    Mike, Consumer Ektachrome actually started in 1958 and even earlier, not just as a recent Kodachrome replacement, including doing Ektachrome 40 in Canada before they could get more Kodachrome there.

      @@Filmboy24 Now I know you knew that, but in the video, you stated it accidentally like one replaced the other. It happens.

    Colors are fantastic (captain lieutenant Obvious speaking LOL) and you did a great job processing and scanning! BUT, what happened to the focus? Your Canon has a killer lens capable of shooting very crisp footage. Is your back focus thrown off perhaps? NOT criticizing anything, just trying to find out. Always great seeing your wife and daughters on film.

      Thanks, Christian! Super 8 images are never really very sharp in wide angle, but I have no other excuse for my close-up and mid shots than, I just either missed it a little during my "run & gun" or missed it a little during scanning (or both, lol). It's so tricky when everything is done by me from start to finished product.

    Very nice film! What kind of tree had the pretty white blossoms on it? Have a safe trip home.

    Excellent development and color saturation. There’s something that I’m probably hyper fixating on though and I really believe it’s more of a design issue with the stock and lens more than anything else and it’s happened to me a lot in my own footage but I can’t seem to ever get a decently sharp landscape shot on super 8 from a wide angle. But if I zoom in to medium or close range it looks sharper and less muddy? I’m not sure if it’s the size of the small frame or the lens designs of S8 cameras that just doesn’t do well with wide angle landscaping? If I try to sharpen it to “clear the mud”, it will look worse and more noisy. I thought I read somewhere, I’ll have to go back and look but it said Super 8mm was designed for more closer shots (close up to medium range) than far away shots? I don’t have a precise point of reference where the sharpness begins to drop off deeper into the frame.

      Thanks, man! It's not just you, I've never gotten a truly sharp wide angle picture with Super 8 and to be honest, I've never seen one from anyone else either. I think it has so much to do with the tiny frame size and the fact that the light has to travel so much farther from the front and middle lens elements to the rear lens element, than when in telephoto. Magnifying the image seems to have such a better effect on the overall look.

    Cool old farm your people have up there Mike. I enjoy the look of Ektachrome especially those reds. I’d like to watch some of those big fields with the ol’ deer rifle and of course a roll of that 100D. I’ll be keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.

      Thanks so much, Steven! Just stayed on that farm this weekend, only saw a fox but they do see quite a few deer out there (as I'm sure you can imagine). Thanks again!!

    Now this is a lot more like the '85 E100D I remember shooting. It's not the same wet-paint saturated color, but it's definitely stronger than when I first shot the new stuff.
    Did it seem to you that Kodak worked through all of the issues you saw with the cartridges when you first tested it?

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  4 місяці тому

      Honestly, I haven't had any issues with it since all of the changes were implemented. There will still be some cameras that struggle with it, because every camera is different in design, functionality and age. I think oftentimes that a lot of people believe that their recent Ebay purchased camera works perfectly because the motor spins. Truth is, cameras lose torque over time due to worn parts and if they aren't maintained, will struggle with any film you put in them.

    I ordered 5 rolls of the Ektachrome directly from Kodak last October, hoping that the jamming issues were fixed after being unavailable for a while. I shot one roll a while back, it jammed. Just shot a 2nd roll this past weekend, no problems. I'm not convinced Kodak has fully resolved their issues, which is rather infuriating given how expensive the film is.

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  4 місяці тому

      I would definitely contact Kodak with the issues you had with the first roll. They're usually pretty quick to send a replacement. I know that doesn't help with the frustration of having gone through all the prep and filming, but at least you'll get the film replaced. It can also be tricky with some cameras, as some have more torque than others and most have never been serviced (none of mine have been) for 50+ years. Crossing my fingers for your other rolls.

    Definition of goofy: “a nice funny person who you enjoy spending time with“. Absolutely! Bought a Super8 camera on eBay last year after watching one of your reviews. Slowly going through the different stocks, 50D, 200T, Tri-X. Ektachrome is next. Looking forward to it!

    I love 7294 although the film is expensive. I typically overexpose by a half stop or so because it likes light. Send it to Dwayne’s photo in Parsons, Kansas and get it processed same week for $12.00 plus shipping which is a bargain.
    Great video, thanks Mike!

      @Filmboy24  4 місяці тому

      Thanks so much, Cecil! I don't think Dwayne's can be beat, honestly. That really is a great deal, especially if you have more than one roll, to save a little on shipping :)

    • @cubdukat
      @cubdukat 4 місяці тому

      How well does it handle overexposure? I remember being able to goose the exposure with '85 only by a half-stop either way. It didn't like any more than that, which isn't uncommon for reversal.

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  4 місяці тому

      @@cubdukat I wouldn't go more than a stop for sure. As you know, it's difficult to come back with reversal film.

    I shot my first roll of 100D on my CLA’d Nikon R10 as a present for my mother. I’m as of writing this (2024-09-14) waiting on the lab (Super 8 Reversal Lab in the Netherlands) to process it.
    Will have it scanned locally at a professional place that’s done work for the Swedish public service broadcaster SVT and various production companies in Scandinavia.

    • @Filmboy24
      @Filmboy24  4 місяці тому +1

      Now that's how Super 8 should be used! Thank you for sharing and best of luck with it

    • @alexlandherr

      Thanks for the kind words!
      The local scanning place unfortunately didn’t perform color correction and grading. I’ve sent the relevant roll to On8mil in the U.K. as they are they closest lab to me in Sweden that does color correction and color grading.
      Other than that the roll turned out fine. The second roll I shot was a Vision3 50D and it had way less frame shake for some reason. On the whole I’m hooked on this format.
      The exciting thing for me is that about a 10 minute walk from my apartment is a movie film lab but they don’t accept Super 8 or other 8mm film, only 16mm and 35mm. Eventually I might get a Bolex H16 Rex model.
