I was chatting with a flight attendant how I used to enjoy seeing the cockpit mid flight as a kid. She spoke to the pilots and at the end of our flight they let me sit in the cockpit and take photos with the pilots. Thank you Hawaiian Airlines!
I was going out of Brunei airlines the plane, there was a long delay because the plane landed at the wrong place So my family and i were waiting near the cockpit and they opened the door so we could see the inside And they were so kind and let us in and allowed me and my siblings to take pictures

My mom asked for some ice to go with her coke TWO TIMES and the flight attendant forgot both times. Edit: ppl or stupid so let me elaborate : my mom was mad because the entire time the flight attendants were horrible and very rude not just because of the ice, forgetting ice isnt even rude

@@MrSocks1990 I’m sure they would be happy to have visitors. If you’re worried about it though you can ask the one of the flight attendants and they can ask the captain. Sometimes that’s what pax who are a bit shy opt for. But either way, I say go for it
I get really bad anxiety from flying. A few years ago, I was flying alone and I asked the flight attendant if she maybe had anything to help calm my anxiety. She politely apologised and said they only had paracetamol but then sat down on the plane floor next to me and held my hand until my anxiety went down. It helped me breathe and I remember her kind gesture til this day and probably will for the rest of my life ❤
My anxiety made United kick me out of a plane from New York to London. Because I was dumb enough to say I was feeling anxious. Be careful if you're flying United. I will never again.

I had a terrible nosebleed on an airplane once and the flight attendants were so kind and helpful. I have really bad nosebleeds often, but they've always stopped on their own. They brought me lots of napkins and water and soda to help me clear the taste from my mouth. It was a short flight, but it was so kind
Not to diagnose anyone over the internet, but FYI, having frequent nosebleeds is a symptom of Celiac disease/gluten intolerance. It’s worth looking into if it bothers you enough.
@@LewisandCo could also be allergy to pollen or w/e triggers the allergy. otc allergy meds fixed the problem for me. so frequent nose bleeds might be a symptom of different things.
About the extra meal tip... I once really like the cake that came with the meal after the meal I politely asked the flight attendent if they had some extra cake and to my surprise she gave me 3 pieces of that cake... istg I was the happiest passenger on board that day .... Thank you jeenie ❤
When I was like 8, my dad and I were on a daddy-daughter flight together. When we were boarding, the captains acknowledged us and told us how cute it was that it was just us two. At the end of the flight, an attendant told us the captains wanted to see us at the front! When we went, they captain talked to us, gave me his hat and let me sit in the chair. It was awesome. Best memory with my dad
On my 6th birthday we flew to Greece, and because it was pre 911 the stewardess asked mid-flight if I wanted to see the cockpit. We were over a closed blanket of clouds and it was so impressive! The view is really very different out the front than out of the side windows. The pilot then even showed my the gyroscope and flew a tiny curve to show me how it changed 😊 It's a core memory for me.
My first major flight and i had a panic attack and got so airsick, i couldn't move. The flight attendant Jin was absolutely AMAZING. He took my difficulties seriously instead of telling me to "take it like a man". He even sat beside me in the empty isle side seat and quietly sung an old Japanese lullaby is gramma used to sing to him.... As a grown man whose endlessly told "take it like a man" when im sick or have a panic attack, it was absolutely amazing to be treated like a human being!!
My son loves getting the wing pins! And he has gotten really good at flirting with the attendants to get one (he's 11 and too stinking cute for his own good - blonde hair, big blue eyes, huge grin and dimples.) 😂😂😂
I love the flight attendant from my last flight 😂 I asked about the card, but I must not have done a good job describing it so she needed to clarify. She asked "The ones the pilot usually gives to children?" She realized immediately what she said and tried to back pedal, but I was already cracking up! I did end up getting a card in the end~
A few years ago the flight attendant was giving out pins to anyone who wanted them as we boarded. I don’t know what possessed her to do it but seeing a bunch of 30-50 something business travelers just laughing and beaming about it was something else.
They way she’s barely not screaming is sending me, it’s like she talking to introverts specifically and are frustrated by them sitting helpless and hungry 🤣❤️
Pro tip for cockpit visits: you can ask to go before or after the flight, but there’s usually more time after the flight. As you board, just ask if you can see the cockpit. If you want to go afterwards, let them know ahead of time as you board. I’ve been going in cockpits almost every flight I’ve been on for 2 years. I’ve gotten to do lots of things like programming the flight computer, starting the APU (small jet engine in the back of the plane that supplies air and power), and just chatting with pilots. Pilots are always super nice, so don’t be afraid to ask for something. They love when people are interested in what they do. Hope this helps :)
I doubt you got to program the FMS or start the APU. The APU gets started at the jetway before the flight deck door is opened. Maybe someone showed you how it worked but that's about all.
@@HabuBeemer Incorrect. On Southwest Airlines at least, they start it during boarding. Captain was super cool and was excited to show me how to start the APU. As for the FMC, same thing.
@@SWAFanPilot There are two events for the APU: one at the gate before departure and the other when arriving after engine shut down. You didn't specify which. I'm certain you didn't start it. You were shown how it starts. I'll also guarantee you didn't touch the FMS either, you were shown how it works. I'm a 46 year Commercial Pilot and I 'll stand by my original comment.
Something that I got without even asking: I was in economy, and at the time QANTAS (the airline I was using) had a thing where you can donate some money to UNICEF onboard. I donated about 5 dollars. Apparently, I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT DONATED. The flight attendant was so appreciative, that she even went up to BUSINESS CLASS (On that flight it was about $42000) and gave me a special QANTAS bag only BUSINESS CLASS FLYERS CAN GET. Now I like to always think that I got a handbag more expensive than one from Gucci for $5. Also guys I still have the handbag I have no use for it Edit: I should have already said this, but guys the $42k is AUD (AUSTRALIAN Dollars) and it was an international flight across the globe (Jacksonville to Sydney with connection at Dallas, but both flights had same ticket

