It's almost as if Hertz is trying to fill out some sort of bingo card! Reported stolen, check. Fuel charge for an electric vehicle, check. Not accept a Puerto Rico driver's license because they don't realize that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, check. And now charge for unlimited mileage!
Also: Refuse to accept a driver's license issued by the Federal Government of these United States after accepting a reservation made ON FEDERAL property. That happened to me in 1988.
Add hiring people over the phone and not telling them where they were hired to work. And offering benefits to employees that they are not given access to. (These benefits and bonuses come with the job but you need to have a Hertz email to access them. They don't give emails to their drivers, repairmen or other processing jobs).
Thank you, Steve for always keeping politics out of the show. I'm definitely a massive consumer of political news, but when I need a break, you are always there for me. You remind me of a happier version of my father. Love your show, love what you do. As a side note, your years in radio have made you one of the best UA-camrs I watch. You know how to entertain an audience with just your voice. Thank you for being my sanctuary.❤
It sounds like Hertz corporate is all out of bad ideas so they have franchisees working on some too. They should change their customer service motto to: At Hertz, we're not happy until you're not happy! They don't need a bad economy to put them out of business, it sounds like they're doing a great job all by themselves.
The reason sometimes companies dig their heels in, is because some employee thinks he’s protecting the company when really what he’s doing is hurting the companies reputation.
Steve, you mentioned Enterprise and I got a feel good story to tell all. I. rented a vehicle from them last winter after getting involved in a winter collision with my vehicle. I had their vehicle for a couple weeks but three days in I noticed the fog light had been damaged and I assumed I just was unlucky with an errant stone on the road. I did the right thing and purchased a replacement part and installed it myself to save shop labor. When I returned the vehicle I informed them of the repair and the agent told me that it was noted in their inspection report that it was damaged on a prior rental. They gave me a free future long weekend rental (4 days) as a way to thank me. The part only cost me $50.00 and one hour of my labour in -30 weather conditions. Cheers from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
When I was in the industry, I did once ask a potential customer to leave. He wasn’t qualified to rent & tried to bully me into giving him a nice shiny new car, and I tried to find a way, but he couldn’t meet me half way. He insisted, I asked him to leave, he refused, asked if I was going to try to remove him. I told him no, but the local PD would if he chose not to leave. That’s the only time. I used to get sent out to recover cars from non-paying renters, and it was exciting and terrifying.
I hate that so bad when I’m trying to help a customer, doing something I probably technically shouldn’t be doing, sticking my arm (and neck) out to try and reach them halfway and they refuse to even raise their arm let alone meet me halfway. Like dude. I’m trying to help you. I know life can be hard and unfair and I’m trying to help ease that a little in the small way I can but you aren’t even willing to budge to help yourself when I’m putting myself out there for you? Life can be so cruel to those that don’t deserve it and those who have done all they can to try and help themselves. Life doesn’t care how much effort someone puts in. But sometimes you see people who seem to have done it to themselves. Who expect everyone to do the heavy lifting to get them out of a situation without doing anything for themselves (let alone others). They are a drain on everyone around them.
Most of us who work with the public have had to deal with that guy (or that woman) at some point. I think we can agree this situation is different- the agent was the one being unreasonable, accusatory and threatening.
I love watching your videos it's like talking to a friend rather than a lawyer, I wish I had known you when I lived in Michigan. You are so upbeat and positive! 😎
I had a rental from Hertz once. The thing had a tick in the windshield, and I pointed it out and it was marked as such on my sheet prior to leaving the lot, luckily. Yeah, they tried to get money from the issue until I pointed out that it was already there. Still had to take my sheet to them to prove it, so they didn't charge my CC.
Hertz: Customer satisfaction is our top priority. All of us: Why does it HERTZ so much to satisfy your customers? BTW, I love Heather's little jokes at the end. Thank you Heather.
I rent cars often while on business . I always take a video in the parking lot while the rental agent is present carefully detailing any existing damage to the rental car. Be sure to carefully check the bodywork and rims for dents and scratches. Check the interior for any rips or stains. Also make sure the spare tire and jack is present in the trunk. Notate any scratches or chips in the rental agreement in the presence of the rental agent no matter how small the scratches are. Good luck!
I rented from Hertz in the Middle East - I was doing exactly this before signing out the car. It was practically new but showing some tiny car park rashes. when I pointed out a small chip/dent the agent hadn’t captured quite to my satisfaction, he nodded, and before handing the form to me to sign for quickly popped about fifty dots all over the car diagram saying, “please, you don’t worry now, sir.” I used that exact branch every time I could.
I’ve never been to into hertz , but there is an add for their competitor screening here in AU that their end of add quote says DONT RENT TILL IT HERTZ !!
It sounds to me as if the franchisee's employee was keeping to Hertz's "standards of conduct" by having an innocent customer arrested or threatened with arrest.
seems like Hertz needs to clarify the terms of the contract because unlimited means exactly that, unlimited. There is no other meaning of unlimited other than unlimited. This means "without limits". By the way I think that the guy they threatened to arrest should sue for mental stress and damages. Imagine the stress this poor guy must have had.
Apology or not I would "never" use Hertz, damage has been done, and would research other rental businesses before using them. One thing I've learned from this fiasco is that to resolve issues one needs to go to the media to get matters resolved.
there was a time when Hertz was my go-to. I was a #1 Club Gold member for over 20 years. Last 10 years or so, and I'd rather take the bus or walk than rent from Hertz.
Example of why I quit renting from Hertz over 5 years ago. The way this employee treated this customer is indictive of my last 2 inquiries with their franchisees .
The only time i rented a vehicle was Enterprise. No issues. I'm betting Hertz lawyers are busy changing the contract language on Unlimited Mileage as we speak.
That is likely why we got the resolution and apology. They listened to their lawyer this time. Even if they did it because waving a $10k bill is cheaper then a court case.
All the Hertz news stories on this channel have continuously confirmed my position given my own experiences with Hertz to Never rent from them ever again.
WOW! I'm glad someone remembered that film! Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry! I went see it back then, and very entertaining it was, with a cruel and bittersweet ending!
I have rented a tesla from hertz to drive for Uber. The contract was for Unlimited* miles and probably drove 70 hours a week for a month. They didnt complain about the miles that time.
You didn't use anywhere near the milage that this guy did my man. You weren't driving for 100% of that 70 hours, and you were likely going at an average speed of 40-45MPH meaning the max milage you could have gotten even if you DID drive 100% of that 70 hours a week is 12,600 miles. Which is only if you were moving at 45MPH for 70 hours a week every week no stopping.
@shawnpitman876 i was saying that it was possible to do those miles as an uber driver. Some uber drivers will drive 12 hours a day, which at an average of 50mph would be around 18k miles in a month. If you had a husband/wife taking turns, you could double that mileage to 30k miles.
I'm thinking that may be the scenario. Given it's 25,000 miles, I assume a rounded number and not the real number. I drive a lot for work and including weekends this guy is 833 miles a day. 8 hours a day I can hit about 730-780 maybe. So this guy was certainly doing unusual use probably site work I suppose like me.
I had a guy do 40k in 6 months and tried to claim life time warranty on his brakes. Warranty clearly stated commercial vehicle's exclude, he was a courier.
I will say, with Enterprise, if something is wrong and it is obvious or easily proven, then they will find the customer at fault, but if there is any doubt or question about something, they will always find in the customer's favor just to avoid the bad publicity.
I was waiting for the Hertz Donut joke. The kids in the neighborhood where I grew up had some dumb joke where one kid would ask another if he wanted a donut. The 2nd kid would say yes, and the first kid would punch him in the arm pretty hard, saying it's a "hurts don't it?" Which in our local Michigan accent sounds like "Hertz donut."
Marshall Michigan is also the hometown of Sam Hill. A Michigan Congressman who was so legendary for his swearing ability that his very name became a swear word. If you go by the hospital there is a sign where his house was and another one out by the Denneys where the road is named after him.

