to that) Ok thx for the response. Good luck on that trade.👍🏼
how does the laphraioge cask strength stack up against these bad boys?
Well but unfortunately these are better. Only unfortunate because of the price
15 year bracket with both the Springbanks over your shoulder.
Been waiting for the comparison of those two
Coming

hey rob, what are your thoughts on the laphraiog 10 sherry oak?
Really like it. Reviewed it a while back.
It’s a great expression. Not better than Uigeadail imo but still good.
Have you tried compass box peat monster?
Not yet. Planning to buy a bottle soon
There's actually a cask strength version available now.
I have the cask strength expression and it’s great!
Do you guys know any good American auction sites?
Unfortunately I do not.
I always find something better than Glenmorangie, so never seems worth buying.

I think its because sugar caramel could technically be deemed 'natural'
Where's the pasta sauce recipe?!? This is not a drill!
Putting it up now
I like to drink rye in the fall
Dont buy secondary. Bad advice. one is just fueling the hype, inflation and rewarding the un-ethical.
2 middle aged men who look like 13 year olds with beards. .. hey i'm not judging, just saying..
Care to elaborate?