Guys, I say this with kindness....I see these comments a lot....as someone who completely understands social anxiety, I'm telling you you have to get this figured out. My niece's husband is a pilot, so her kids are jaded. They all have the plastic wings and the toy plane, and they no longer care if they go up front with daddy or not LOL. Still I was surprised to hear that you could get a photo at the end. Have never seen that before, and most of the time, the pilot and the efo are standing there saying goodbye to you, blocking the door

When I was around 7-9 I went on my first long haul flight that I was cognisant for and during the flight I drew a couple picture of the plane and sky. I gifted them to the flight attendant that frequently checked in on us and just before landing she told us to hang back a bit before getting off, we were further back so we would've been among the last to get off anyways. Once we were the last on the plane and got to the front the whole crew was there, we got to talk to & thank all of them and the pilots let my sibling and I take turns in the left seat with their caps. It was a wonderful start to that trip and even though I've forgotten most of it I still remember that flight and how excited I was. It's become a very special childhood memory for me and it's sparked my fascination with planes and aviation. I may not remember clearly the names and faces of that crew but I remember their spirit, thank you for that experience KLM crew.

My dad passed out on a plane once, he had blood sugar issues and sleep issues and wasnt using his mask while we were on vacation. The flight attendants were some of the most awesome people I have met. They made a little bed for him in the back of the plane, got him an oxygen mask and tanks and took care of him while he could sleep. Put my mom and me in business in hopes that shed calm down and get some rest herself. 13h flight and it happened within the first two. They were just awesome
I remember buying a bag of m and m’s to give to my flight attendant because she was super kind to me. I’ll never forget her smile when I gave it to her. Flight attendants are awesome ❤
My first flight was from Canada to Seoul and I’m plus size. I had never been on a plane and I had no idea about the seat sizes. I felt so bad that someone had to sit beside me and risk being uncomfortable. I got a bit upset and the flight attendants were all so kind and reassuring and made sure I was sitting next to kind people. I feel like I got lucky but I was just apologizing profusely. Love flying now and everyone is always kind as long as you’re kind and respectful. ❤
Back in July 2001, I asked if I could visit the flight deck mid-flight, and not only did they let me go, they let me sit in the jump seat for a night landing into Gran Canaria. One of the coolest experiences of my life.
I’m a pilot. And my airline doesn’t allow anyone unauthorised inside the cockpit. No more cockpit tours or photos, even when the plane is on the ground. We don’t even leave the door open when there are passengers around
Yea my dad is also a pilot, he’s mentioned that his cockpit has password security and could only be opened from the inside. So I highly doubt they let some random passenger in for any reason 😬 unless you’re a friend of the crews I guess
I flew with my parrot. A Cockatoo. I was the one who got asked for pictures. Every flight attendant and both pilots and half a dozen TSA agents. Not to mention fellow travelers.

When I was a child in the 1970’a my aunt worked as a flight attendant (stewardess back then) for Eastern Airlines. She brought us kids wing pins, playing cards and different Eastern Airlines paraphernalia. We loved it❤
My grandpa used to be a janitor at the airport and would do the same, along with boxes of complimentary pretzels and peanuts they were gonna get rid of. I remember having a teeny tiny little plane keychain that lit up and made plane noises that he got me.
We asked the flight attendant if we can take the blanket home (because we have abother 5-6 hours of land travel). She said "no. But I didn't see anything." Then laughed. She even told us to take two, instead of one and to keep in our bags so no one else will see. 😂 She was so sweet. Note: I was scared to ask (introvert here), so my dad did.
My little brother and I fly as unaccompanied minors and the amount of care and good interactions we've had with our flight attendants is honestly such a godsend in a stressful environment like an airport. We got those wing pins you mentioned as well :3
I have been in the cockpit of a plane before as i hope to be a pilot when i grow up. My dad simply asked the flight attendant who let me in, my dad took a picture, and i had a conversation with the pilot and asked him a few questions about being a pilot. I couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear the whole coach journey back from the airport. Possibly one of my favourite experiences ever.
Ooh, I didn’t know we could ask for those things in the airplane like that. They sure do look like a few things we may want on our flights so we don’t get that uncomfortable while we’re flying. Thanks for the information JW! ❤
I can tell you as working for Qatar Airways. You can ask for extra meals, deserts, anything and everything without any hesitation. Never shy away from asking another meal. If we have left extra, we are happy to give to it to you.
Yeah this was my experience with them too, but most people ask for refils or more drinks instead of meals, ig they rather let someone else have the extra, that's how i felt at least@@riksinha5
I love flight attendant, they are really sweet. They sometimes gives you small treat too. Once in Qatar airlines, I wanted a chicken meal the only other option was beef or vegetarian, neither suitable for me. Unfortunately she didnot have that, she asked me if i could wait for awhile and i was quite chill about it as i was not hungry yet and said to take your time, she gave me one after few minutes and the sweet lady brought me few Chocolates for my patience which was so sweet as I was almost a 18 year old scared kid traveling alone. One lady even complimented my small airplane embroidery in my t-shirt and so happy as a teen that she saw my vision for the fashion choice hehe.
That's weird. I was on an emirates flight and when it came to us the only option they had was chicken. My partner hates chicken as he finds it dry, I honestly thought he was going to burst into tears in front of the flight attendant as he begged for anything but chicken. She did return with a vegetarian option. Several years later on another emirates flight , the hostess doing meal service just joked ti us, "There's chicken or beef, but beef is the better option." I didn't hear her say it to anyone else before or after, so I have no idea why it was said to us. Even though we all laughed, she had no idea.
My favorite experience flying, especially as a child was getting my wing pins and meeting the pilot. When I flew unattended, I was accompanied by the pilot on multiple occasions. Great memories!
I lost a large amount of weight nearly 100# but flying before I always hated asking for that seatbelt extender. The experience left me feeling raw as the process to retrieve was calloused and left me feeling exposed. 😮I learned to ask as I was onboarding for more discreet retrival. “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