I've heard the New Jersey left turn referred to as the New Jersey Jughandle. It's a small ramp off the right side, that hits the cross street a short distance away from the main route. It's almost like one of the standard interchange types, but without flyovers.
Their slogan should be “Renting from us always Hertz”
Hertz: "You must be desperate and a masochist to want to rent from us"
Free donut with every rental
"Hertz hurts"
😅🤣😂😍
Don't they have a ficticious company "Hertz-Uranus" at the Simpsons?
Hertz is a frequent contributor to my channel! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
You took the words out of my fingers 😂😂😂😂😂
Essentially "Hertz is literally paying my bills"
If Hertz keeps doing business like this they'll put themselves out of business.
😆
Hertz not sorry just sorry that they’re getting exposed.
“We are so sorry to be caught”
Basically
“We are so sorry our stock just dropped like a rock. Again.”
Yes, it’s a good thing that it was recorded. It may have gone differently if it wasn’t recorded.
Hertz should issue a blanket apology every day just in case.
Nah, every customer gets a Laminated Hertz apology to wear on a chain around their neck.
Forver.
Hertz hopefully at least pays their HR staff top pay and proper benefits for managing this crapstorm. But I'm skeptical.
Check a dictionary 😂
That's my strategy with my wife.
No matter how many times Hertz apologizes, I will absolutely NEVER rent from Hertz or any other company under their flag. Never... Ever....
Same here.
I’ve been chased away
Luckily for them it's as PT Barnum said:"There's one born every minute ".
I am 70, I have never rented from Hertz.
Was it a rental buss that the franchisee was thrown under?
It's almost as if Hertz is trying to fill out some sort of bingo card!
Reported stolen, check.
Fuel charge for an electric vehicle, check.
Not accept a Puerto Rico driver's license because they don't realize that Puerto Rico is part of the United States, check.
And now charge for unlimited mileage!
I think you're missing a few. Maybe, others will add to the list.
@michaelmoorrees3585 Steve should maintain a sign that says "__ days since last Hertz mistake."
add ...Charge for damage to a car you did not rent, and fake paperwork you acknowledged the damage.
Also: Refuse to accept a driver's license issued by the Federal Government of these United States after accepting a reservation made ON FEDERAL property. That happened to me in 1988.