I was in a flight once, and me and my family were one of the last people who got served the meal so when i was placing an order, they ran out of 2 of the items i had wanted, so they were so nice and they even gave me free soda.. thank you Qatar Airways :)))))))
I’m fat and need seat belt extenders. I’m always super embarrassed to ask for them but you guys are always super dooper amazing and kind and non judge mental. I wish nurses were as empathic and kind and you guys ❤
The seatbelt extenders are literal life-savers for obese people like me. It was embarrassing to ask the first or second time but I got used to it. I've never had a flight attendant mind, it's a safety device and it only takes a few seconds to grab! If you're on the fence about whether you can get by without one or not, just ask. Your physical comfort and safety is worth the moments of mustering up courage!
I didn't even know about it. I was on a flight the seat belt was oddly smaller than usual and I mentioned this to my neighbor and he told me just to ask for a seat belt extender and that he had already done so as well.
Me and a couple friends were on a 6 hour flight. Browsing phones/listening to music, etc. Got boring. I asked if they had any playing cards. She came back like 10 minutes later with them and told us to just give them back at the end of the flight. They were one of the attendants personal cards(not that they're expensive) Was a nice gesture.

I always feel safe and relaxed on a plane. This is probably because I take medicine for nausea, but it really is almost like an anti-overwhelm chamber to sit with a movie and a blanket. Flight attendents are so kind and the food is not great but it is always so nice to feel like I don't have to worry for a bit. You're doing an amazing job!
The photo in the cockpit one is completely true. I want to be a pilot when I graduate, so when I had a layover where I stayed on the airplane, I asked the pilot if I could look around. He seemed a little wary at first, but after he saw that I was genuinely interested, he got really into it! He did let me take a photo, too!
My nephew is a huge airplane enthusiast. His parents are/were both in the field. He had plans drawn up when he was young to bring back the Concord haha. So when he flew over to us at 13 by himself, you best believe he asked to see the cockpit. The pictures were great.
A couple years ago when I was younger, I was getting on a plane to Mexico. I don’t remember who, but someone on the flight noticed and let me take a photo in the cockpit. It was so cool I didn’t even know I could do that.
I was extremely sick from missing a flight home and was coming off a very important medication and an amazing stewardess. Let me lay down in the back three seats alone so other people want concerned and so that I could make it through the flight because I desperately needed to get back to my doctor and my state to pick up my medicine. Thank God, the blue haired gorgeous stewardess on Frontier flight last year
My service dog training group went on a trip to Corpus Christi with our service dogs and one of our handlers as we were passing the cockpit to take a picture. The pilot was elated and we have pictures and GoPro video of that team in the cockpit. It's wonderful and amazing. Such a great addition to our trip.
My first flight ever was from Minneapolis to Seattle back in 2012. I was 21 and it felt like a huge thing for me. In my excitement, I told the flight attendant that this was my very first time and without hesitation she grabbed a wings pin to celebrate it! It was super sweet of her and I’ll always remember it.
I’ve tried to ask for Tylenol/Advil on a flight when I had really bad period cramps and they said no 😢. I’m lookin’ at you American Airlines…! Haven’t had the confidence to ask for anything at all since then and that was 7 years ago lol.

In South Africa it is illegal to give painkillers to people, that include colleagues, customers, etc. Even if they ask for it. Only doctors, nurses, pharmacist, and parent to their legal wards, may.
While not period cramps (back had enough of economy seats halfway through the flight and stupid me hadn’t packed any Tylenol/Advil) I did the same flying with LH. They gave it to me eventually but the flight attendant that gave it to me was super worried about me and it was a bit of a process to get it but eventually they did give me one. Even though the outcome was technically possible I wouldn’t do it again unless the pain was feeling like needing to scream from pain bad 😅😂
I took one early morning flight with breakfast served. Coffee served as well. Loved the coffee so much I had cup after cup after cup. At end of flight I asked the attendant where I could buy some coffee like that. He told me it was made specifically for them and not in stores. Then asked me to wait just one moment. He went to the kitchen/galley on plane. He a brought back a garbage bag full of prepackaged portions of coffee they used to make coffee in flight. Gave me the entire plastic bag of coffee packages. Was not expecting that treasure load of ground coffee. Oh, yes, it was decaf. 😊
I was flying back to Manchester from Athens using the Aegean Airline but it was the earliest flight. I didnt like what they had as a breakfast option so i waited for them to bring out a snack which was a packaged cake slice. I kindly asked if i could have a second one and the lady gave me two. It made me smile!
1991 flew OS, asked if I could get to meet the pilots, half into flight got taken to the cockpit, sat in the left seat, then was invited to sit in the cockpit jump seat for landing. Mad experience. The QANTAS 747 OJA that I was on is now a static display at HARS in Wollongong and recently went back to sit in it again.
This is so funny! My niece's husband is a pilot, and before he worked commercial he was in the military. I never go to air shows, but the year he was here in my state, I went to see him. I saw him do his first run, and then went to the tent where his plane was to buy him lunch and walk around a little bit and then let him get back into the air conditioning. put. I took him to my seat so he could see where I was sitting on his second run, to wave. Geico had distributed fans to everyone with a gecko head as the fan part because it was so blisteringly hot that day, so I said I'd wave that once he saw where to look, so took him to where my chair was. When we got back to where I was sitting, all of the people who were seated around me, who were there specifically because they liked his particular plane, all freaked out like I had a rockstar with me! I told my niece later some of the people were showing him footage that they had taken of his run and how his playing hovered and so on, and I said it in the tone that those people must have seemed really geeky. She said "no, actually, he probably really loved that." 😅😅
As an FA, most times when there is a house full flight, tend not to give out the whole cans just to make sure we get every single passenger. We always remember which passengers asked for the can and if we have extra then definitely we’ll give it out
I used to enjoy flying, but after having kids I started getting anxiety about it (the thought of dying in a crash and leaving my kids fatherless would eat at me everytime I had a flight). My best friend tells me he's getting married and I'm the best man. He's planned it for November. "...in Mexico" he says "There are better men." I replied. My wife decided that Mexico was more important than my mental health, so I had 6 months of nightmares (on the rare occasions that I could actually sleep) ahead of me. A couple of weeks before the wedding, this old guy at my worksite (Ralph) comes up to me and says "I hear you've been having some trouble. I used to be a commercial airline pilot, there's nothing to be worried about, I flew for decades." I told him it was the idea that I might never see my kids again, and the lack of control if the situation went bad, that was getting into my head. "If the plane experiences trouble and it looks like it's going down, there is something you can do." He said. He leans toward me and, in the most serious tone of voice, says: "You can die like a man."... "Ok... well, thanks Ralph, that was... helpful." _SEVERE_ turbulance during the flight down, even the crew were worried, people were crying, I just sat there and waited for the plane to meet the ground one way or another. I felt totally calm. -RIP Ralph (who did, in fact, die like a man).
It's not a Ryanair thing, it's overall aviation safety measure that people cannot get into the flightdeck during flight to avoid potential hijacking. We let pax get in when disembarking, next time during cruising tell the cc that once you land you'd like to see the fd and they'll let u in

I remember my first time ever flying alone. I was 19 and I had to fly 8 hours for my grandpa's funeral, and because of work I couldn't go on the same day as my parents. I was nervous and I think the flight attendant noticed because she was super sweet and checked on me few times during the flight. I also asked a few technical questions about the aircraft and she was really happy to explain everything I wanted to know! She made me feel so much better ❤
When I was 6 years old I was on an American Airlines flight and my parents got an upgrade to business class but I didn’t. I had to sit in economy on my own all by myself. The flight attendants were really nice and at the end of the flight they gave me a crew pin that said flight crew on it. I still have that pin.
I remember my first tour in airplane, the flight attendant gave us a tour all around the plane like some kind of VIP! Sir, I don't know who you are or even remember who you are, but I'm still glad to this day for what you did❤
That's sweet! My niece's husband is a pilot, and I think it's pretty standard to offer small kids on their first flights a tour and a pair of wings or whatever toy it is at the airline hands out. I'm so glad that it was a memorable experience for you!
when it comes to food, they are always generous to give another meal,on long hour flight and if you go their gallery, offer yourself as help or chitchat. i was amazed to know how their works is exhausting yet they are always smiling.
Fun fact. Flight attendants In the UK can opt to do the Immediate Life Support Course. This means they can do certain procedures such as inserting an airway device in the event of a person going into cardiac arrest
Yes and no they don't hold the same skills as a qualified emergency care assistant or emergency care technician though. All the ILS courses allow them to do is use the airways in order to actually use those skills they have to hold a minimum pre hospital emergency medicine framework scale grade c or higher qualification otherwise they don't have the skills to actually use them though.
@@MDLC424 if you're in cardiac arrest, you are dead. A secure airway permits adequate ventilation (pushing air in your lungs). Per ACLS guidelines you're not required to intubate, but a laryngeal mask can be of great help
Let me tell you my Emirates experience, air stewardess missed my meal, i reminded her politely, she turn a deaf ear. I reminded her again, she rudely push the meal in front of me. Probably I am an Asian, idk. I flew UK-MSia twice, both bad experience.
@isaacchan7689 I fly with Emirates often and I have to say that the DXB to M’sia route always has the worst flight attendants. Idk why… Always got a chip on their shoulder, esp the younger female ones. Older ones normally quite chill, but they rarely serve economy. But the London and Dubai route, I’ve met really nice Emirates flight attendants (as recently as 2 weeks ago). RIP their old safety video tho. I’ll miss that magician man 🫡
I notice this too, the most accomdating flights were always the ones staffed by caucasians flight attendants i.e middle eastern, turkish etc, the asian ones tend to either struggle with english or seem overly stressed or bothered, lots of the ladies were also too short to really help with the bags, it might be a training thing since in Asia, becoming a flight attendant isn't really a glamourous career @@isaacchan7689
When I was a kid flying Southwest Airlines, the stewardesses called me to the front, had me answer some trivia questions on the loud speaker, and gave me a deck of Southwest playing cards and a pin. Those were the days.
I am a 6 foot guy weighing 95kg, so pretty big. I absolutely hate it when flight attendants treat me like a child and give me a tiny plastic glass of Coke half full of foam when i ask for a CAN OF COKE. Its just embarrassing asking for the whole can even after asking for a can of coke the first time. Despite paying thousands on a ticket.
I use to work in an airline kitchen that preps the food, loads and unloads the food carts used on flights. It's absolutely true that unconsumed foods get thrown out. Please feel encouraged to ask for seconds! Airlines really should donate meals to homeless outreach programs.
I did know about the can actually. One time I wasn't feeling well and asked for ginger ale. After the flight attendant poured me a cup she offered me the rest of the can. Changed my world.