If you don’t wanna go to jail don’t rent from hertz
And don't drive sober in Tennessee.
@@djburris1961Why did you have to bring Tennessee into this?
@@jasonbourne1596 Floridian here, I'm just glad someone picked on someone besides us for once🙂. BTW-love Tennessee!
I believe they had someone arrested who never once rented from Hertz.
@@jasonbourne1596 because its very easy to catch a DUI in that state even if you dont drink
Hertz is the gift that keeps on giving. Sometimes it gives you views, but mostly it just hertz.
Give till it Hertz.
Hertz is loved by the legal community. Lots of business brought in, to defend their customers.😂
"Customer Satisfaction . . . " Hertz: "As our customer, were you satisfied with you stay in the county lock up?"
I would NEVER rent anything from Hertz, never ever!!!
And still they probably will find a way to charge you for something.
Don’t ever buy an RV or rent from Hertz. Main take aways I’ve gotten from watching this channel.👍

U need a "hertz did it again" wall light 😂
Oh, like the "donuts are fresh" light at Krispy Kreme. And probably about the same frequency.
It sounds like Hertz corporate is all out of bad ideas so they have franchisees working on some too. Their headquarters are near me. I've spoken with people who've worked there and said it was a terrible place to work.
They missed a great opportunity for a fantastic advertisement. Our rental cars are so good that they can go 25,000 miles a month without a problem.
The reason sometimes companies dig their heels in, is because some employee thinks he’s protecting the company when really what he’s doing is hurting the companies reputation.

Hertz is the gift that keeps on hurting.
You should send Hertz a thank you letter, give them a coupon for unlimited viewing...
I'm not sure if they dare, their ISP might treat their business 'unlimited' connection the same way they treat miles 😆
Hertz HR needs to start using your videos for training.
Their HR has some additional problems they should fix first.
Hertz should change their name to "Schmerz," the German word for "Pain."
"Hurts" would probably be easier, although not as interesting
Genau.
How about the German word, "Scheiße" = pxxp!
How about "Schwein" = pig in German ?
Weird that it kind of lines up with Hurts
Hertz apologized and gave him a coupon for a free weekend rental at Avis.
When I got out of University, I applied to Hertz and had one interview and we didn’t like each other. Went to work for the competition.
Does that competitor company still exist?
I’ve never rented from Hertz, and after following your stories for a year, I never will. You can count on that, lol! 🤣
I like how you couldn't say "Customer satisfaction is our top priority at Hertz" while keeping a straight face.

Customer Service Rule #1: Don't piss them off in the first place!
"Customer satisfaction is a top priority at Hertz". The laughter really sez it all.
If the pain is real, it must be Hertz.
Hertz, the felony stop is free.
Hertz, we stand by our name.
Steve, THE best addition to your wall behind you would be a counter: "X days since the last Hertz F-UP"
That wall is awful blank.
Pretty sure it would reset about every 4-9 days season pending.
Wow! Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry! Now THAT's a reference from ancient history!
I wanna see Hertz's CEO do an interview with Steve Lehto. I know they'd never agree but I'd love to see that.

"We have decided to honour the contract." Well gosh that is really generous. Imagine thinking that saying this is a positive
Or even an apology.
You know that particular apology had to hert..
Not really: listen carefully, there was no apology.
Hertz apologizes, but do they plan on changing their ways, or is renting from them a risk to being arrested still?

If you tell the renter they must change the oil at 3000 miles, it will just give them ideas! Is what hertz might this
Thank you Hertz for all the material for Steve. 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
"We are going to honor the contract, after our lawyers told us the customer is in the right and we have no case"....
The best thing Hertz ever did was when the had the "Rent a Racer" program... But didn't know it.
It sounds to me as if the franchisee's employee was keeping to Hertz's "standards of conduct" by having an innocent customer arrested or threatened with arrest.
Abbott: "No its Hertz, U-Drive" Costello: "Well if it hurts, you drive"