I was chatting with a flight attendant how I used to enjoy seeing the cockpit mid flight as a kid. She spoke to the pilots and at the end of our flight they let me sit in the cockpit and take photos with the pilots. Thank you Hawaiian Airlines!

I was going out of Brunei airlines the plane, there was a long delay because the plane landed at the wrong place

I get really bad anxiety from flying. A few years ago, I was flying alone and I asked the flight attendant if she maybe had anything to help calm my anxiety. She politely apologised and said they only had paracetamol but then sat down on the plane floor next to me and held my hand until my anxiety went down. It helped me breathe and I remember her kind gesture til this day and probably will for the rest of my life ❤

I had a terrible nosebleed on an airplane once and the flight attendants were so kind and helpful. I have really bad nosebleeds often, but they've always stopped on their own. They brought me lots of napkins and water and soda to help me clear the taste from my mouth. It was a short flight, but it was so kind

Not to diagnose anyone over the internet, but FYI, having frequent nosebleeds is a symptom of Celiac disease/gluten intolerance. It’s worth looking into if it bothers you enough.
@@LewisandCo could also be allergy to pollen or w/e triggers the allergy. otc allergy meds fixed the problem for me. so frequent nose bleeds might be a symptom of different things.

About the extra meal tip... I once really like the cake that came with the meal after the meal I politely asked the flight attendent if they had some extra cake and to my surprise she gave me 3 pieces of that cake... istg I was the happiest passenger on board that day ....

When I was like 8, my dad and I were on a daddy-daughter flight together. When we were boarding, the captains acknowledged us and told us how cute it was that it was just us two. At the end of the flight, an attendant told us the captains wanted to see us at the front! When we went, they captain talked to us, gave me his hat and let me sit in the chair. It was awesome. Best memory with my dad

On my 6th birthday we flew to Greece, and because it was pre 911 the stewardess asked mid-flight if I wanted to see the cockpit.
We were over a closed blanket of clouds and it was so impressive! The view is really very different out the front than out of the side windows.
The pilot then even showed my the gyroscope and flew a tiny curve to show me how it changed 😊
It's a core memory for me.
My first major flight and i had a panic attack and got so airsick, i couldn't move. The flight attendant Jin was absolutely AMAZING. He took my difficulties seriously instead of telling me to "take it like a man". He even sat beside me in the empty isle side seat and quietly sung an old Japanese lullaby is gramma used to sing to him.... As a grown man whose endlessly told "take it like a man" when im sick or have a panic attack, it was absolutely amazing to be treated like a human being!!

I love the flight attendant from my last flight 😂 I asked about the card, but I must not have done a good job describing it so she needed to clarify. She asked "The ones the pilot usually gives to children?" She realized immediately what she said and tried to back pedal, but I was already cracking up! I did end up getting a card in the end~

A few years ago the flight attendant was giving out pins to anyone who wanted them as we boarded. I don’t know what possessed her to do it but seeing a bunch of 30-50 something business travelers just laughing and beaming about it was something else.

Pro tip for cockpit visits: you can ask to go before or after the flight, but there’s usually more time after the flight. As you board, just ask if you can see the cockpit. If you want to go afterwards, let them know ahead of time as you board.
I’ve been going in cockpits almost every flight I’ve been on for 2 years. I’ve gotten to do lots of things like programming the flight computer, starting the APU (small jet engine in the back of the plane that supplies air and power), and just chatting with pilots. Pilots are always super nice, so don’t be afraid to ask for something. They love when people are interested in what they do. Hope this helps :)
I doubt you got to program the FMS or start the APU. The APU gets started at the jetway before the flight deck door is opened. Maybe someone showed you how it worked but that's about all.

@@SWAFanPilot There are two events for the APU: one at the gate before departure and the other when arriving after engine shut down. You didn't specify which. I'm certain you didn't start it. You were shown how it starts. I'll also guarantee you didn't touch the FMS either, you were shown how it works. I'm a 46 year Commercial Pilot and I 'll stand by my original comment.

Something that I got without even asking:
I was in economy, and at the time QANTAS (the airline I was using) had a thing where you can donate some money to UNICEF onboard. I donated about 5 dollars. Apparently, I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT DONATED. The flight attendant was so appreciative, that she even went up to BUSINESS CLASS (On that flight it was about $42000) and gave me a special QANTAS bag only BUSINESS CLASS FLYERS CAN GET. Now I like to always think that I got a handbag more expensive than one from Gucci for $5.

My niece's husband is a pilot, so her kids are jaded. They all have the plastic wings and the toy plane, and they no longer care if they go up front with daddy or not LOL. Still I was surprised to hear that you could get a photo at the end. Have never seen that before, and most of the time, the pilot and the efo are standing there saying goodbye to you, blocking the door

When I was around 7-9 I went on my first long haul flight that I was cognisant for and during the flight I drew a couple picture of the plane and sky. I gifted them to the flight attendant that frequently checked in on us and just before landing she told us to hang back a bit before getting off, we were further back so we would've been among the last to get off anyways. Once we were the last on the plane and got to the front the whole crew was there, we got to talk to & thank all of them and the pilots let my sibling and I take turns in the left seat with their caps.
It was a wonderful start to that trip and even though I've forgotten most of it I still remember that flight and how excited I was. It's become a very special childhood memory for me and it's sparked my fascination with planes and aviation. I may not remember clearly the names and faces of that crew but I remember their spirit, thank you for that experience KLM crew.

My dad passed out on a plane once, he had blood sugar issues and sleep issues and wasnt using his mask while we were on vacation. The flight attendants were some of the most awesome people I have met. They made a little bed for him in the back of the plane, got him an oxygen mask and tanks and took care of him while he could sleep. Put my mom and me in business in hopes that shed calm down and get some rest herself. 13h flight and it happened within the first two. They were just awesome

My first flight was from Canada to Seoul and I’m plus size. I had never been on a plane and I had no idea about the seat sizes. I felt so bad that someone had to sit beside me and risk being uncomfortable. I got a bit upset and the flight attendants were all so kind and reassuring and made sure I was sitting next to kind people. I feel like I got lucky but I was just apologizing profusely. Love flying now and everyone is always kind as long as you’re kind and respectful. ❤
Back in July 2001, I asked if I could visit the flight deck mid-flight, and not only did they let me go, they let me sit in the jump seat for a night landing into Gran Canaria. One of the coolest experiences of my life.

When I was a child in the 1970’a my aunt worked as a flight attendant (stewardess back then) for Eastern Airlines. She brought us kids wing pins, playing cards and different Eastern Airlines paraphernalia. We loved it❤

My grandpa used to be a janitor at the airport and would do the same, along with boxes of complimentary pretzels and peanuts they were gonna get rid of. I remember having a teeny tiny little plane keychain that lit up and made plane noises that he got me.
We asked the flight attendant if we can take the blanket home (because we have abother 5-6 hours of land travel). She said "no. But I didn't see anything." Then laughed. She even told us to take two, instead of one and to keep in our bags so no one else will see. 😂
She was so sweet.

My little brother and I fly as unaccompanied minors and the amount of care and good interactions we've had with our flight attendants is honestly such a godsend in a stressful environment like an airport. We got those wing pins you mentioned as well :3
I have been in the cockpit of a plane before as i hope to be a pilot when i grow up. My dad simply asked the flight attendant who let me in, my dad took a picture, and i had a conversation with the pilot and asked him a few questions about being a pilot. I couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear the whole coach journey back from the airport. Possibly one of my favourite experiences ever.

I can tell you as working for Qatar Airways. You can ask for extra meals, deserts, anything and everything without any hesitation. Never shy away from asking another meal. If we have left extra, we are happy to give to it to you.

I love flight attendant, they are really sweet. They sometimes gives you small treat too. Once in Qatar airlines, I wanted a chicken meal the only other option was beef or vegetarian, neither suitable for me. Unfortunately she didnot have that, she asked me if i could wait for awhile and i was quite chill about it as i was not hungry yet and said to take your time, she gave me one after few minutes and the sweet lady brought me few Chocolates for my patience which was so sweet as I was almost a 18 year old scared kid traveling alone. One lady even complimented my small airplane embroidery in my t-shirt and so happy as a teen that she saw my vision for the fashion choice hehe.

That's weird. I was on an emirates flight and when it came to us the only option they had was chicken.
My partner hates chicken as he finds it dry, I honestly thought he was going to burst into tears in front of the flight attendant as he begged for anything but chicken. She did return with a vegetarian option. Several years later on another emirates flight , the hostess doing meal service just joked ti us, "There's chicken or beef, but beef is the better option." I didn't hear her say it to anyone else before or after, so I have no idea why it was said to us. Even though we all laughed, she had no idea.

My favorite experience flying, especially as a child was getting my wing pins and meeting the pilot. When I flew unattended, I was accompanied by the pilot on multiple occasions. Great memories!

I lost a large amount of weight nearly 100# but flying before I always hated asking for that seatbelt extender. The experience left me feeling raw as the process to retrieve was calloused and left me feeling exposed. 😮I learned to ask as I was onboarding for more discreet retrival. “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
This helped me so much. Tomorrow I'm going on a airplane. So it helped me❤

The seatbelt extenders are literal life-savers for obese people like me. It was embarrassing to ask the first or second time but I got used to it. I've never had a flight attendant mind, it's a safety device and it only takes a few seconds to grab! If you're on the fence about whether you can get by without one or not, just ask. Your physical comfort and safety is worth the moments of mustering up courage!
I didn't even know about it. I was on a flight the seat belt was oddly smaller than usual and I mentioned this to my neighbor and he told me just to ask for a seat belt extender and that he had already done so as well.

Me and a couple friends were on a 6 hour flight. Browsing phones/listening to music, etc. Got boring. I asked if they had any playing cards.
She came back like 10 minutes later with them and told us to just give them back at the end of the flight. They were one of the attendants personal cards(not that they're expensive) Was a nice gesture.

I always feel safe and relaxed on a plane. This is probably because I take medicine for nausea, but it really is almost like an anti-overwhelm chamber to sit with a movie and a blanket. Flight attendents are so kind and the food is not great but it is always so nice to feel like I don't have to worry for a bit. You're doing an amazing job!
The photo in the cockpit one is completely true. I want to be a pilot when I graduate, so when I had a layover where I stayed on the airplane, I asked the pilot if I could look around. He seemed a little wary at first, but after he saw that I was genuinely interested, he got really into it! He did let me take a photo, too!

My nephew is a huge airplane enthusiast. His parents are/were both in the field. He had plans drawn up when he was young to bring back the Concord haha. So when he flew over to us at 13 by himself, you best believe he asked to see the cockpit. The pictures were great.

A couple years ago when I was younger, I was getting on a plane to Mexico. I don’t remember who, but someone on the flight noticed and let me take a photo in the cockpit. It was so cool I didn’t even know I could do that.
I was extremely sick from missing a flight home and was coming off a very important medication and an amazing stewardess. Let me lay down in the back three seats alone
so other people want concerned and so that I could make it through the flight because I desperately needed to get back to my doctor and my state to pick up my medicine.

My service dog training group went on a trip to Corpus Christi with our service dogs and one of our handlers as we were passing the cockpit to take a picture. The pilot was elated and we have pictures and GoPro video of that team in the cockpit. It's wonderful and amazing. Such a great addition to our trip.
My first flight ever was from Minneapolis to Seattle back in 2012. I was 21 and it felt like a huge thing for me. In my excitement, I told the flight attendant that this was my very first time and without hesitation she grabbed a wings pin to celebrate it! It was super sweet of her and I’ll always remember it.
I’ve tried to ask for Tylenol/Advil on a flight when I had really bad period cramps and they said no 😢. I’m lookin’ at you American Airlines…! Haven’t had the confidence to ask for anything at all since then and that was 7 years ago lol.

I was on an 11 hour flight with Turkish airlines and had a bad headache so I asked for a painkiller, they said they’re not allowed to give it to passengers, like what?? Then why do you have it
In South Africa it is illegal to give painkillers to people, that include colleagues, customers, etc. Even if they ask for it. Only doctors, nurses, pharmacist, and parent to their legal wards, may.
While not period cramps (back had enough of economy seats halfway through the flight and stupid me hadn’t packed any Tylenol/Advil) I did the same flying with LH. They gave it to me eventually but the flight attendant that gave it to me was super worried about me and it was a bit of a process to get it but eventually they did give me one. Even though the outcome was technically possible I wouldn’t do it again unless the pain was feeling like needing to scream from pain bad 😅😂
I took one early morning flight with breakfast served. Coffee served as well. Loved the coffee so much I had cup after cup after cup. At end of flight I asked the attendant where I could buy some coffee like that. He told me it was made specifically for them and not in stores. Then asked me to wait just one moment. brought back a garbage bag full of prepackaged portions of coffee they used to make coffee in flight.

I was flying back to Manchester from Athens using the Aegean Airline but it was the earliest flight. I didnt like what they had as a breakfast option so i waited for them to bring out a snack which was a packaged cake slice. I kindly asked if i could have a second one and the lady gave me two. It made me smile!

1991 flew OS, asked if I could get to meet the pilots, half into flight got taken to the cockpit, sat in the left seat, then was invited to sit in the cockpit jump seat for landing. Mad experience. The QANTAS 747 OJA that I was on is now a static display at HARS in Wollongong and recently went back to sit in it again.
The flight attendant gave my youngest a wing pin on her first flight last year. She was so excited.

This is so funny! My niece's husband is a pilot, and before he worked commercial he was in the military. I never go to air shows, but the year he was here in my state, I went to see him. I saw him do his first run, and then went to the tent where his plane was to buy him lunch and walk around a little bit and then let him get back into the air conditioning. put.
I took him to my seat so he could see where I was sitting on his second run, to wave. Geico had distributed fans to everyone with a gecko head as the fan part because it was so blisteringly hot that day, so I said I'd wave that once he saw where to look, so took him to where my chair was.
When we got back to where I was sitting, all of the people who were seated around me, who were there specifically because they liked his particular plane, all freaked out like I had a rockstar with me! I told my niece later some of the people were showing him footage that they had taken of his run and how his playing hovered and so on, and I said it in the tone that those people must have seemed really geeky. She said "no, actually, he probably really loved that." 😅😅

As an FA, most times when there is a house full flight, tend not to give out the whole cans just to make sure we get every single passenger. We always remember which passengers asked for the can and if we have extra then definitely we’ll give it out
Is it possible to get the can instead of the plastic cup? I try not to use plastic.
I used to enjoy flying, but after having kids I started getting anxiety about it (the thought of dying in a crash and leaving my kids fatherless would eat at me everytime I had a flight).
My best friend tells me he's getting married and I'm the best man. He's planned it for November.

My wife decided that Mexico was more important than my mental health, so I had 6 months of nightmares (on the rare occasions that I could actually sleep) ahead of me.
A couple of weeks before the wedding, this old guy at my worksite (Ralph) comes up to me and says "I hear you've been having some trouble. I used to be a commercial airline pilot, there's nothing to be worried about, I flew for decades."
I told him it was the idea that I might never see my kids again, and the lack of control if the situation went bad, that was getting into my head.
"If the plane experiences trouble and it looks like it's going down, there is something you can do." He said. He leans toward me and, in the most serious tone of voice, says:
"You can die like a man."...
"Ok... well, thanks Ralph, that was... helpful."
_SEVERE_ turbulance during the flight down, even the crew were worried, people were crying, I just sat there and waited for the plane to meet the ground one way or another. I felt totally calm.
-RIP Ralph (who did, in fact, die like a man).
If I find a nice flight attendants like you I'll do that.

It's not a Ryanair thing, it's overall aviation safety measure that people cannot get into the flightdeck during flight to avoid potential hijacking. We let pax get in when disembarking, next time during cruising tell the cc that once you land you'd like to see the fd and they'll let u in

I remember my first time ever flying alone. I was 19 and I had to fly 8 hours for my grandpa's funeral, and because of work I couldn't go on the same day as my parents. I was nervous and I think the flight attendant noticed because she was super sweet and checked on me few times during the flight. I also asked a few technical questions about the aircraft and she was really happy to explain everything I wanted to know! She made me feel so much better ❤

When I was 6 years old I was on an American Airlines flight and my parents got an upgrade to business class but I didn’t. I had to sit in economy on my own all by myself. The flight attendants were really nice and at the end of the flight they gave me a crew pin that said flight crew on it. I still have that pin.
So now you use that to sit in the crew seat?

I remember my first tour in airplane, the flight attendant gave us a tour all around the plane like some kind of VIP! Sir, I don't know who you are or even remember who you are, but I'm still glad to this day for what you did❤
That's sweet! My niece's husband is a pilot, and I think it's pretty standard to offer small kids on their first flights a tour and a pair of wings or whatever toy it is at the airline hands out. I'm so glad that it was a memorable experience for you!
when it comes to food, they are always generous to give another meal,on long hour flight and if you go their gallery, offer yourself as help or chitchat. i was amazed to know how their works is exhausting yet they are always smiling.

Flight attendants In the UK can opt to do the Immediate Life Support Course. This means they can do certain procedures such as inserting an airway device in the event of a person going into cardiac arrest
Yes and no they don't hold the same skills as a qualified emergency care assistant or emergency care technician though. All the ILS courses allow them to do is use the airways in order to actually use those skills they have to hold a minimum pre hospital emergency medicine framework scale grade c or higher qualification otherwise they don't have the skills to actually use them though.
Why would they insert something into your airway for a cardiac issue?
@@MDLC424 To protect the airway and to start oxygenation. If they haven’t enough oxygen saturations their brain is cooked.
@@MDLC424 if you're in cardiac arrest, you are dead. A secure airway permits adequate ventilation (pushing air in your lungs). Per ACLS guidelines you're not required to intubate, but a laryngeal mask can be of great help

Let me tell you my Emirates experience, air stewardess missed my meal, i reminded her politely, she turn a deaf ear. I reminded her again, she rudely push the meal in front of me. Probably I am an Asian, idk. I flew UK-MSia twice, both bad experience.
I don't dare to ask any additional extra. I just want basic service.
@isaacchan7689 I fly with Emirates often and I have to say that the DXB to M’sia route always has the worst flight attendants. Idk why… Always got a chip on their shoulder, esp the younger female ones. Older ones normally quite chill, but they rarely serve economy.
But the London and Dubai route, I’ve met really nice Emirates flight attendants (as recently as 2 weeks ago).

I notice this too, the most accomdating flights were always the ones staffed by caucasians flight attendants i.e middle eastern, turkish etc, the asian ones tend to either struggle with english or seem overly stressed or bothered, lots of the ladies were also too short to really help with the bags, it might be a training thing since in Asia, becoming a flight attendant isn't really a glamourous career @@isaacchan7689

When I was a kid flying Southwest Airlines, the stewardesses called me to the front, had me answer some trivia questions on the loud speaker, and gave me a deck of Southwest playing cards and a pin. Those were the days.

I am a 6 foot guy weighing 95kg, so pretty big. I absolutely hate it when flight attendants treat me like a child and give me a tiny plastic glass of Coke half full of foam when i ask for a CAN OF COKE. Its just embarrassing asking for the whole can even after asking for a can of coke the first time. Despite paying thousands on a ticket.

I use to work in an airline kitchen that preps the food, loads and unloads the food carts used on flights. It's absolutely true that unconsumed foods get thrown out. Please feel encouraged to ask for seconds! Airlines really should donate meals to homeless outreach programs.

I did know about the can actually. One time I wasn't feeling well and asked for ginger ale. After the flight attendant poured me a cup she offered me the rest of the can. Changed my world.

2.Tug jobs wouldn't be that bad to pass time faster, included in the ticket price, of course
